Resident Assistants (RA) are paraprofessionals who live in the Residence Halls and build community in order to provide safety and security for the residents of the halls. By providing a peer to peer resource relationship, it is the responsibility of the RA to connect with students to ensure their academic and personal success during their stay in the Residence Halls.
The Graduate Residence Hall Director (RHD) is a Graduate Assistantship where Professionals in pursuit of a Master’s degree in Higher Education Leadership, Marriage Family Therapy, Social Work, or Psychology and Counseling or related degree programs live-in our Residence Hall. These live in professionals supervise student staff (4-15 RAs, 10 Front Desk Workers, Office Manager, etc.), oversee hall community of 200+ residents, serve on departmental committees, and facilitate community building across their residential Community.
Front Desk Worker
The Front Desk Worker (FDW) is assigned to a residence hall front desk and is responsible for working closely with other Front Desk Workers, Resident Assistants and the Residence Hall Director in developing and maintaining and safe and secure atmosphere in the residence halls. As an employee of the Office of Housing and Residence Life and Valdosta State University, each Front Desk Worker will assist in the development of a safe environment that meets the needs of a positive Residence Life program. The responsibilities listed will be carried out under the supervision of the Residence Hall Director and the Housing Supervisors of Housing and Residence Life.
Housing Engagement Action Response Team (Heart)
To provide a 24/7 service response team, the HEART program is made up of two on call teams, Day and Night. This specific posting is for our NIGHT team. Candidates applying for this position will be available to fulfill 19 hours a week at $7.25/hr. between 8:00PM-8:00AM Monday- Friday and weekends. HEART members frequently respond to incidents in the Residence Halls pertaining to lockouts, noise complaints and violations to the Housing and Residence Life Guidelines for Community Living.
Resource Room Assistant
The Resource Room is a creative space where all Housing Events, Door decorations, bulletin boards, and general craft needs are met. Our Resource Room Assistants student staff who are creative, innovative, and (of course) resourceful. It is supervised by two (2) Managers who provide direction and insight about the comings and goings of the space. The Resource Room is Open on in the Fall and Spring Semesters.
The Department of Housing and Residence Life employs approximately 3 to 4 Housing Ambassadors who are responsible for tours of housing facilities, and special events for marketing on-campus housing. Candidates for the Matchmaker position should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge or willingness to learn about VSU and the Department of Housing and Residence Life, and are able to effectively and positively represent the on-campus living experience. Candidates who are currently living on-campus or who have lived on-campus are preferred. Typically, new Housing Ambassadors are hired each summer as needed.
Housing Facilities Assistant works through the summer and into opening on preparing the Residence Halls after students vacate. Housing Facilities Assistants should be willing to lift and move furniture, assist with event set up and break down within the residence halls, clean, paint and repair rooms where necessary. All appointments will last through the summer and will be renewed for the fall based upon availability and budget.
