Megan Sutliff, Admissions

Megan went out of her way to help a client on the phone with their application. She is always available to help members of the Solutions Center with any issues we have.

Crystal Miller, Odum Library

I was having some trouble with the ILL system, and Crystal walked through the issue with me and offered to solve it for me without fighting the system. Thank you!

Patrick McElwain, Registrar

Patrick is absolutely amazing. No matter how busy he is, he makes time to respond to your emails quickly and assist you in any way that he can. I have really appreciated all the assistance Patrick has given to me over the past couple of years with scheduling. THANK YOU! SS

Kenneth Ott, Adult & Career Education

I am the Department Head of ACED.  Due to illness, we were without staff during the first three days of the semester.  We had many students with questions and needing assistance with registration.  I did my best to meet the needs of our students in a prompt manner, but Dr. Kenny Ott recognized that I needed assistance and offered to help. Dr. Ott answered the phone and assisted students with advisement in our office for the day.  Dr. Ott demonstrates daily an unwavering commitment to our students.  But, on this day he truly exemplified the best of all of us.  Thank you Dr. Ott!

Attila Cseh, Economics & Finance

I needed some guidance and feedback on a statistical model I am using for my dissertation and Dr. Cseh volunteered to assist me in analyzing my data and results. He did not receive any benefit from this assistance but was willing to meet with me multiple times and converse through email. He was even interested in reading articles on my topic, because he was not very familiar with my field, so that we could be sure I was on the right track. I appreciate his valuable guidance and feedback immensely!

Nicole Turley, Student Services

I was trying to assist a student in finding food, and I referred him to our Blazer Pantry. Niki Turley is the Director of Student Leadership and she provides oversight to the Blazer Pantry. Not only did she assist him with finding food, but she provided him with 2 Wal-Mart Gift Cards. I was amazed by this act of care and concern.

Suzanne Smith, IT

Faculty members and unfortunately students were flummoxed when offering class presentations with the new computer configuration of split screens.  We watched disheartened last semester as our class presentation time expanded exponentially as faculty and then students struggled with overcoming the split screen issue.  I want to thank our HSBA IT intern who went to great lengths to not leave the classroom until faculty was satisfied with a solution.  Knowing HSBA other classrooms face the same issue she even went to a second room to apply the fix for a faculty member.  Talk about dedication to excellence to her job!

Ellis Heath, Economics & Finances

Ellis is very devoted to his students and on a daily basis makes himself available to assist them. One of his students had changes in their class schedule and worried that they would have a delayed graduation date due to these changes. He took extra time and care with this student to assist them through the whole process, ending with the student getting the classes they needed to stay on track. He is a great faculty member and extremely dedicated to the success of his students. Ellis is a great example of what it means to be a Blazer and is an asset to the Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business.

Sandra  Di Pietro, Financial Aid

Mrs. Di Pietro and her staff were extremely prompt in addressing a VA tuition assistance concern.  She provided thorough background information on how the VA recognizes hybrid and traditional class hours--all of my questions were resolved in a professional manner...great service!

Chandler Day & Student Union Staff, Student Life

My department recently organized two support meetings for pre-nursing, dental hygiene, and pre-exercise physiology students. Chandler was consistently responsive, professional, and helpful even after I updated the contract several times. On our meeting dates, the front desk staff was professional and pleasant. I had a challenge connecting to the Internet on the first day. So I called downstairs for assistance and received it within minutes. On the second day, I was greeted with the same warmth and professionalism I have come to expect from the staff in the Union.  The setup team in the ballroom completed their work by the time I arrived and ensured all was well with me before they left.
Thank you, Student Union staff for an impressive job. The technology, service experience, and physical meeting spaces were excellent.

To Your Success,

Kirk

Chandler Day, Student Life

I had a major employer contact me at the beginning of Spring semester for a campus recruiting event, who was not scheduled to attend this semester. Generally, our office's events are scheduled by the end of the previous semester. Due to the enormity of the opportunity I had to work to secure a location highly populated by students for maximum exposure for the employer. Chandler assisted me with my request and worked hard to get me a prime location in the Student Union that is generally unavailable in order to meet the needs of the employer.

Sydney Land, Event Services

Sydney went out of her way to get a room set up for Skype interviews for the Theatre and Dance programs. She was incredibly responsive, helpful, and in constant communication. We are appreciative of all of her efforts to assist us!

Ashley Cooper, Employee & Organizational Development

I would like to recognize Ashley Cooper for her "can do" attitude toward problem-solving. She recently assisted me with an issue regarding BlazeVIEW and displayed great technical expertise as well as remarkable patience (with me) until the problem was resolved. Ashley embraces the concept of "customer service" like few others.

Talisha Braswell, Registrar

I mean she had great customer service, and helped me with everything I needed and more with no complaints.

Talisha Braswell, Registrar

She was awesome. She went above and beyond to get me what I needed. She was patient and very understanding.

Whit Chappell, Men’s Baseball

Whit stopped by campus mail services on a regular basis to bring up donuts and to tell us how much he is appreciated us. His encouragement was and still is very much appreciated by myself and the staff of campus mail.

Robert Spires, Middle, Second, Reading & Deaf Education

Since I have been assigned to teach EDUC2120 "Exploring Sociocultural Perspectives on Diversity," I always invite Dr. Spires to present to the students about his research in south Asia, where he and his NGO coworkers use bamboo to build the Easel School on the rainforest muddy village to teach "children who are at risk of human trafficking" English as the world language, and technology to connect the world. Based on my students' reflection on his presentation, I can see how my students admire him as a great and passionate educator like Preire (1993). As teacher candidates, they are motivated by him! We need to see the model like Dr. Spires in teacher education.

Sergio Brown, Central Warehouse

Sergio responded immediately to my requests for a few items that I wanted for my office. Not only did he send me pictures and dimensions of the items, but he was very pleasant and helpful as he quickly delivered the items.  It was very refreshing to have my simple requests responded to in such an efficient and friendly manner.

Wyketa Evans, Communication Arts

I called over to speak with Dr. Borzi today and when Wykata told me he was unavailable she followed with "is there something I can help you with?" This isn't the first time she has done this. I appreciate her willingness to assist and to not turn someone away. This is the kind of service excellence we should all have on campus.

John Wright, Student Life

I have seen Dr. Wright at every home basketball game working the pyrotechnics at every game.  This new addition to the game has really brought a professional feel to the athletic event.  It gets the crowd and the athletic teams hyped.  He has also volunteered to do multiple Bringing in the Bystander trainings in the evening for students.  He has committed this extra time and effort to make this University a great place to attend.  As he always stays, "It's a great day to be a Blazer" and he emulates that.  Thank you Dr. Wright for all your hard work.  It does not go unnoticed....

Marc Pufong, Political Science

Professor Pufong allowed me to work my schedule around a seminar. He stays after class anytime I need to help out even if that means it will put him behind on his schedule. He puts a lot of work in the class. He also stops class because a girl was sick to ask her was she ok. I have yet to encounter a professor that is sincerer than Professor Pufong.

Gardner Rogers, English

Professor Rogers is a wonderful teacher to his students and a great help to me in the office. He will come thru every day to check on me, the dept.’s secretary, and makes sure the office copier has plenty of paper. For this alone he deserves high praise. He's always so willing to help me out with any office problem I have/had and he truly deserves this ICYC recognition!

Shelby Lamar, Human Resources

When applying for a position through the university website, a problem occurred with my applicant account. The resolution turned out to be more convoluted than a simple account reset; nonetheless, Shelby kept working patiently and diligently until the resolution was finalized. I want to thank Shelby for going above-and-beyond! Thank you, Shelby!!!

Chandler Day, Student Union Operating

Chandler assists me each year with venue reservations and planning for our Dental Hygiene Pinning Ceremony.  I can ALWAYS count on her friendly, prompt and efficient service.  Her work ethic and attention to detail eliminate many of the stressful moments that go into planning a large annual event. Thanks Chandler!

Laura Wright, Odum Library

Laura provided an exceptional training session to my class- even when I tossed her an unexpected curveball. She helped avert a disaster with some very flexible scheduling.

Kenneth Ott, Adult & Career Education

A student enrolled in the off-campus Moody AFB weekend classes missed the first weekend due to a family illness. Dr. Ott met with the student during his office hours to go over what he missed instead of suggesting the student to drop.

Vesta Whisler, Adult & Career Education

A student that was due to graduate in Fall '17 learned that he was short only 1 class from receiving his degree. The student had been offered a management position but could not accept it unless he had his degree. Dr. Wisler set up an exempt exam for the student to take in less than the time required so the student would not miss the job opportunity he had dreamed of getting.

Kyle Culpepper, New Media Center

Since 2012 when I was assigned to teach the course, "Exploring sociocultural perspectives on diversity," usually I have about 20 students participate in the annual Undergraduate Research Symposium each year by posters. Mr. Kyle Culpepper is always very patient to work with my students and help them create very beautiful posters for the symposium. We all appreciate his hard work and his creative mind.

Selensia Holmes, Office of Social Equity

History was in a bind, and we needed help from the Office of Social Equity. Ms. Holmes came in during her vacation and fixed every problem. She did us a solid, and we very much appreciate her kind effort. As long as VSU has folks like Selensia Holmes, we're heading in the right direction.

Chandler Day, Student Union Operating

Since the beginning of last spring Chandler has been instrumental in the growth of the Golden Key International Honor Society here on campus. She's always helping us secure room reservations, contacting community leaders for service opportunities, and being there for us when we need her. Chandler continues to go above and beyond in her role as Golden Key advisor and the Reservations Coordinator for Student Life!

Denise Sauls, Nursing

Mrs. Sauls exemplifies the I Caught You Caring in her daily life. To pick just one moment would do Mrs. Sauls an injustice.

In the classroom, she is phenomenal with her students. She engages with her students, makes class and clinical not only a learning experience but a fun and applicable experience, and is always willing to help no matter what. It doesn't matter if you a concerned with a grade and need extra help or if you are just having a bad day and need someone to talk to, she always there to listen and help.

In the community, Mrs. Sauls is very involved. She volunteers mainly with hospice center in Valdosta while serving on the Hospice board, multiple community run organizations such as the Alzheimer's run, Second Harvest, and various others around the community. She would give you the shirt off of her back, even if it didn't fit. She is an all-around caring person and deserves this award and much more!

Chad Daugherty, Financial Aid

I am very grateful to Mr. Daugherty, Associate Director of Financial Aid,  for his assistance in ensuring my financial needs were met as a graduate student for the last two semesters.  He consistently exemplified efficiency and excellent customer service skills through his prompt responses and timely advice.  Indeed, his approach seems second nature and customer/student  driven.

"Money matters" can be a hindrance or a help.  I am grateful, in this regard, Mr. Daugherty ensured it was the latter to the degree it allows me the financial support as I strive to complete my degree.

Take a bow, Mr. Daugherty, on behalf of me and all the other VSU students you assist daily, and Thank you again!

Maggie Vallotton, College of the Arts

Ms. Vallotton continuously goes above and beyond to help the COA team.  This week with different deadlines approaching, Ms. Vallotton not only completed her tasks but offered to help others complete their tasks.  Ms. Vallotton truly understands what it means to be a team player.  Her positive attitude and enthusiasm makes it a joy to come to work each day.

Corey Nawolski, Adult and Career Education

I am a transfer student from N.G.T.C. I have to admit I've been a bit nervous changing to a new school and being completely online. Corey has be very helpful and has made my transition flawless. Corey and Mr. Donnell Davis, Nathan Metzner, The office of admissions, and Financial aid have been so understanding and kind in this transition to total online status. Thank you for the great team you have established at VSU.

