In a world of malicious deceit, biased perception and weighted information, developing media literacy has become increasingly critical to maintaining social stability. Politicized news outlets, particularly via social media, heavily influence public opinion through the use of mal-information and disinformation in all mediums. Regardless of intent, this causes political, scientific and social polarization that paralyzes the political process. Being media literate gives the power back to citizens to discern factual information. This poster presentation, along with an interactive demonstration, will provide concrete steps on how to increase media literacy, identify false or slanted information, as well as form opinions independent of outside influence.HistorySultan Mohammed V and the Moroccan HolocaustLogan Mabey, Department of History Faculty Sponsor: Dr. John Dunn, Department of History France surrendered to Germany in June 1940. This created the Vichy State, which was closely connected to the Nazi regime. Morocco, a protectorate of France, was forced to interact with Vichy officials, who supported Germanys anti-Semitic laws that were quickly leading towards the Holocaust. Moroccos Sultan Mohammed V opposed these efforts, and used his religious and political authority to create a buffer between Moroccan Jews and Vichy desires to implement Nazi policy. This paper highlights instances where the Sultan met with Vichy officials, encouraged Moroccan Jews, and took a public stand on behalf of his subjects. 45'
