Susan Jones, Plant Services
The Mass Media Department is gearing up to host their annual South Georgia Film Festival event on the weekend of March 4th. I thought I had put in a work ticket to get the sprinkler system turned off the night before and pest spraying. However, I forgot. I emailed Susan and she promptly responded letting me know that she could get it taken care of, even suggesting that we get trash cans placed around the area. She is always helpful and prompt in her responses and does her due diligence in getting the job done. Thank you again, Susan, for helping me with the work tickets - it is truly appreciated.
Doug Jordan, IT
Our DVD player for the V-State Experience quit working and we had to use new software to make sure our reception was successful. Doug was phenomenal and called me on the way to my event to tell me what equipment I needed to buy as well as how to operate it once I got there. Doug even sent me detailed instructions to use as a reference when I was setting everything up. He and his colleagues have always been extremely supportive of our recruitment efforts. We would not be able to accomplish our goals without people like Doug.
Gary Miller, IT
In January, we were notified by Mediacom of a possible security issue with the internet in the Fulbright house. I called the Help Desk for advice and was put in contact with Gary Miller. Gary contacted me immediately and investigated the situation. He advised that the house needed to be connected to the campus internet and immediately had Kanan Simpson and Alfred Reed start work on the project. Thanks to Gary, the project was completed by the IT team in one week. Many thanks to all three employees!
December Storey, Palms Dining
December Storey went above and beyond to help me with ensuring that a student's lunch needs were getting met. She demonstrated flexibility and compassion. The student and I were so grateful for her help and we would like her to know that her service did not go unnoticed. Thank you!
Jude Jerome, Palms Dining
Chef Jerome needs to be recognized for his incredible skill in creating the most delicious vegan food in all of Valdosta. There is always a variety of food from all cultures which is not easy to do. The seasoning is always perfect. He is also so thoughtful in walking around the dining hall and asking for feedback on the food and ensuring it is meeting our needs. That level of care goes above and beyond, and many faculty and staff have noticed. I am so grateful that he cares so much about serving delicious vegan food. Thank you!
Ethan Williams, GOML
Ethan Williams was instrumental in designing the website for a new Latinx and Indigenous club. He demonstrated great flexibility, patience, and promptness throughout. He communicated frequently with the team, responded well to feedback, and made sure everything was correct and to our liking. He designed an incredible website very quickly and was easy to collaborate with. Thank you for all your hard work!
Britt-Marie Piper, COHNEX Advising Center
I am a senior Spanish Major and my husband is a senior French major. Ms. Piper has been helping both of us finalize our classes to be able to graduate on time. We both are transfer students to VSU; therefore, our situation requires extra effort to make sure that all of the requirements are met. Ms. Piper has taken on the position of our personal advocate. Over the past few weeks, she has quickly answered all of our questions and has come up with ideas of classes that would better streamline our academic track. We are so grateful that she would put so much effort into our individual academic plan to help us graduate. She has been a tremendous help. Although she serves several students, Ms. Piper treats us as if we are the only ones! The personal care she puts into her students can definitely be seen and we are extremely grateful!
Michele Blankenship, School of Nursing
Dr. Blankenship recently volunteered to help out with the junior nursing students' skills check-off. She went above and beyond to ensure that each student in her group received a fair evaluation of their performance and effective feedback. She says that her focus is always on learning, and that is very evident in her actions with students. Thank you so much!
Mariya Chakir, Modern & Classical Languages
I had the pleasure of attending a meeting of the French club hosted by Ms. Chakir. She arranged for a local restaurant to prepare French cuisine for the students. During the event, they practiced speaking French and listened to French music. Ms. Chakir went above and beyond to engage with the students and teach them not only French culture but also the importance of a healthy diet and self-care. You can tell she truly cares for her students.
Carlotta Braswell, Academic Affairs
I was new to the faculty grant proposal request process, and Carlotta provided exceptional customer service and patience. She properly guided me through the process and went above and beyond to help ensure I completed the steps correctly. Thank you so much!
Jeremy Hankinson, Library
During spring break, I came into the library building with my arms full, carrying a tote bag full of books and work materials. My office is on the fourth floor of the library, and the elevators were shut down because of the alarm and systems testing. Jeremy was in the lobby and immediately offered to carry all my books up the four flights of stairs for me! This is just the most recent indicator of his collegial and collaborative approach to his work. Jeremy is always available to help with issues and challenges that are outside of the scope of his job. He always does so with a cheerful response and a good problem-solving approach to whatever is going on. VSU and Odum Library are lucky to have Jeremy working here.
Britt-Marie Piper, COHNEX Advising Center
During our meeting, she complimented a photo that she saw on my wall and seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say. We got to speak about our mutual love for musicals. The actual advising portion was great, too. It was, overall, a great experience.

Maggie is amazing. She goes above and beyond routinely, especially with a recent special event in the CoA, The Count Basie Orchestra Performance. She basically does it all: ticket sales, event planning, coordinating food, catering, promoting, designing posters, mailings, and corporate sponsorships. She does it all with an incredibly positive attitude. This event was fantastic and she made it seem effortless. Thanks, Maggie, you helped make this event awesome!

Being an international student is very tough, but not when you meet caring and loving people like Dr. Acosta. When I first came to VSU, I had no idea of online learning, and I did not even know where to find classes on Blazeview. She was always ready to help me. I am really grateful to her.
Laura Wright, Odum Library
The English department held a book binge as part of our celebration of "All Things English Major." The reference staff allowed us to store about 400 books in the days ahead that we gave away as part of our event. Special thanks goes to Dr. Laura Wright, the Reference & Lending Services Director, for helping me with the arrangements, and to Amanda Broyles, the Library Technical Assistant, who helped retrieve the (many) necessary carts and organize the event.