Melissa Adams, Plant Services

A great thanks to Melissa Adams, Senior Secretary, Plant Facilities, for being very efficient in receiving the repair request and ensuring they were resolved in a (record-breaking) manner!  Your assistance and contributions made a difference! Thank you and thank you to the technicians who responded to the matter(s).

Elaine Darity, Student Recreation Center

Elaine has been working tirelessly to make sure all forms and travel are completed for the candidates we are bringing to Campus for our Coordinator of Competitive Sports Position. This is no easy task and I am so thankful to have her working on this for me and getting it done so quickly! She has helped me tremendously as the chair of this search and I would not have been able to get our candidates to VSU as quickly as we have if she would not have put in so much extra work for the needed paperwork. She is a huge asset to all of us at Campus Rec!

Pepper Croft, IT

Pepper was very helpful with assisting our office with a project that was on a tight deadline. Even with constant changes she remained patient. Thank you!

Renee Whitmer, Education

Working with Renee is always a pleasure! Renee went above and beyond in helping me help a former student request teacher licensing information. Thank you, Renee, for always providing excellence in your service to students, staff, and faculty! You are awesome!

Graham Nguyen, Creative Services

VSU's Video Production Coordinator, Graham Nguyen, gave a lesson to students in the Media Production III course in the Mass Media program at VSU. He encouraged students to ask questions during his presentation and he provided substantive feedback and advice for getting started in the media field at the end of his presentation.

Laura Byers, Access Office

At our recent Open House we had several families that needed accommodations provided by our Access Office. Laura went far beyond what was expected and contacted all of the families 3 weeks prior to our event to fully understand their needs. Laura made sure their accommodations were met by her area and even recruited additional campus partners and a recent graduate to come help out. When the families arrive they were highly impressed with how prepared we were and overall had a very positive experience while visiting VSU. Thank you Laura!!

Marley Holcomb, Financial Services

Marley was very helpful in getting my reimbursement. Since I am the debate coach here
at VSU, I have to travel extensively and must be reimbursed on a regular basis. Marley is always
thorough, complete, and prompt. Most recently she helped get my plane fares reimbursed for our national tournament which will be held in Portland Oregon later this semester. Thanks Marley! Go Blazers!

Diane Guess, College of Business Administration

I came into Ms. Guess's office looking for any way to graduate on time after needing to drop a course in my final semester. Ms. Guess could clearly how distraught I was and went out of her way to help me find a solution that allowed me to not only just walk in May but also still get my degree in May as well. I cannot say enough great things about Ms. Guess and how much she helped me. Ms. Guess, thank you so much!

Wes Duke, IT

Wes helped me with several computer problems this morning!! He is great and very helpful! He was able to remote desktop in and fix the problems a lot quicker than it would have taken me to figure it on my own!

Catherine Minter Wills, HR

Came back to work full-time in January, 2018.  Spoke over the phone with Ms. Wills about benefits available and what I wanted.  Made an appointment with her and when I went in to see her she had all my requests ready to be signed off on.  She even took the extra time to explain some things I had not even thought about from a benefits point of view. Super polite, friendly, fast service.  She is definitely a people person.  I know this, she is my people person.  Kudos to her.

Marley Holcomb, Financial Services

Thank you for showing me how to delete an expense report in the new OneUSG system.  I appreciate your patience and detailed instructions.  You are truly an asset to Finance and Administration. Keep up the great work!!!!

Wendy Miller, Adult and Career Education

Mrs. Wendy went above and beyond by cleaning our Apple lab, wiping down the tables and chairs for which we are grateful, especially since the FLU is among us!

The Apple Classroom was left a mess and Ms. Wendy took it upon herself to not only take care of the mess but also wipe down and disinfect all of the tables and chairs in preparation for our New Teacher Institute class on 2/17. Thank you SO much, Ms. Wendy!

Prior to our arrival, she came into the lab and sanitized the table and all hard surfaces. THANK YOU!

She cleaned the tables.

She cleaned the entire apple lab because it was not clean.

Cleaned and sanitized the lab.

Wendy cleaned the whole Apple lab to get it ready for our NTI class meeting Saturday.  THANK YOU WENDY!!!!!

She went above and beyond to clean and organized our classroom prior to meeting, wiping down table, chairs, doors and all.

Amy Williams, Adult and Career Education

Amy came in and wiped the desks down for the class room! Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to the NTI Class!

Caroline Davis, Centralized Advising

Caroline organized the 2018 Majors and Minors Fair, which is an opportunity for students to meet and speak with representatives from the various departments in the search for the appropriate major, minor, or overall academic experience. This program was months in the making, and Caroline meticulously planned each detail. From a full scale marketing plan to a traffic flow pattern that maximized the space of the event, she intentionally accounted for all factors. As students left the event, the response was overwhelmingly positive as they noted that the fair was informative and enjoyable with door prizes, a drawing, and pizza. Caroline's hard work resulted in a successful and impactful experience for our students.

Andrew Scott, New Media Center

Andrew saved the day in preparing for a training class. I was bringing evaluations and a roster to a class and I noticed the roster was for the wrong day, without hesitation he used his one card to reprint the roster for me so I wouldn't have to walk back across campus. Thank you, Andrew!!!

Lynette Hepburn-Richardson, Career Opportunities

Today we enjoyed a dynamite presentation by Ms. Lynette Hepburn-Richardson.  She came to my History 3000 class, and provided a stimulating overview of what the career center could do for all VSU students.  I wish I'd been lucky enough to have such a thoughtful and highly skilled professional offer me advice on what to do after graduation.  At FSU, you had to go to the career center for advice; at VSU, thanks to super folks like Ms. Hepburn-Richardson, advice comes to you!

Please thank her for this fine effort!

Maggie Vallotton, College of Arts

Maggie showed up early to work at 7:40am. When I came into the Dean's office this morning, Maggie was cheerful and was ready to tackle today's tasks. It is evident how much she cares for this college, by how she answers the phone, greets students and works alongside the grad assistants and student assistants in the dean's office.

Karen Rubin, College of Education

She has been advising and looking after me ever since I was placed in their department. I'm so grateful for her knowledge and her help. She helped me to add a class I needed for my major because she knew my goal was to graduate.

Deborah Robson, Communication Arts

She always goes above and beyond, even the hours that she's here. She's super motivational and passionate about what she teaches. She deeply cares about all of us as individuals. She doesn't make me feel like a number.

Todd Mitchell, IT Help Desk

Excel and Word programs failed us just as we were about to present important documents for a meeting with the President and the Provost. Todd stayed with us for as long as it took (hours), retrieved the documents, and got us up and working again. Todd Mitchell rocks!

Wes Babcock, IT

Wes Babcock was such a help and support when we ran into computer problems while preparing for an important meeting with upper administration. We can't thank him enough for his willingness to help.

Tabitha McCoy, Psychology, Counseling and Family Therapy

Not once, by twice, Excel and Word programs crashed while Tabitha was creating important charts, graphs, and narrative for a meeting with the President and the Provost. Not once, but twice, Tabitha kept her cool, re-created documents while IT worked with her to recover the lost docs. Tabitha is an invaluable person to the Family Therapy program. Thank you, Tabitha!

Jenny White, Budgeting Services

Jenny has always been so very willing to help me with any taxing budget question I have or have had in the past ten years. I call her any time I have questions or need a print out or have budget issues online or ... She's one awesome lady and truly deserves to know we care.

Linnie Kinard, IT

Ms. Linnie is the awesome - wonderful - smartest- person I know. She is truly the People Soft guru of VSU!! Any time I've ever called her with a question or serious problem she's always been there for me with an answer. Her personality is so beautiful and I very much enjoy working with her. Ms. Linnie really deserves to know we care.

Jennifer Griffin, Bursary

Mrs. Griffin will go above and beyond her job description to help a student financially get through college. I remember I fought with the registrar office to officially declare me an in-state student so that I could pay in-state fees and Mrs. Griffin did more than her duty to call whoever she could and think of any options she could in order to help me continue my education here at VSU. For that, I will never forget her and extremely appreciative of everything that she has done for me and other students.

Melissa Moore Nolley, The Graduate School

Ms. Nolley exhibited and exceptional level of patience, understanding and tolerance when dealing with a situation involving my graduate application. In a nutshell I had several undergrad transcripts sent to her office. Due to a mistake on my undergrad school's part, every single transcript said I had not graduated when in actuality I had. Ms. Nolley, calmly, efficiently, and professionally dealt with my semi-hysterical phone calls, rabid emails and even with my undergrad institution - she even managed to keep her sense of humor!

I know I wasn't the only student Ms. Nolley had to deal with, but she made me feel like I had all of her attention - I didn't feel like a number, or an anonymous student or anything other than a hopeful potential member of VSU.

She cares, and for that, even if I had not been accepted into VSU, her efforts counted.

Brittany Blackerby, Housing

Brittany is my RA, but is also one my peers in our major. I was having trouble understanding my Linguistics homework, and although she was tired she continued to help me understand what I needed to do. Along with that she often practices ASL with me and other classmates to ensure that our signing skills are improving.

Holly Wright, Counseling Center

She is an exceptional person. She is definitely an overall amazing person.

Gerald Merwin, Public Administration

Thank you for always being so helpful when I email.  Doing all that you can even if you are not familiar with the subject.  You go above and beyond and you are great at your job. Thank you again!

Michelle Ocasio, ESOL

She did an excellent job through the semester.

Mandi Bailey, Political Science

Professor Bailey has been very helpful by answering the many questions I have had regarding Pi Sigma Alpha inductions. I really appreciate all that she has done for me.

Sandra Di Pietro, Financial Aid

Mrs. Di Pietro was more than happy to help with my issues and was prompt with her service. She was also very positive with fixing my problem.

Paul Vincent, Physics, Astronomy & Geosciences

Thank you so much for being such an amazing professor! You put so much time and effort into my spring and summer classes and I greatly appreciate it! Thank you for getting to know me and helping me in your classes!

Mouyyed Hassouna, General Studies

I just want to thank you for being genuine to us, your students, and honestly caring about the betterment and uplift of all people, society, and the world as a whole. On March 1, 2018, you told us how you believe that if each, individual person betters and works on themselves, it will in turn make the world a better place and I completely agree with this. When you said this it opened my eyes more to the fact that we must help ourselves, to essentially be genuine, then help others. Thank you again.

Catherine Bowers, Odum Library

Catherine helped my on the brink of panic, talked me down from almost tears, not only helped me find the information I was looking for, but taught me how to find it myself, for the future. She is outstanding!

Wendy Miller, Adult and Career Education

My classes got dropped because of family/financial issues while Dr. Backes was out with his kidney transplant surgery. Mrs. Miller helped me get everything back in order and my classes reinstated. She also made sure that our classroom was clean and in order for Dr. Backes's return to Saturday class on 2-17-2018. It was very important to take every precaution possible to prevent Dr. Backes from being exposed to any infections or germ since he was just returning from his kidney surgery. Mrs. Miller took it upon herself to wipe down all the tables, and clean the classroom to try to break the chain of infection that might be present. I think that's called going above and beyond what's expected to do a great job. Thank you to Mrs. Miller for taking care of me, our NTI class, and Dr. Backes (Who's like a father to you).

 Kenny Williams, Grounds

I was struggling attempting to bring a heavily loaded cart from my vehicle into the building. Mr. Williams saw that I was having difficulty and stopped what he was doing to graciously help me. He pulled the cart into the building for me. I was incredibly appreciate of his help.

