EXHIBITION STATEMENT

Elements

Encompassing the spectrum of art from non-objective to abstract clear up to hyper realism, the elements of design are the foundational building blocks of every work of art. The elements of art are the root of every composition affecting the visual impact each piece of work has regardless of skill, taste, or style. The VSU Department of Art & Design foundation area classes introduce the elements and principles of design at the beginning of every art major's academic journey. This year's theme organizes the work according to the most prominent element in each work of art. The elements are: line, shape, form, value, texture, color, space, and time. Acknowledging that any design element is rarely used or appears by itself in a composition, we present these sequentially within the exhibition and on the poster as the creation of a single yellow sponge. Regardless of the foundation class, each artwork is composed with more than just one element. The overlap becomes more apparent the more time spent engaged in this exhibition. Enjoy the successes of this year's Art & Design foundation classes while engaging in activity stations mixed into the exhibit. They are designed to introduce, engage, and include viewers as part of this year's exploration and creative play.
