b'Analytic Study of Gender in Video Games: past, present, & future Ray Hannah, Department of Mass MediaFaculty Sponsor: Dr. Cox, Department of Mass MediaThis analysis of gender as it is represented in video games explores the past, present, and future of the industry and how gender roles are used to manipulate the consumer. Video games play a key role in enforcing and encouraging the misrepresentations of gender, and looking even deeper, the impact of these hypersexualized men and women characters runs deep as children who play the games develop and grow along with them. As time progresses, these worn-out representations continue to encroach on the minds of children and society in its entirety. Will this endless trend continue to ramp up the effects already in place, or will game developers see the greater issues at hand and make a stride in the right direction? The Agricultural Industry & the Standard American Diet in the MediaZhanee Anderson, Department of Mass MediaFaculty Sponsor: Dr. Nicole Cox, Department of Mass MediaThis paper offers a look into the issues of the agricultural industry and its misrepresentation in the media. The analysis covers the basic foundations of media research and connects them to industrial farming, advertising, and non-representation of unethical practices. The research calls in question the reality of the standard American diet and how the media pushes the agenda of factory farms and unhealthy foods. The media has built frames, stereotypes, and schemas that propel the everyday choices that the consumer makes. These frames, stereotypes, and schemas have been planted and reinforced by advertisements and nonrepresentation of what goes on in the industrial farming industry. The media inadvertently supports hegemonic practices over animals and minority groups. Consumers claim they want food that is ethically and humanely produced, but the question here is; would consumers continue to buy the same products if they understood the conditions in which they were produced?35'