Gerald Merwin, Public Administration

I am in the adult education program, on path to earn my bachelor degree around July.  I would like to say how much I appreciate Dr. Gerald Merwin for always taking time to explain the course of my studies, without making me feel as if I am bothering him.   Sometimes it can be a challenge for online students to effectively communicate with advisors and other administrations of VSU, without being on the actual campus and face to face.  But, each time that I have needed Dr. Merwin, his voice tones and email language always give me assurance that I am on the right track and he directs me to the next level each time.  This may be considered part of his job - true, but not all come across, through communication, as enjoying what they do and leave you feeling that they were truly glad to help.  Dr. Merwin is on point with the full page of professionalism, empathy, consideration, and leadership.  Thank you Dr. Merwin.

Karen Rubin, College of Education

Mrs. Rubin has shown me what service and hard work is all about. She works hard for every student that she does the general advising for, and she also helps us with our work whenever she has a free moment and that is outstanding. Mrs. Rubin deserves endless recognition for what she does to satisfy the students here at Valdosta State University as she prepares us for our future lives and careers. Thanks on behave of all your students.

Michael Sanger, Social Work

Thank you, Dr. Sanger for covering my classes while I was on sick leave.

Steve Scheuler, Odum Library

I was having problems printing and had to add more money to my card.  When I returned with my wallet, Steve (front desk clerk morning shift) had already printed the 30 page reading assignment and did not charge me.  Moreover, Steve instructed me on how to add money to my account.  Thanks Steve for being an exceptional caring human being.

Hilary Willis, Admissions

Ms. Willis was very friendly and very helpful.  I was a new student, who needed some help on what the next step was after being accepted to the University.  She answered all my questions, gave me directions to where I needed to go and she handed me her business card and said to call if I needed more of her assistance.

Ashley Williams, Web Services

Ashley has been amazing with assisting the KSPE department with getting their website up to date, improved, and redundant material removed in a quick manner. I have been extremely impressed with her professional demeanor, attention to detail, and time management. THANK YOU Ashley for all of your hard work and dedication.

Julene Smith, Nursing

The faculty member goes out of her way to make sure our clinicals for mental health are covered. She is very knowledgeable in the field of mental health and always shares her knowledge! Excellent teacher!

Christopher Meyers, History

Dr. Meyers has been very accommodating and helpful in making independent study courses available.  This has enabled me to stay on track with my desired entry date into my program of study.  I am so grateful.

Karen Rubin, College of Education

Dr. Rubin has been a lifesaver!  She has went above and beyond to ensure that I am able to begin my program at the desired time.  She makes me feel like a valued student.  I am grateful for her professionalism and her efficiency.

Melissa Nolley, The Graduate School

Melissa provided invaluable advice and excellent customer service during the application process.   I can't thank her enough for her tips that helped me get everything in on time.  Thank you!

JoAnn Bryant, Procurement

JoAnn constantly goes out of her way to give us a hand when we are in over our head or confused about what should be done. She is a wonderful example of the helpfulness that we should all show each other to ensure this campus runs smoothly and efficiently.

The Theatre & Dance programs are appreciative of you!

Kate Belliveau, Employee and Organizational Development

I have been meaning to send a grateful thank you for Katelynn. I could not wait to hear about the new leadership program and I wrote her in the first week of Jan., only to realize GA's did not start until the following week. However, Katelynn went above expectation and actually replied to my email on the same day. Her enthusiasm and hard work is very appreciated. Thank you Kate for being so proactive and passionate on what you do. Thank you for giving me feedback and always keeping me on track so I can continue to conquer those goals. With gratitude, Karin.

Preyah James, IT

I wish I could write one of these cards for every time Preyah comes to our office. She has exceptional customer service and always goes above and beyond in helping. She always looks to find a solution to any problem and provides super quick work with care and quality. I am grateful for all you do Preyah. You are an example to follow.

Shawn McDonald, Parking & Transportation

EXCELLENT Driver!

Emily Seckinger, Housing and Residence Life

Ms. Seckinger was very kind when helping me out. She made sure that everything was done correctly. She was very friendly.

Mrs. Seckinger was very kind and positive when helping my friend and I find the perfect room. She was very friendly and made the process easy.

Catherine Wills, Human Resources

For over a month, Mrs. Catherine has deeply helped me in getting my daughter back to the insurance since there was a mistake made. She went on, beyond and above in helping me all while the HR department suffered many changes and was overwhelmed with work. Her work ethic is exemplary and her personal care is worth the highest of recognition. I am forever grateful for her exceptional service. She leads by example and follows VSU leadership goals and standards.

Kelsey Behrend, Event Services

Kelsey and the Event Services/Commencement staff did a great job of marketing the recent Grad Finale. We had more students than ever come through and the number of 1906 Society sign ups was double what it has been in previous years at Grad Finale.

Dr. Michele Blankenship and Dr. Lynda Dee Davis Ott, College of Nursing & Health Sciences

We want to take a moment and thank Dr. Ott and Dr. Blankenship for taking time out of their afternoon to give the new VSU staff members attending orientation that day an exceptional tour of the Nursing facilities in HSBA! What began as just a "peek" inside one of the classrooms during the regularly scheduled campus tour portion of New Employee Orientation turned into a full tour of the Nursing floor and a truly unique experience for those involved. All of the new staff members who attended orientation that day kept talking about how much they really enjoyed getting to hear and see what VSU students get to experience in the College of Nursing & Health Sciences. Thank you for giving them something to remember!

Travis Nolley & Dustin Watson, IT

Travis and Dustin, I wanted to let you know that we figured out the problem with the Meetio display units. We appreciate you for the phone calls and the email communications to help identify the problem. You and the rest of IT are doing a great service for our university. This is just one example of the many great unspoken services that you all provide.

James LaPlant, Graduate School

Thank you for going out of your way to ensure that each student in the graduate school feels welcomed and valued. You have done a lot of amazing things since you have taken over the graduate school. Thank you for taking the time to listen to each and every request that comes your way, putting your students first. Keep up the good work!

Honey Coppage, Academic Affairs

I want to say thank you to Mrs. Coppage. She is very diligent and always has the student's best interests at heart. Even though difficult and often unexpected circumstances may arise, she is always attentive and patient. Her time and hard work is very appreciated.

Derrick Carter, African American Studies

Dr. Carter exemplifies the I Caught You Caring in his daily life. To pick just one moment would be an injustice.

Dr. Derrick Carter is one of the most exceptional advisers on campus! He never fails to uplift the spirits of those around him and set aside his personal problems to aid the students. His motto is, "What can I do for the students?" and he never fails to exhibit just that. He is never too busy to come to the assistance of a student, or simply provide a few kind words of affirmation. His office is a no-judgement zone, where he will listen to any problem without unfairness or partiality. With a warm heart and a selfless aura, Dr. Carter is a prime example of what it means to be adviser here at Valdosta State University. He represents the school to the highest degree.

Take a bow, Dr. Carter! You are very much appreciated, even if your students forget to let you know.

Tonya Hernandez, Off Campus – Camden Center

In preparation to return laboratory equipment and supplies from the Camden Center to the main campus, Tonya took the lead and ensured that all of the Valdosta State University materials were removed from the Chemistry, Biology and Geo-Sciences labs.  She then ensured that all of the equipment was properly wrapped to prevent shipping damage, properly boxed up and staged for easy access for the warehouse personnel to pick-up and transport back to the respective departments at the main campus.  In all, there are 75 moving boxes and an additional 25 items, from projector carts to mobile video units that will be relocated to the main campus and put to good use by the faculty and students.  Tonya handled this tremendous task in addition to her daily duties as testing coordinator, financial aid advisor and admissions specialist for the students at the Camden Center.  Outstanding effort and job well done!

Judy Bailey, Odum Library

I'd like to recognize the good natured and efficient Judy Bailey.  I visit the library for professional matters at least once every month.  Sometimes I need help from Dean Bernstein.  When he's not about, I am asking Ms. Bailey questions, and always obtain rapid, courteous, and useful responses.  She is remarkably well organized, constantly cheerful, and the kind of office manager that is vital to making VSU a successful institution.  Please thank her for her excellence.

Sage Archer, Event Services

Sage really helped me out of a bind after I missed the deadline to request a space on campus. I needed an outside space to hold some teambuilding exercises for students in the VSU1101 class and learned too late that I needed to reserve outside space the same as inside space. Sage's willingness to work with me and see if there was still an unused space as well allow me to reserve it not only an exceptional example of collegiality, but she also made it possible for our students to engage in  intentional, impactful, and fun activities that will reinforce concepts they are learning in class.

Jamae Flint, Financial Services

I recently had to close out my bank account due to fraudulent activity, and I forgot that my paycheck was direct deposited into my account. Frantically, I called Financial Services in hopes that I could either get a paper check or have it fixed so that my check would be deposited into my new bank account. Jamae worked with me, and because of when I called I was able to get it fixed without having to wait on a paper check to be mailed to me. She was so easy to work with and made my worries disappear!

Todd Howard, Grounds

Todd took the time to clean our golf cart.  We really appreciate his help and friendliness.

Sandra Y.G. Jones, Career Opportunities

I would like to recognize Sandra Y.G. Jones for her exceptional work as the Employer Relations Coordinator within the Office of Career Opportunities! She has been working hard to bring in employers to the campus to meet our students. Her passion pushes her to spend extra hours at work, and that is to be commended. Sandra has created relationships with Fortune 500 companies such as Amazon, GEICO, and more. The turn-out of employers to the Spring Career Expo has grown by 30% this semester and it's because of her hard work and dedication to the students here at VSU! Great job, Sandra! Thanks for making great connections for our students!

Christy Yates, Finance and Administration

The last few months I have had several questions regarding the PeopleAdmin system and human resources.  Each time I have reached out to Christy regarding my questions she has been very responsive and helpful.  She has helped me to better plan for my department.  I really appreciated her kind, helpful and timely responses.  She is doing a great job wearing multiple hats and managing all her duties.

Mona McMillan, Which Which (Student Union)

Mona makes ordering a sandwich the bright spot of your day! She provides the kind of service that we all should provide at VSU: friendly, caring, and accurate.  Thank you, Mona!

Regina Lee, Human Resources

Regina walked me through a number of questions I had regarding benefits. She was patient, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. More importantly, she made sure to follow up and give me a more detailed answer to one question that required some research. As wonderful as my interaction with her was, I cannot say it was surprising. Every time I've had the pleasure of working with her, this has been her habit. I have come to expect and depend on her expertise and I am very thankful for all her assistance.

Michael Stalvey, Human Resources

I emailed Mr. Stalvey a question regarding some point-of-contact changes. Not only did he respond quickly to my email, but he also called me to follow-up on my question. I appreciated his efficiency, kindness and thorough response to my question!

Ashley Braswell, Langdale College of Business

Ashley Braswell is incredible. It doesn't matter how busy she is; she is always willing to help students. As a development officer, her regular duties do not always require regular interaction with students, but that does not stop her from helping them. Many students are new to the North Campus and Mrs. Braswell is always willing to drop whatever she is doing to get them to where they need to be. Whether that be class, their professor's office or the advising center, she is there for them. She is also responsible for organizing numerous events; some of these require students to make presentations. This can be a nerve-racking experience for them. Ashley Braswell always makes their experience a positive one. Through her feedback and support, the quality of their presentations improves and their nervousness dissipates. Needless to say, Ashley Braswell is an important member of the Blazer family!

