Horton, Department of Economics and FinanceFaculty Sponsor: Dr. Attila Cseh, Department of Economics and FinanceThis paper analyzes former Secretary of State Hillary Clintons electoral performance in Georgia in the 2016 Presidential General Election across the state of Georgia. This paper examines the history of the Southern Strategy employed by Republican candidates and its effects on widening the gap between whites and African-Americans in southern states such as Georgia and their resulting domination of elections there. The analysis looks at various demographic and economic factors that predict Clintons vote totals across Georgias 159 counties. These variables include the percentage aged 65 and up, percentage with a college degree, percentage of white population, the unemployment rate, the poverty rate, and median household income. The preliminary results of the econometric analysis show that all variables but the percentage aged 65 and up are statistically significant at the 5% level of significance.Predictors of Workout BehaviorAugust Huckleberry, Department of Economics and FinanceFaculty Sponsor: Dr. Attila Cseh, Department of Economics and FinanceI propose to investigate how various demographic and socioeconomic variables impacts individuals exercise habits. I will use statistical and econometric models to test several hypotheses using a dataset aimed at learning more about the lives of adults who live in Texas, using the 2004 Survey of Texas Adults. Data was collected by telephone surveying Texas adults. Specifically, I will be looking at the impact of the following variables: gender, race, marital status, age, income, education, smoker status, alcohol use, household size, hours worked, etc18'
