Mary practices Roman Catholicism in Italy and in the U.S. She has been in this country for 22 years. Sometimes it is hard to communicate with her English because of her strong Italian accent. She was educated by the nuns in Italy. Mar and her children enjoy particularly Americanized holidays like Thanksgiving when they have pasta andturkey, and sea food on Christmas Eve with prime rib on Christmas Day. She does not eatout because she enjoys cooking for her children and grandchildren. She is a very lovely lady with many stories to share. Z was born and raised in Dakar, Senegal from a Muslim family of Syrian heritage. When he turned 18, he became intrigued with the U.S. regarding its freedom and opportunity. After a few hops on a boat for a hard journey over the ocean, Z landed in Newark. He got lost on the street when he looked for food and shelter without knowing any English. He soon learned English accompanying his knowledge in French, Arabic, Greek and Wolof. Now he can master these languages very well. Z and his wife struggled to face racism in their daily life because of their appearance. He has been in the US for 50 years, surviving in this country and becoming successful with his children.44'