Shelly Yankovskyy, Sociology, Anthropology & Criminal Justice

She is always available for questions that you have for her class. I was worried about taking anthropology but after being in her class I am extremely happy I took it. She makes the class interesting and fun to learn. I have gained so much knowledge by taking her class. She is awesome.  I wish there were more teachers like her.

Lisa Lowe, Nursing

Professor Lowe is dedicated to spending as much time on each of her students as they need, in order to help them become confident and comfortable in what they are doing. From spending extra one on one time to walk through a procedure that normally makes nursing students nervous to helping them to find scholarship opportunities, resources, and any knowledge that they are interested in, Professor Lowe is 100% there for her students. While normally a student studies hard and perfects their skills because they are a little afraid of being called on and NOT knowing the answer, Professor Lowe's students go the extra mile because her delight when we know more than she expected or get an answer correct is a positive driving force. I for one have never worked harder and subsequently loved it more. Our group is going to miss Professor Lowe very much next semester.

Danny was extremely helpful in coordinating our department's use of the eLearning lab and the bluejeans conferencing software and hardware so that we could live stream the candidate presentations. Danny also helped troubleshoot one of the presentations quickly and efficiently so that we could keep the presentation on schedule. We could not have done this without Danny's help and that of the other eLearning staff. They are a great department and very supportive of our program.

Tim Brunt, Building Maintenance

Mr. Brunt stayed until 6:30 pm working on the air conditioning unit. He was back again first thing the following morning, checking to make sure the unit was working properly. Unfortunately, by Monday morning it was not working again. He came by, identified the problem, replaced a part, and came back later to check to make sure it was running properly. He also put in a request to replace the old unit. He seemed genuinely concerned that not only were we comfortable, but that all of our guests who came to tour VSU each day, were comfortable as well. We greatly appreciate Mr. Brunt's efforts.

Debra McCrary, Bursary

I needed help with getting an estimate for my fall tuition. Ms. Debra was more than willing to email me something as proof of costs and answer any questions that I might have had.

Jeremy Tost, Psychology, Counseling, and Family Therapy

Dr. Tost has helped me register every semester over the phone. I needed proof of costs for my fall tuition and did not seem to be getting anywhere as the invoice was not loaded to my student account yet. I explained the problem to him and within two weeks he had reached out to Ms. Debra in the Bursary. They both helped me with the document I needed. This made me even more confident in the choice I made to attend VSU. He went above and beyond to help me! Thanks, Dr. Tost!!!

Irina McClellan, Center for International Programs

Irina is always extremely helpful with any aspect of study abroad preparation and realization. She is also always cheerful and goes the extra mile wherever she may be needed. In our last study abroad program in Costa Rica, she confirmed once again how much she cares about students and accompanying faculty. She went above and beyond in helping to solve the insurance problems smoothly and she was constantly monitoring the situation with a sick student. Her great spirits and professionalism exceeded any expectations. Thank you for your constant support, Irina!

Diane Guess, College of Business Administration

I have been trying to enroll in classes at VSU for two semesters, but due to working full time, I kept having many setbacks in being able to do so. My advisor, Ms. Guess, was truly a blessing. Since I was at work during normal business hours and in a rush to register for summer classes, she contracted departments for me to ensure I was able to be registered for the summer semester and get the classes I needed. She took her valuable time and kept following up with me and my application status. I cannot thank her enough for her compassion, dedication, and understanding. She is a wonderful asset to Valdosta State University.

Thanks to people like Phillip, we are able to focus on other projects that need to completed this summer!

Jennifer Grubbs, Athletics

Coach Grubbs is one of the most amazing people I have had the chance to work with on this campus. She is always willing to lend an ear, always excited about her job, and always so very supportive. From helping me connect with the coaches to rounding up student volunteers to helping me figure out how to get a metric ton of laundry done, she is always there to help!

They acted without hesitation and helped save valuable time during this process.

Susan Jones, Plant Services

Recently the department has been doing a number of technology upgrades across campus. In one instance, we were upgrading a number of rooms in Odum and needed assistance with inputting a work order to cover the scope of work we needed by Plant Operations. Not only did Susan take over the input process, but she even went as far as to make sure she included the paint to do touch up painting after the work was done. This was something I had not even thought about. Great customer service from Susan. Thank you.

Wes Duke, IT

Wes has been very accommodating in the development and implementation of new images in the Mass Media building this summer. He was able to create desktop images in a very tight time frame, provided updates along the way, and asked for verification during each step of the process to make sure the work met the needs of the Mass Media program. I am very thankful for his hard work and willingness to work with faculty and support student learning with computer-oriented solutions.

Sterlin Sanders, IT

Sterlin attended an Internal Audit Awareness presentation on Internal Control, and I was trying to use a new application called Poll Everywhere in PowerPoint to add some interaction with participants into the workshop. After several attempts to get this application working, he promised that he would get this up and running for my next workshop. He went above and beyond to help me and even made sure that it worked before he left the presentation. Now that's what its all about! Customer Service at its best!! I really appreciate his kindness and the exceptional customer service he provided. Kudos, Sterlin and to IT for all that you all do to make VSU a great place to work!! Great to be a BLAZER!!!

Ms. Bryant's exceptional job knowledge is a tremendous asset to VSU. Without her understanding and experience, we would not have been able to meet our year-end deadlines. Her performance is extraordinary and exceptional- Thank YOU!

Jamae Flint, Budgeting Services

Yesterday Ms. Jamae went above and beyond in helping get back access to OneUSG. She contacted IT, OneUSG, and did everything she could so that I could make approvals in a timely manner. I had been told I would only get access in a couple of days, however, with Ms. Jamae's contacts and perseverance, I had access in a couple of hours. Thank you, Ms. Jamae, for all that you do! You are appreciated!

Nancy Carballo, Human Resources

Thank you, Nancy, for all the help during this past month, not only with support with questions relating to our future assistants, but for all the work, time, and attention to the changes I had to make in the system. You made sure I completed all the steps and guided me in the direction I was headed. Your kindness and hard work are appreciated.

Mr. Jordan has come to the rescue on several occasions, and twice this week in high-stakes situations. He is patient and kind, professional, and good at what he does. I'm so grateful that he is a resource for our college.

Michael Holt, Odum Library

Thanks to Michael Holt, we now have an analytics tool available in ALMA to simplify the process of processing our inventory records. He was super quick to help resolve the problem.

Sterlin Sanders, IT

I was advising a student who was discouraged and was losing interest in continuing at VSU. After taking a skills assessment, I realized the student's strength in math and technology. His plan at the time was to quit college and just find a job. This troubled me and I believed with simple mentorship and encouragement, his trajectory could change. I thought immediately about Mr. Sanders and his history with VSU.  I called Mr. Sanders and shared the young man's story. In an instant, Sterlin asked how he could help. He asked if the young man was available and in less than 10 minutes, he was walking through the doors!!! This brought tears to my eyes. I am aware of Mr. Sanders' busy schedule but he didn't think it robbery to come to meet a student to help him. I believe Mr. Sanders sacrifice of time created a new path for this young man's future. Thank you so much, Sterlin!!! I do not have the words to express the impact your actions had on the young man and myself. It is an honor to know and work alongside with you! #GoBlazers

You are doing a fantastic job Michael and I am grateful for all of your help. You truly know how to guide us on how to navigate PeopleAdmin.

Charles Backes, Adult and Career Education

I had some difficulty with my graduation application. Needless to say, I was very upset. I emailed Dr. Backes, my advisor, to help. He immediately responded and fixed the issue. He is a great professor and advisor. He is an asset to the program and I believe that I am a better teacher due to the NTI program.

Wes Duke, IT

Wes came to my registration lab because my computer would not remote log-in. We couldn't figure it out over the phone, so he walked over to help. Wonderful customer service and very thankful to have his help on this busy day!

Sterlin Sanders, IT

The library reference desk received a call transferred from IT from a person trying to work a projector in another campus building. After multiple failed attempts to contact someone by phone who would be able to help him, Sterlin happened to walk by. I asked if he knew who I could get in touch with to aid this person. Sterlin immediately dropped what he was doing, took the call, and headed to the other building to assist them. He said it was lucky he was walking by, and I agree! He was extremely helpful and congenial.

Bryan Davis, IT

I was very concerned about being able to move all of my files, software, and licenses over to the new workstation without having to spend days copying and migrating. He came up with a solution to accommodate my needs. He also took the time to make sure everything was exactly like my old workstation. Then, he continued to check in from day to day to ensure everything was okay.

Hunter Mako, Event Services

We would like to show our appreciation for Hunter. Our office coordinates career events every semester, so we see Hunter a lot. He is always so nice, pleasant, and willing to help us when we need him. Last semester, there was a situation that was not communicated correctly. Hunter took the initiative and fixed the problem before the employers arrived to the career event. He is such a great help to our office, so we want to recognize him! Thank you for everything, Hunter! The Office of Career Opportunities appreciates you greatly!!

Barrie Fitzgerald, Office of Institutional Research

Mr. Barrie Fitzgerald provided invaluable advice and guidance while helping us streamline our processes for completing data reporting. Data reporting has been a project that takes an immense amount of time and energy (we have spent months working on one report). Mr. Fitzgerald helps prep and restructure our data in such a way as to decrease the time frame down to a week. Along with Mr. Fitzgerald’s assistance, by the end of summer, we will have 4 such large projects completed. We are so very grateful and indebted to Mr. Fitzgerald. Thanks again.

Dr. Ticknor donated and prepared delicious food for the employee appreciation breakfast. The time and effort she spent on making the breakfast special (and tasty) is truly appreciated.

Ralph Gosnell, IT

We needed some data ouled from Banner in order to complete a USG report in a timely mannner. I sent the request to Ralph to see if it was possible. He had everything we needed by the next day. From possible to done in less than 24 hours. That's amazing customer service! Thanks, Ralph.

Jason Brown, Mass Media

Jason had an appointment after a campus tour with a prospective student. The prospective student was on the way home and realized he missed his meeting. He turned around and came back to Valdosta to meet with Professor Brown. Jason stayed at the office for an extra three hours to meet with this student about the Mass Media Program. Thank you for ALL YOU DO and for helping us give prospective students the best experience when they get to campus!!

Karen Rubin, COEHS Advising Center

Dr. Rubin is one of the greatest multitaskers of our generation. The way she handles 20 different students' class schedules is breathtaking. For me, Dr. Rubin constantly reaches out to me and lets me know the requirements, along with asking how classes are going! I have never met someone so passionate about their job. The way she cares for each individual is amazing.

Karen Rubin, COEHS Advising Center

Dr. Rubin has always gone above and beyond to walk alongside me in my college experience. Against all obstacles, she coordinated my summer class, an independent study. I have truly seen her excellence. Without this course, my entire graduation track would have been set back. She was held to this, however, she set this course up because she cares and is so very passionate about the students she so selflessly serves.

Christopher Meyers, History Department

I have taken Dr. Meyers for several courses now and he always sets his students up for success. Through the course, Comparative Liberties 4800, I have seen him truly care for his students' academic success. He participated in this course out of the goodness of is character. Dr. Meyers makes students at Valdosta State feel cared for.

Jacob Highsmith, Psychology Department

I received exceptional service from Mr. Highsmith when I has a few concerns about my admission process. I appreciate his dedication to respond in a timely manner. Thank you so much!

