Wasieleski, Department of Psychology, Counseling, and Family TherapyDespite ample media attention directed toward the transgender community, scarce research exists regarding others attitudes toward diverse expressions of gender identity. Our purpose was to develop a more efficient global assessment of attitudes toward those exploring gender identity matters. An item pool consisting of 73-statements was written to reflect underlying affective, behavioral, and cognitive components of attitudes toward transgender identity.Subjects (N = 451) responded to each item on a 7-point rating scale. The resulting factor analysis revealed an underlying unidimensional factor accounting for 42.52% of the variance. After examining the factor loadings, item-to-total relationships, and descriptive statistics, 13 items were selected for inclusion in the scale. The reliability (internal consistency) of the scale was .95 with a coefficient of variation of .37.The psychometric properties of the attitude assessment demonstrate favorable characteristics.Further research investigating the construct validity of the scale is warranted.Do Faculty Use Learning Styles in College Instruction?Anthony Oliveira, Morgan Allen, Junyong Min, and Kateri Eichler, Department of Psychology, Counseling, and Family Therapy Faculty Sponsor: Dr. Charles R. Talor, Department of Psychology, Counseling, and Family Therapy One approach to teaching endorses using a learning styles strategy by faculty in their college instruction. However, research is conflicted as to the types of learning styles, and whether learning styles exist at all. The purpose of this study was to examine in a small set of faculty at Valdosta State University if there was a consensus on using learning styles in their teaching and if so, which learning styles do most faculty attempt to address in their teaching. Thus, offering insight on possible strategies that college faculty may use in their approaches to teaching. 75'
