Fall 2021 Housing Information

Hello Blazer Nation.

Hello Students and Parents,

We originally were scheduled to release timeslots on March 4th and then they would take place on March 8th, 9th, 18th, and 19th.  We are going to adjust our timeline just a little bit, but in the end, we will be done sooner than originally planned.

The process for the selection of RAs is still underway and those students will be notified later this week.  We hire 70 students every year to serve in the RA role and those bed spaces are outside of our room selection process.  That is 70 students we can pull out of our room selection process, which means 70 more students we can let in to select a space.

Finally, we have heard the feedback that students are not sure of what their options would be if they did not get to select a space to return to campus next year.  Therefore, the Housing Office is working on a 1st of its kind Off-Campus Housing Fair to take place in the next couple of weeks.  Please watch for more information on that coming soon. All that being said, please see below for the new timeline.  Please note, this change does not affect a student’s spot in line to select a space.

Timeslots emailed out                                    Friday, March 5th

Dates of selection                                            Thursday, March 11th and Friday, March 12th

If there are spaces that went unselected, we will send out timeslots to students on the waitlist on Wednesday, March 17th with selection on Friday, March 19th. With this modified timeline, we will finish the room selection process on March 12th and then begin working on the waitlist, whereas before we were not finishing selection until the 19th

Another email will follow later this week with instructions on how to select a space during an assigned timeslot.  Please note that since housing for returning students is limited, any returning student with a housing assignment for Fall 2021 but not enrolled as a full-time student by April 16th will have their housing assignment removed and their contract canceled.  If they still wish to live on campus, they will need to go through the waitlist process.  We will send out reminder emails concerning class load when registration closes on April 2nd

Thank you,

The time for Housing Selection for students who are currently living on campus to return for Fall 2021 is finally here.  If you are planning on returning to on-campus housing, please read carefully and act quickly.  There is a limited number of spaces available for returning students this year and students will only be able to choose from Centennial and Hopper Halls.

  • A 4-person apartment in Centennial Hall is $3,908 per semester and a 2-person apartment is $4,052 per semester.  Please note that the Centennial Hall contract is 50-weeks and includes the cost for Summer.
  • A semi-private suite in Hopper Hall (2 students in each bedroom, 4 students in the suite) is $2,713 per semester and a private suite (1 student in each bedroom, 2 students in the suite) is $2,878 per semester.
  • Please note these prices are from the 2020-2021 academic year and the prices for 2021-2022 have not been finalized.

The application will open in the Housing Portal on Tuesday, February 23rd at 1 pm and will close on Monday, March 1st at 5pm.  Students will not need to pay an application fee or housing deposit again during this process as long as they currently live on campus.  This is ONLY an application process and students will not select their housing assignment during this time frame.  This does NOT lock a student into a housing contract.

ROOMMATE GROUPS.  This is a new part of our housing application process.  Students will need to identify groups of students they wish to live with, in either groups of 2 or 4.  A student can only request another student with an application on file for the same process.  For example, Joe and Dave want to be roommates.  Joe is working on his housing application but Dave has not submitted one yet.  Joe will not be able to request Dave.  Once Dave does his application, he can request to be in a roommate group with Joe and it will send a notification to Joe.  Joe then accepts Dave’s request and they are in a roommate group together.  Dave is the designated Group Leader as the student who created the group.  Dave can also invite Rick and Bob to be in the roommate group and once they accept, they can be a verified group of 4.  Roommate Groups will select first to ensure we can get requested roommates together, students that are not in a roommate group will select last.

On March 4th, students will receive an email with steps on how to select a space and their assigned timeslot.  If a student goes through the selection process and signs a contract, they ARE locked into the contract for the academic year.  We will only give out the number of timeslots that we have spaces available for.  If a student does not receive a timeslot, they will be placed on to a waitlist in the order in which they applied.  Not every student who is assigned a timeslot picks a space and any unclaimed spaces will then be offered to students on the waitlist.

Timeslots will be for March 8th, 9th, 18th, or 19th.  The entire room selection process will close on March 22nd.  If a student misses their timeslot, they will be placed on the waitlist and contacted if a space becomes available.

If students are interested in the ASL community, or a returning Honors student wanting to remain in the Honor’s community, they will need to communicate to Mark McNalley at mpmcnalley@valdosta.edu that they are interested.  The deadline to contact Mark to sign up for one of these communities Friday, February 26th at 12pm. If you have any questions concerning returning student housing selection, please contact the Housing Office at housing@valdosta.edu or by calling us at 229-333-5920.