Bobby Elston, Building Maintenance

Bobby did an exceptional job taking charge of a situation and following through until it was resolved. Although maintenance was scheduled on the Air Conditioning System at Hopper Hall, it was planned for a time when there would be fewer occupants. When schedules changed, the maintenance was scheduled for a time that conflicted with occupants and operation. Even though Bobby had not arranged for the contact maintenance, and with the Assistant Director on vacation, Bobby took charge of the situation. When he found that the maintenance could not be completed as soon as VSU would need it, he quickly canceled the maintenance and rescheduled the work for later in the year. Once he was aware of the problem, he had everything resolved within a couple of hours. Bobby probably uses this type of initiative every day, but today this highly visible solution-oriented response stood out as being an example of his excellent service.

Donna Gosnell, Chemistry Department

Dr. Gosnell served as a member of my thesis committee for the past 2 years at VSU. Despite being unwell on the day of my defense, she still came to support me from beginning to end that day when I needed it the most. This touched me so much and reinforced the fact that Dr. Gosnell is a prime example of a faculty member who puts herself aside in order to be there for her students. Thank you so much, Dr. Gosnell, for your unwavering support throughout this journey!

Theresa Grove, Biology Department

During my time in the biology master’s program these past 2 years, Dr. Grove's door was always open, literally. Whether I had a question about the physiology of a fish's swim bladder or just needed advice, there was not a single time that she ever turned me away. She always stopped in the middle of what she was doing to make time for me. Whenever she was confronted with a problem that she didn't know the answer to, she always attempted to solve it to the best of her ability. She has been such a pattern to me in so many ways. As I compose this note, I write it with the realization that no words I write could ever express or do justice to the overwhelming care, unsurpassable kindness, infinite wisdom, unwavering support, and precious hours of time that you devoted to helping me complete this leg of my academic journey and begin the next one. Thank you so much for everything, Dr. Grove!

Jonghoon Kang, Biology Department

During my time in the Biology masters program at VSU, Dr. Kang served as my thesis advisor, and I had the privilege to take classes with him, along with working on a research project under his mentorship. In addition to his teaching, Dr. Kang devotes an extraordinary amount of time to his students and the research projects they are working on. He is always actively involved and deeply invested in his students' projects. Whether in class or outside of class, he always encourages students to pursue academic research and presents them with multiple opportunities to do so. He cares very much that students are studying topics that interest them and make them happy. It is evident that Dr. Kang is not only very enthusiastic in the areas of teaching  and research, but that he is also genuinely invested in the long-term success of his students. I have learned so much from you in the areas of teaching and research these past 2 years. Thank you!

Todd Mitchell, IT

Todd helped our team immensely when we had several issues with technology in the room not working on a Sunday night. He stayed on the phone with us for a long time walking us through different attempts to set up a wireless microphone, configure display settings with the projector, and troubleshooting a keyboard that was not working. He was patient, calm, and pleasant the entire time. We even had to call him about 3 times. His help was very much appreciated by all of us!

Sage Archer, Event Services

Sage came to our Orientation session on a Saturday to evaluate it and see what her department can do to improve the experience for our students and their families. She did not have to come to this, especially on a Saturday, but it was highly appreciated. Sage is a valuable asset to Valdosta State University.

Catherine Storey, Accounting and Procurement

Catherine took time out of her already busy schedule to break down and explain something to me that I didn't understand that wasn't even related to her department. Her willingness to help out her co-workers without a second thought is something that, I believe, we need even more of on this campus. I know that I plan to try and mimic Catherine's behavior and work ethic in an effort to make my personal immediate surroundings more efficient. Thank you for your help, Catherine. You are appreciated!

Alan Sanderson, Physical Plant

Alan provided assistance during the year-end process at the drop of a hat. He was willing and ready to assist Procurement with contracts, agreements, and projects. Alan has always provided professional assistance and an upbeat attitude. His attention to detail and positive outlook has created a great environment to work in and with. Thank you for being so willing to jump in and help on such short notice!

Adrian has always been very patient with me and willing to explain the simplest of IT concepts. Today he absolutely made my day! Adrian has provided such a great working environment and relationship with IT. I am truly appreciative!

Karen Rubin, COEHS Advising Center

Karen Rubin has gone above and beyond to see that I am able to begin my program at my desired time. She is kind and professional. When I am in her office she has a way of making feel like I am a priority. I appreciate all she has done for me to help me advance into my program and I cannot wait to begin this fall.

Joshua Bass, IT

Joshua Bass has always assisted us in a very courteous and professional manner. He will go out of his way to ensure exceptional service is provided. On this one (of many) occasion, Joshua came to the Police Department to assist with questions we had concerning CCTV camera placement. He left and returned with two cameras for us to visually inspect and explained in detail how they worked and their limitations. He was not asked to do this. He did this to provide the best quality service.

She was able to get a history course sub approved for me and a few others after a class issue  that was the last requirement before our professional block.

Ronshanda Perkins, Accounting and Procurement

I lost my phone and didn’t realize it until closing time. I was frantic. Then I was so relieved to find out that someone had turned it in to University PD.  I found out later that Ronshanda Perkins found my phone. She is a fairly new employee and not quite sure what to do, so she took it to Karin Barber who then turned it into the University PD. I am so thankful to have the opportunity to work with such honest and goodhearted people. Thank you so much!!!

Courtney was great at organizing the staff including custodians, movers, carpenters, etc. She was very helpful, and I don't know what we would have done without an employee like Courtney who "gets the job done" completely. The plant operations staff was also very nice and did an excellent job cleaning the house and organizing the furniture. Thank you so much, Courtney.

Joann has gone above and beyond for Campus Mail Services for years. She has always assisted me with any purchasing or procurement issues or questions. When I called her and asked if she could generate a Purchase Order, so I could pay an invoice, she did so without hesitation. She has always been courteous, professional, and timely with her assistance. A true asset to VSU.

David Pulliam, IT

Recently, Mr. Pulliam completed a project which designed an interface to easily allow us to export data from one system to another system. His efforts will be a huge time saver to all of our faculty! I appreciate the time he spends for longer-term systems planning, and when called upon, to handle emergency issues which may arise.

Ashley Williams, Creative Services

Thank you for helping me set up my professional blog and web page. Ashley is so knowledgeable, professional, and patient. I am excited about having my own professional blog and know I'll be asking for help from Ashley and others in the future.

Earnest Smith, Graduate Studies

While turning in my thesis, I needed an extra day since I was defending the day they were due to the graduate school. Mr. Smith went above and beyond in granting me that extension. Had he not, I would've had to extend into Fall semester for something that only took a few hours of work. Additionally, he has been extremely prompt and helpful in sending my edits. I am very thankful that people like him work at VSU.

Darius Anthony, Career Opportunities

Mr. Darius Anthony is the epitome of a team player. He genuinely embodies servitude to not only the student body, but to his team. Darius is a quick learner and is always willing to jump in to lend a hand whether it is apart of his "job description" or not. Darius is goal oriented, strategic and has a sincere desire to assist students understand the various opportunities Career Opportunities has to offer. Be it an internship, or experiential learning opportunity, Darius is committed to student engagement and helping prepare students awesome internships and post graduate opportunities.

Travis Nolley, IT

Joe has such a positive demeanor and willingness to answer my infinite IT questions. He has helped me create technological work efficiencies for myself and my area, which I will be forever grateful. He is always willing to provide service, functionality, and product information at the drop of a hat to help me grasp what it is we are purchasing and contracting for. During year end, Joe offered and provided assistance to Procurement during a very stressful and trying time. It is comforting to know that Joe is such a great team player; striving to achieve the best for VSU. Thank you, Joe!

Patrick McElwain, Registrar

Patrick is the best when it comes to scheduling issues. I email him nearly every single day with a new adjustment that needs to be corrected in Banner, and he never hesitates to make the changes; nor does he make me feel bad for asking repeatedly. In fact, Patrick handles my requests with a pleasant attitude and almost always a funny joke or quip. I would be lost without him!

Kristina Piper-Osorio, Human Resources

Kristina has been kind and caring during my medical leave and showed me how a professional can be loyal to our organization. Thank you.

Adrian Taylor, IT

I want to say many thanks to Adrian for all he's done lately to assist me and my office. He's been there at a moment’s notice to fix projectors, sound equipment, etc. for many training events. He also went out of his way to reorganize the setup of my desktop and varidesk simply because he saw all the wires, and knew a better way to allow for a cleaner workplace. One that's better organized and so much more efficient. THANK YOU for all of the service excellence moments.

Emily Day, IT

I want to say thank you to Emily for assisting in the reconfiguration of my office desktop. She went out of her way to reorganize the setup of my desktop and varidesk to allow for a cleaner work space with less wires, and I'm very appreciative. Thank you for performing a much-needed service without me even having to ask for it. You're awesome!

Katrina Crumpton, Housing and Residence Life

Katrina was AMAZING in helping us fix a mistake on our marketing material that was included in the new student bags. She was calm, accommodating, and spent a lot of time brainstorming the most efficient way to fix this problem. I appreciate her being a calming force during my stressful moment! Thanks Katrina!

Michael Stalvey, Human Resources

Michael guided me through posting an emergency position through PeopleAdmin. It might not seem like much, but all the other staff in my office who knew how to navigate PeopleAdmin just happened to be on vacation that day. When I called Michael at 2:45pm on a Friday afternoon he was patient, kind, and knowledgeable (and lightning fast!). I am grateful for the help and positive attitude.

Mat Davidson, IT

My desktop computer was having an abundance of issues. Mat was super-fast at figuring out what was wrong and getting my computer back to me with an upgrade. I found out his wife works in a local school system, and we had a terrific conversation about education while he hooked everything back up to check it. I appreciated his expertise and the connection we made! We have amazing people working at VSU.

Ansley Alvis, IT

Ansley was helping Mat Davidson with my computer yesterday, and we ended up having a fascinating conversation about students at VSU. We talked about how we could better connect with the local school systems, and how we could leverage data analytics to help retention. I found out she is majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Women's and Gender Studies--a pretty cool combo! I realized that all the info we got at Convocation needs to be communicated to our student assistants so they can participate, too. Great to meet you, Ansley!

Destaney Velez-Sutton, Parking and Transportation

I went into the Parking and Transportation office to apply for a Medical pass, and before processing any of the paperwork Destaney asked if she could pray for me.  I had been having a rough week, and this small act of kindness on Destaney's part brightened my day more than she'll ever know.  I'm very thankful for her service at Parking and Transportation.  She also performed her duties in a very timely and polite manner.

Mike Knight, Plant Operations

I called Mike at 7:45am needing a twenty foot banner hung on the outside of the entrance to University Center-North. I was not aware of this until 7:30am on Move-In Day for 1,900 incoming students. He had Steve and Bucky come right over at 8:00am to hang the banner before students started arriving for check-in at 9:00am. The banner was longer than the hangers so more had to be installed in a moment’s notice.  Many thanks since everyone is stretched thin right now! He also helped me get a new master key after I bent mine. He asked Ben to cut a new one and bring it to me at the University Center!  That was an awesome help to me since my long hours this week have kept me from going down to Plant to get a new one.  Thank you so much!!!!

Steve Fesler, Plant Operations

I needed a twenty foot banner hung on the outside of the entrance to University Center-North. I was not aware of this until 7:30am on Move-In Day for 1,900 incoming students. Steve came right over at 8:00am to hang the banner before students started arriving for check-in at 9:00am. The banner was longer than the hangers so more had to be installed in a moment’s notice.  Many thanks since everyone is stretched thin right now!  Thank you so much!!!!

Bucky Carter, Plant Operations

I needed a twenty foot banner hung on the outside of the entrance to University Center-North. I was not aware of this until 7:30am on Move-In Day for 1,900 incoming students. Bucky came right over at 8:00am to hang the banner before students started arriving for check-in at 9:00am. The banner was longer than the hangers so more had to be installed in a moment's notice. Many thanks since everyone is stretched thin right now! Thank you so much!!!!

Ben McCranie , Plant Operations

I bent my master key yesterday, and I have not had time to go get a new one made at Plant. Ben made me a new one and brought it to me this morning!!!  Many thanks since everyone is stretched thin right now!  Thank you so much!!!!

Ebony Resurreccion, Communication Arts

This past week, I have been working with faculty to prepare a presentation for new students that involved a game with prizes. Unfortunately, the idea for this game did not come up until a few days before the presentation. When I asked Ebony about ideas for prizes she called around to different departments in search of VSU prizes to give away to students who were one of the top three winners of the game. Within a couple of hours she had multiple prizes available for us to use, and she quickly communicated her progress along the way. This is only one example of Ebony's tremendous service to the department for faculty, staff, and more importantly, students. The Department of Communication Arts appreciates her amazing work!

Ronshonda Perkins, Financial Services

Ronshanda has shown me what service and hard work is all about. She was very friendly and very helpful. As a new member of the VSU community, her work ethic is exemplary and her personal care is worth the highest of recognition. Thank you for helping me with my travel reimbursement. Keep up the great work!

Regina Lee, Human Resources

Regina is my go to in Human Resources. She always answers the phone willing to help. She helps get answers to my questions if I don't know who to contact. She is always friendly, efficient, and truly wants to help! We need more Regina Lees on campus!!!!

Rosemary Sirmans, Creative Services

Rosemary worked patiently with me the last 3 weeks getting seven invitations and four passes designed to perfection! Even when I called with one more change she was so friendly and always more than willing to help. Many times I don't have much notice on getting invitations and programs designed, and she never tells me that she can't do it. We need more Rosemary Sirmans on our campus!

Amanda Hoch, Event Services

Amanda has not even been on staff for a full month and has hit the ground running likes she's worked here for years. She jumped in and helped pull off one of the craziest weeks of the year for our department without much time for training and a slim student staff. We’ve had President’s Convocation, CPC Recruitment, Move-In, New Student Convocation, hiring/coordinating Blaze, and getting ready for student training! I kept waiting for her to walk out, and she has kept a big smile on her face! We are so lucky to have her!

Sydney Land, Event Services

Sydney is overseeing Event Services changeover in our scheduling software this summer. This means weekly meetings, hours in the lab, and conference calls. She’s had many late nights of designing, entering spaces and resources on campus, and planning processes so we can make this switch easy for everyone. This will be a big change for our campus that has come quickly. Sydney is working long hours to make this happen while major campus events have still been taking place (Orientation, President’s Convocation, New Student Convocation,  CPC Recruitment, athletic camps, Move-in, etc.) all with a limited summer staff. This has been the busiest summer ever, and she has been a real trooper! I am so fortunate to have her on our team!

Leah Robinson, Event Services

Leah stepped up this summer as we have been without an Event Coordinator for most of the summer and Special Events Coordinator as of June. She has been working long hours to keep us on track while helping with the Event Services scheduling software changeover this summer. This means weekly meetings, hours in the lab, conference calls, entering spaces/resources for University Center, and planning processes. She’s been doing all of this while still running The University Center for daily events, big community rentals, and major campus events for the opening of school. This has been the busiest summer ever, and she has been there every step of the way with a big smile on her face! I am so fortunate to have her as a part of our awesome team!

Vincent Miller, Student Affairs

Growing up, I was often told that I don't matter and that I'm not worth caring about or helping. Events at another college made that notion rather concrete. Dr. Miller led a team from student affairs, volunteer services, and the counseling center that took a jack hammer to the notion. With their help I was able to overcome personal and financial problems in order to graduate. Dr. Miller continues to help, even after graduation, by serving as a job reference and mentor. Thanks to him and his team I now want to work in student affairs. Thank you, Dr. Miller.

Carla Gervin, LCOBA

Ms. Gervin is always there when I need her. She helps in situations even if they have nothing to do with her. She has kept me in a good spirit, and she is just an overall good person to be around. I thank her for all the help and encouragement she gives.

Daryl Moore, LCOBA Technical Unit

Daryl was instrumental in making sure that LCOBA was ready to go for Freshman Orientation. Two hundred new business students filled the auditorium on Friday and had no idea just how much behind the scenes work had been done to make sure their orientation was the best it could be! Daryl always does this and everything else with a smile. Daryl is a pleasure to work with.

Madeleine Hardage, LCOBA Technical Unit

Madeleine works so hard on a daily basis, but truly shines when we are preparing for an event that requires technology. She worked diligently to make sure that LCOBA was prepared for Freshman Orientation and did it all with a smile! She is truly a pleasure to work with and has been a dedicated member of our team.

Andrew Russell, LCOBA Technical Unit

Andrew was a key member in the planning process for our Freshman Orientation on Friday. He demonstrated patience while working with staff and faculty to prepare for the event. Even though all equipment was tested and ready to go before the event, Andrew was ready to handle any issues for our team. He did a great job at resolving problems, and our event turned out great! Andrew is a pleasure to work with and is a great member of our team.

Suzanne Smith, LCOBA Technical Unit

Suzanne was very helpful in preparation for the 2018-19 Freshman Orientation. She played a significant role in making sure that all equipment was functioning and ready for presentation for our new students. She works well with our faculty and staff. She is an important member of our team.

Jeremy Tannenbaum, LCOBA Technical Unit

Jeremy was very helpful in preparation for the 2018-19 Freshman Orientation. He played a significant role in making sure that all equipment was functioning and ready for presentation for our new students. He works well with our faculty and staff. He is an important member of our team.

Brian Anderson, LCOBA Technical Unit

Brian is the backbone of the Langdale College of Business when it comes to IT. In preparation for our Freshman Orientation, Brian led the team in making sure that all of our equipment was working efficiently. Even though the equipment was checked ahead of time, he was ready for any issues that could happen and was prepared to calmly handle them. He did this with patience and focus. By the time the kids arrived we were ready to go. His demeanor is beneficial to the faculty, staff, and his student employees. He does a great job every day and is a pleasure to work with!

Barbara Scott, Custodial Services

Barbara is doing an exceptional job cleaning for Biology! For example, she noticed that the drainage pan next to the biology department sink was dirty, and she cleaned it for us. I don't think it had been cleaned in 10 years. Also, the kitchenette and bathroom areas are cleaner than they have been in years. Her attention to detail really adds up and makes our space more comfortable to work. I am not the only one who has noticed. Thank you, Barbara!

Jeremy Hardin, New Media Center

I hosted two sessions of Graduate Assistant Orientation in Odum library, and I needed the equipment and services that are offered by the New Media Center (e.g., easel rental, printing/copying services) in order for the orientation to run smoothly. Jeremy made sure that the equipment rental process and all other requests that I had were completed effortlessly. He did so with a smile on his face and a great attitude! Even when I requested services that the NMC did not offer, he went out of his way to make sure all of my request were taken care of. When he saw that I needed additional assistance to carry the equipment he offered his helping hand!  Thanks for the great experience with the NMC. Keep up the exceptional customer service!

Lavonna Lovern, Philosophy and Religion

Dr. Lovern is an exceptional instructor. She is always patient, kind, and compassionate. She has been the most amazing teacher I have ever had in my lifetime, and I am a "senior citizen" going to VSU so I have plenty of "Age and Wisdom” at my doorstep. She makes her classes informative, knowledgeable, and also enjoyable. I have learned about diversity, culture, and accepting worldwide beliefs of culture and religions with open arms and an open mind. She has been a mentor for me to see the world differently with eyes, ears, heart, and mind wide open. Dr. Lovern's teaching keeps me focused and grounded in such a balanced way that struggle is recognized as a learning process which leaves depression easier to handle through daily life. She is totally AMAZING.

Catherine Wills, Humans Resources

Catherine helped me remember how worthwhile it is to pay into our benefits as faculty and staff at VSU. Thank you.

Sierra Freeman, Financial Aid

She went behind the scenes to make a time consuming process much quicker. We had very little wait time, and she was a very pleasant person to deal with. She is an asset to the school!

Jacob Jones, Financial Services

Thank you Jacob for organizing your schedule to help me during this week, for offering help, and for supporting me while the department had no student assistants due to vacation time. Your help was deeply appreciated, and your initiative to help shows how devoted you are!

Beverly Amiot, Financial Services

I want to thank Ms. Beverly for offering her help innumerous times during this week. I was alone at the front desk while the student assistants were out. Moreover, I want to extend my most sincere appreciation to Ms. Beverly for her exemplary professionalism and outstanding customer service. During the past two years I have seen how Ms. Beverly helps everyone by being detail oriented and deeply caring for everyone. I am very grateful for all she has taught me, helped me with, and guided me through. Ms. Beverly reflects everything VSU stands for, and it is an honor to work with such an amazing professional. I am forever grateful for all you have done for me.

John Wicker, Central Warehouse

John delivered 25 cases of copy paper, and he went beyond his duty to deliver by offering to stack them on top of cabinets for us. We are very grateful for your help and amazing willingness to go above and beyond always. Thank you.

Angela Cooper, Palms Dining

Ms. Cooper always greets me with a warm welcome whenever I come to Palms Dining. I want to thank her for her kindness and dedication to VSU and Palms Dining!

Andrew Harper, New Media Center

Andrew Harper helped me find what I was looking for and was really nice to me.

Mark McNalley, Housing and Residence Life

I just wanted to give a shout out to Mark for all of his hard work on move-in day. Mark worked very hard to make sure everything went well for every new freshman living on campus. Even when things didn't go exactly as planned he kept his cool and carried on. He did a great job taking on a task most people would run from. Good job Mark!

Sandra Barrios, Budgeting Services

Ms. Barrios was a tremendous help to me during a recent paycheck mishap.  While the outcome was not as favorable as I had desired, she always responded promptly, professionally, and patiently to any message I sent to her. She was very informative, empathetic, and reassuring during each transaction that occurred. She modeled exemplary customer service skills throughout this entire situation. That is always important, but especially when you are dealing with someone's paycheck!

Doug Jordan, IT

Doug has gone above and beyond to make sure that I have a working device to stay connected with students and faculty. It seems like every desktop, laptop, etc. that I have been working on the past couple of weeks has decided to have issues, crash, start talking back, or to having no sound at all. Doug has been there to save the day each time something has gone wrong. Thank you Doug for your amazing service to the COEHS!

Susan Jones, Plant Services

Susan provided exceptional customer service throughout CPC Recruitment as we had several issues in the building with air conditioning and electrical outages. Susan promptly answered the phone each time I called and provided helpful information with a pleasant attitude. We are so thankful for her hard work and dedication to providing excellent service in any condition. Thank you Susan!!

Brian Roberts, Student Union Operating

After a student misplaced her book bag, it had mistakenly found its way into the trash.  After the student realized what had happened, Mr. Roberts tracked down where the book bag should have been.  Unfortunately, the book bag found its way into the Student Union's trash compactor.  Mr. Roberts did not hesitate to open up the compactor and dig around inside until the student's belongings were found.

Sharon Powell, Student Transportation

She is always friendly and asks how your day was. I think she does everything that it takes to make sure she is doing her job right. She is passionate about her job.

Carl Bennett, Dining Services

Carl is one of the nicest individuals I've ever met in my time in Valdosta State University. He is a great individual and I appreciate his dedication to the school. He is a role model. I always think of him as being someone who has compassion. He deserves respect and notice for coming to work during the good days and bad!

Jessie Whitten, Library

Jessie volunteered to stay late to help with the library’s Fall Explosion event.  Jessie’s help was essential in helping the event run smoothly. It would have been impossible to have a trivia event without our awesome graders.  We appreciated her willingness to help out with a variety of tasks.  Thank you for helping to make our event a success!

Robert Taylor, Library

Robert volunteered to stay late to help with the library’s Fall Explosion event.  Robert’s help was essential in helping the event run smoothly.  It would have been impossible to have a trivia event without our awesome graders. We appreciated Robert's willingness to help out with a variety of tasks.  Thank you for helping to make our event a success!

Michael Holt, Library

Michael volunteered to stay late to help with the library’s Fall Explosion event.  His help was essential in helping the event run smoothly. In addition, Michael went out of his way to help with some last-minute event planning snafus. Thank you for helping to make our event a success!

Barbara Scott, Custodial Services

Ms. Barbara Scott has been a godsend to our department. She has been taking extra care and paying special attention to our custodial needs. You can tell when she been through the offices cleaning because it smells so nice after she finishes. She always checks in this department when she gets temporarily moved to another building to assist in cleaning it. She has cleaned things that have not been cleaned in years such as our sinks, dish drainers, and office floor mats for all of the offices. This is all in the addition to the normal cleaning. Honestly, she has done more than any other custodian that we have had for the past ten plus years. She even left me her personal cell number just in case we need anything. That to me is above and beyond the call of duty. We appreciate her and wanted to show it. Thank you Ms. Barbara Scott for all you do. You are appreciated!

Miranda Edmonds, eLearning

Thank you so much for helping me get the new Intro to Psych book linked up with blazeview!!

Kathy Barker, Custodial Services

Kathy goes above and beyond in making sure the Fine Arts Building is kept clean and presentable. We host many events and have hundreds of students, faculty, and patrons in our building every week. We are always assured that Kathy will make sure we are shining as best as we can. Thank You Kathy!

Brenda Johnson, Student Diversity and Inclusion

Ms. Johnson offered to take the Office of Student Affairs mail to the VSU Campus Mail office since she was already on her way to the office. I was very grateful for this, and I wanted to make sure she gets recognized for it.

Ashley Cooper, Employee Development

Thank you Ashley for helping me the other day. You were so helpful by looking up my check stub for my landlord. Your department is always so nice, and you make VSU a better place.

Alan Rowe, Police Department

Chief Rowe was kind and helpful even though he was extremely busy. He took the time to help me and communicated in a positive way with both my son and myself on a very chaotic day. It really made a big difference! I so appreciated his cheerful and helpful attitude!

James Nelson, Custodial Services

A week ago, I nearly had a meltdown because I could not find my coffee. James, our new building custodian, was not only sweet enough to help me find some coffee, but the next morning he left a note on my chair wishing me a good day with an extra K-Cup. James is the model employee who truly exhibits what it means to go above and beyond. Thank you so much James!

Caleb Jordan, Student Advising

Thank you for helping me get back into school. You've motivated me to keep a positive outlook on a tough situation. Both you and Dr. Rubin have really made me feel like I have someone in my corner.

Barbara Scott, Custodial Services

Ms. Scott has been doing an excellent job of keeping the biology department clean. Biologists can be a messy lot, and she has been very patient with us. She goes beyond expectations and takes care of things one would not expect. It is a nice change of pace to come in every morning and have things smelling fresh. Ms. Scott is very kind and is usually the first person I talk to on campus in the mornings, we are very lucky to have her.

Marco Colasito, IT

I would like to give a "shout out" to Marco Colasito for his OUTSTANDING service to Campus Mail Services.  We were having an issue getting a DYMO printer installed and working.  Marco made at least three trips to assist us. Not one time did he show frustration or lack of patience with us or the situation.  As I said earlier, he displayed nothing but outstanding customer service.  Thank you very much Marco and VSU IT!!!!

I do appreciate her time and giving spirit. She was very timely, confident, and professional. Again, thanks for your time and knowledge.

Chasity Wood, Parking and Transportation

Chasity has always been more than polite to scatter-brained faculty (like myself) when dealing with VSU vehicle reservations. She goes out of her way to make sure all details are correct and several times has opened the office early or stayed late to make sure we can get a VSU car checked in or out. It is a pleasure to work with her.

James Jenkins, Custodial Services

Mr. James has been a tremendous help to our department during a recent room transformation. His joyful attitude, bright spirit and eagerness to help makes Nevins Hall a better place. We are so thankful for him and all of his efforts!

Catherine Bowers, Library

Catherine provided exceptional service to several classes this semester and really helped out with a doctoral class. She is very positive, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful to our students.

Kyle Culpepper, New Media Center

A few of us had thought a training was two days, but was only one day.  We showed up the second day and after a few minutes Kyle came in to let us know our mistake.  We still had a few questions about some computer information and he sat down and ran us through the program. He then took the time to answer several other computer questions having nothing to do with the training.  He was kind, professional, and extremely helpful. I really appreciated his willingness to help where he could, especially since what we needed wasn't related to his department. I look forward to working with him in the future.

Kyle Culpepper, New Media Center

I was lost about progressing forward on the computer and he gave me a demonstration and clear direction. I greatly appreciate his help.

Nick Harrison, Admissions Office

Nick is a regional recruiter for the Admissions Office.  He does an exceptional job recruiting to our local school systems and making sure their students are knowledgeable about Valdosta State University. He is always willing to travel to other parts of the recruiting area as well and always does a great job. When schools request a school-recruiting visit, Nick is always quick to respond setting up dates in which to visit with their students.  We are very lucky to have such a caring and professional young man representing VSU!

Evan Fondren, Student Life

Evan has done a wonderful job with the switching over of the new reservations system. He has not only gone above and beyond helping on the weekends while working long hours, but is also helping other faculty with integrating the new system. He is amazing at what he does, and he does not go unnoticed.

Jamae Flint, Finance & Administration

Jamae has been so incredibly helpful with several payroll issues we have experienced. She is so quick to respond and take care of things in a professional manner. I know that whenever I have an issue she will quickly take care of it with no complaints! Having as many student employees as we do, it is critical that we have good communication with our payroll department. I am so appreciative of all of the help Jamae has given by getting issues fixed for us!

Walker Lee, Sociology

I passed Mr. Lee working extremely hard to help an elderly woman. He has such a big heart.

Bailey Raffield, IT

My Dropbox had moved to a location on my computer I couldn't access, and there was no sound on my computer. I had tried typical solutions as had some colleagues.  I gave Bailey remote access to my computer, and he fixed both problems as if they were no big deal. He made my life better. Thanks so much.

Keith Watson, Automation

It is awesome to work with a team who can help isolate technical issues within various programs and systems. Keith Watson is one of my go-to people for very technical issues that are library oriented. He has assisted me on multiple occasions to resolve issues revolving around ALMA implementation and policy changes for our area. He never says "no, I can't do that." Rather, he states: "What do you want ALMA to do? I will do my best to make it happen." He is someone I greatly appreciate for the hours of time that he has put into the circulation system to better fit media equipment loans into the mold of a tool designed primarily for book circulation.

Michael Holt, New Media Center

It is awesome to work with a team who can help isolate technical issues within various programs and systems. Michael Holt is one of my go-to people for very technical issues that are library oriented. He has assisted me on multiple occasions to resolve issues like setting up a data analytics reporting feature in ALMA needed for Loan Circulation data and also with getting a better grasp on python coding for obtaining accurate door counts when our counter went down. This kind of stuff can take days or weeks to figure out for someone at my current level of experience. It is great knowing we have talented staff like Michael Holt, who cares about each department internally here at Odum Library.

Honey Coppage, Academic Affairs

The construction noise in West Hall caused two faculty members to request new classrooms. I sent a request to Honey Coppage, who found new rooms, got the rooms changed in Banner, and let us know about the change. This occurred all within a week. Ms. Coppage is efficient and helpful, which is greatly appreciated during this noisy phase of West Hall life.

CoA Advising Staff, University Advising

The College of the Arts would like to personally thank Alicia Roberson, Elizabeth Ellinburg, and Kristen Jowers for all the time, dedication, and support they have given to our college.  Each of these ladies are remarkably proficient, professional, and courteous in handling questions/concerns from our faculty and staff. They are exceptionally remarkable when it comes to engaging with our students. They are all outstanding in every aspect, and we are truly grateful for all they do for the College of the Arts.

Adrian Taylor, IT

I am using academic software for my courses in the Biology Computer Lab that has to be periodically updated, and Adrian has been extremely helpful in making sure that the software is installed in timely manner. I really appreciate that he has allowed me to contact him rather than having to go through the helpdesk each time. Thank you for the excellent service Adrian.

Joseph Newton, IT

I recently ordered a laptop computer from IT, and upon reviewing the order Joseph let me know that I could get a more powerful computer that better suited my needs for a small change in price.  I appreciate that we have people like Joseph in IT at VSU that are taking good care of us academics.

Darius Anthony, Career Opportunities

Thank you, Darius, for your dedication, professionalism, and exemplary customer service. You have mastered Brief-Case, and you make it so easy for us to understand it. Your support is deeply appreciated.

Leroy Trower, Work Study

Thank you for your support and professionalism in assisting with the work students. I appreciate how you handled the process with us the other day. Your guidance and mentoring the students has been wonderful. You've helped them improve their skills and understanding of the workforce.

Lance Cruz, Police Department

Officer Cruz was very kind by providing me with information regarding some traffic laws and parking around our department. He took the time to verify the location in order to provide me with the correct information. Thank you for all you do to help all of us on campus.

Sonja Wright-Smith, Access Center

Sonja was very professional in helping me by  answering questions about departmental standards and services the Access Center offers. I am very pleased with the service.

Erica Chaviano, Housing and Residence Life

Erica is always a pleasure to work with on campus wide events, but we were especially grateful for her participation in the Counseling Center's recent suicide awareness event, "Suicide: The Ripple Effect." She participated on a panel where she openly discussed the topic of suicide and her related perspectives, which is not an easy thing to do. She participated on a panel where she openly discussed the topic of suicide and shared insight for the students in attendance on the matter. It is really great to have a mascot that supports every aspect of this institution, from athletics to academics and beyond. Thank you!

Nicolas Cecchini, Employee and Organizational Development

I serve as an advisor for VSU's chapter of Sigma Alpha Pi: The National Society of Leadership and Success, and Nick very generously gave up his Saturday morning to help train a group of my students in finding their life's purpose. The students really seemed to respond to him, and this was evident by their willingness to participate in the discussion. Our organization is committed to building leaders who make a better world and helping our members discover and achieve their goals. We could not do that without the support of people like Nick.

Bobby Flowers, Physical Plant - Landscape and Grounds

We had a staff member's mother pass away.  He is the sole person in charge of the media production for VSU-TV during the games in our department. We were not able to plan for him being out that day so we had to think fast and reach out to Monica Haynes and her team. We told her that we were in desperate need for someone to assist us in hauling a vehicle and trailer from the Mass Media building to the football field and back. Monica called me back the next day and was able to give me Bobby's name and personal cell phone number as point of contact for the weekend. I want to thank him for stepping up and giving us his Saturday that he could have spent doing something else. His selfless efforts show his commitment to the University, and we want to make sure that it does not go without notice. Thank you for assisting us when we needed it most. Your contribution to our department was not just moving a trailer, because it helped provide a media outlet for the VSU football team and everyone involved.

We are very grateful to her for coming out on a Saturday morning and sharing her wisdom with us.

Shelby helped me with some complicated paperwork late on a Friday. She was efficient, courteous, and knowledgeable. Shelby made the experience a delight. VSU should be very proud of her  professionalism.

Vincent Miller, Student Affairs

Dr. Miller came to the Haunted Trail and helped a student that got hurt on the trail. Dr. Miller also stayed and worked the entire night. I was unable to be there because I was recovering from a concussion. My team and I greatly appreciated his assistance while I was out of action because of both a car wreck and issues with my daughter being in the hospital. The Campus Rec team thanks Dr. Miller for stepping in and helping our department.

Tanya Wineland, COEHS Academic Adviser

When I emailed Tanya at 6:53 in the morning regarding a situation with registration, I did not expect my issue to be dealt with so fast. She had everything resolved that morning with a very cheerful disposition. She definitely went above and beyond to help me.

Cathy Sowa, IT

I am a new addition to the VSU family. There have been a few times that I've had computer issues that required some research and quite a bit of time to fix. When these issues occur, I've always been able to count on Cathy to help me get these issues resolved. She takes her time to truly understand my problems, and she allows follows up to make sure that everything is running smoothly after the fact.  I'm very grateful for all of Cathy's help and patience!

From start to finish, she consistently provides top quality services and assistance through the process of applying for and paying off loans. I have never had a more positive experience with a VSU department, and I am so thankful for her help!

Cathy Sowa, IT

I recently got a new computer and a few of the programs I need to perform my job did not make it over. Cathy devoted her entire day to researching and understanding the many complexities of how to get the program onto my computer. She also came over and spent a large amount of time installing the program onto my machine and making sure it was functioning properly so our applicants did not experience a disruption in being accepted. Our campus is extremely fortunate to have great support from dedicated people like Cathy Sowa!

Kristen Jowers, College of the Arts Advising Center

Kristin attended our Let's Get Registered! program for first-year students. She came in at 6:30 am in order to participate in the program. She was not required to attend, but she chose to come in to help support our first-year students with their first solo registration. She was able to help students register, and she answered questions that no one else could answer. This is evidence of her dedication to our students and her colleagues.

Jonathan Schultz, University Police

Officer Schultz was very accommodating in helping with a student in need. He was very pleasant and made the student feel calm and comfortable considering the challenging nature of the situation. It is always nice to have the support of UPD, and the work that our officers do is much appreciated. Thank you for your support, Officer Schultz!

Ebony Resurreccion, Communication Arts

Ebony assisted me tremendously by walking me through how to navigate the new online room reservation system (EMS). I called Ebony frantically hoping to reserve a room and I was unsure which room/times I wanted to reserve. Ebony went above and beyond the call of duty by showing me how to utilize this new reservation system. Not only was I able to reserve a room, but I feel very confident about how to make room reservations in the future. Thank you Ebony for taking the extra time to assist me with this. You are invaluable to the Communication Arts Department.

Noel Valdez, New Media Center

Noel took responsibility into her own hands without a supervisor present. She was able to alleviate an issue a patron was having with their project. She worked tirelessly to make sure the project was completed in full. She made a great executive decision that prevented us from loosing money as well. I am proud of her keen awareness and attention to details concerning our patron's projects.

Daniel Oppel, Creative Services

Although I have years of graphic design experience behind me, I learn something from Daniel Oppel almost everyday. Daniel has shown me many "tricks" that make my work more efficient and less time-consuming. Daniel has a good eye for detail and is great at his job in VSU Creative Services.

Beth Tate, Creative Services

As I'm always trying to learn new things, I was attempting to animate a Christmas card for a department at VSU. Animation is not part of my daily job as graphic designer. I learned a lot in my attempt, but I just couldn't get the final product the way I envisioned. I asked Beth Tate for some help. She took what I created and made it BEAUTIFUL and MAGICAL!

Nicolas Cecchini, Employee and Organizational Development

EOD's graduate assistant Nicolas Cecchini is the epitome of the "I Caught You Caring" program. An hour before I was scheduled to run an important faculty development program with department heads,  a Skillsoft video was not loading. I needed to show that video to frame my program. VSU's IT technicians tried to fix the problem but determined it was an issue with the vendor instead. So Nicholas immediately called Skillsoft to report the problem and requested it be fixed ASAP for VSU. When the vendor said they couldn't confirm when the video would load properly, this is when Nicolas went above and beyond to help me: thinking critically and acting quickly, Nicolas searched for other vides on YouTube about the same topic and shared the web links with me via e-mail. He left me a detailed voice mail about the content of the videos and reached me by phone not long after to offer additional assistance. This is not the first time that Nicolas has gone out of his way to help me, and he has done so with the utmost care and professionalism. VSU is very lucky to have Nicolas as a graduate assistant in EOD.

Kyle Culpepper, New Media Center

Kyle was very helpful in reformatting our study abroad excel workbooks. The excel workbooks were password protected in 2007 and  we could not edit the workbooks. Kyle stepped up and offered to help. Kyle assisted with copying the formulas and reformatting the workbooks. We use the excel workbooks daily to maintain our study abroad financial data. We now have the flexibility to revise the workbooks as needed. Thanks Kyle!

Melody Fuller, Middle Grades Education

Melody Fuller put in an exceptional amount of effort to help me with my placements for my apprenticeship. The placement I had before made me feel like I wasn't destined to become a teacher. When Ms. Fuller became aware of this she and several other professors rallied together to find a more conducive environment for my apprenticeship. I'm now at the best possible placement area, and I couldn't be happier. She didn't have to exert the extra effort to change my placement, but she did anyway. So for that, I believe that Melody Fuller should be recognized for the behind-the-scenes acts that she does for her students.

Karen Rubin, COEHS Advising Center

Karen Rubin in the COEHS advising center has worked day and night to find the appropriate course for my students as we are preparing them for the new revised standards for their field. I don’t know what we’d do with out her.

Dr. Ron Stunda, Langdale College of Business

I would like to recognize Dr. Ron Stunda's commitment to student success by being a great adviser, teacher, and mentor. I've taken Dr. Stunda for many classes, and his quality of teaching has been second-to-none. As a future alumni, I credit much of my success to him. He is a great faculty member at Valdosta State who deserves to be recognized.

Librarian Live Chat

I am a doctoral student. Over the past couple of weeks I have had several written assignments due, and the VSU Librarian Live Chat feature has been my saving grace! They have helped me find doi numbers, properly cite difficult sources, and complete an online scavenger hunt. Last night, when they couldn't find the answer to my citation question, they said they would research it and get back to me via email! This is service above and beyond. I truly appreciate each and every person who works the Library Live Chat desk! Thank you!

Diana Studstill, Bursary

Ms. Studstill shows on a daily basis how much she cares about her job and the people she works with. She is always eager to help and answer any questions I have even when I ask the same question multiple time. She always has a smile on her face, and she is truly a joy to be around.

Heidi Browning, University Police

Sgt. Browning went above and beyond assisting a student who had become sick. She was able to help the student stand up, calm down and even put the student's hair up. She remained with the student until  the student's roommate was able to get her home.

Sonya Sanderson, KSPE

Sonya Sanderson is one of the most energetic and upbeat professionals I have ever met. On Nov. 10th, COEHS held an Alumni Tailgate event that was spearheaded by Dean Oliver. Sonya was the contact person for this outstanding day that started long before the set-up time of 9 AM. The event brought multiple generations of COEHS staff, faculty, and alum together prior to the Blazer's season finale football game. Sonya is an incredible cheerleader for VSU- especially for COEHS. She has an exceptional way of engaging others in projects with invitation, encouragement, and sincere appreciation. The enthusiasm she demonstrates as a leader in the COEHS is exemplary, and she follows through with dedication, professionalism, and leading by example. Her energy is palpable and ALWAYS contagious. Sonya puts hard work into making her department, college, and university shine. She does this through outstanding professional relationships with her immediate faculty and staff which extends to all members of the COEHS and VSU faculty. She is a pleasure to work with and an excellent co-author. The respect held for her by others is obvious. Her exhaustive work on this event was just another fun opportunity to see Sonya at her VSU best. Sonya made our College sparkle as the COEHS gathered to play a part in this history-making Blazer win. Her attitude, exuberance, and enthusiasm at VSU events demonstrates the outstanding team-player Sonya is. She inspires those around her to be their best. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with such an outstanding, respectful, and admired colleague.

Jennifer Griffin, Bursary

Ms. Griffin is a Financial Adviser for the University Bursary. I initially met Ms. Griffin through my interest in getting a short term loan for the Summer 2015. I used this resource often throughout my undergraduate career. It was a tool that afforded me the opportunity to continue my education. My experiences overtime with Ms. Griffin became considerably positive. Ms. Griffin really showed she cared during Fall 2017. During that period I had taken a short term loan to complete my last course in order to graduate. Unfortunately for me that time also came with many unforeseen circumstances; from losing my job and home, in addition to my drastic decrease in income. Although my troubles came, I endured and was some how able to move forward. After a year of continuous communication, I was finally able to deliver on my promise to Ms. Griffin. I thank her for giving me this opportunity to move forward in my endeavors. This moment will be cherished in my eyes forever. I believe Ms. Griffin deserves this recognition for her commitment to providing great service to the students at the Great Valdosta State! She is an outlet that many should not take for granted. Now that I have completed this task with the assistance of Ms. Griffin and Valdosta State University I am able to continue my pursuits in higher education. Thank you again for your exceptional service, Ms. Griffin. You truly deserve it!

Graham Nguyen, Creative Services

Graham gave lessons regarding the use of color while editing two sections of a media production course in the Mass Media program. Graham did a great job of answering student questions and providing tips to help them on their projects. It is always great to see alumni from the program, like Graham, give back to the program in this manner. We really appreciate his help and willingness to share his expertise and experience with students.

Dr. Darrell Fike, English

Dr. Fike is always a positive presence in the office. He went above and beyond and gave both my student worker and I a gift card for the holidays. How gracious and thoughtful!

Ronshanda Perkins, Financial Services

I would like to compliment Ronshanda Perkins on her excellent customer service! She was very patient with me while I was trying to understand the process of reimbursement for my lodging. The tone of her emails were very soft and not one time did I sense her becoming frustrated with me. I am certain that she is very busy; however, she took the time to make sure that all of my questions were answered! Service as such should not go unnoticed!

Rikki Hightower, Office of University Advising and Student Transitions

I was really moved when my colleague, Ms. Rikki Hightower, shared with me a situation she was trying to resolve with one of her student advisees who was having some financial challenges preventing him from registering for his classes. Ms. Hightower went above and beyond to help him. She contacted the right people and saw it through from beginning to end. I could determine that heart and passion were in her work, and she was doing everything in her power to retain this student at VSU. I am pleased that Ms. Hightower sees the potential in her students and recognizes their struggles. She dedicates her effort in not only advising students for classes but also in getting them additional resources they need in order to continue their program. She is making a valuable contribution to our mission at VSU.

Melody Fuller, Middle Grades Education

Ms. Melody Fuller allowed me to contact her regarding a problem that was taking place during student teaching. She was very open to discussing the matter and was very flexible with giving me opportunities to contact her. When we spoke she was very receptive and compassionate. She was on top of the issue and stayed in contact until it was resolved. I can't thank her enough for going out of her way to help me.

She always gave great feedback and advice regarding a multitude of topics. I am truly thankful for the amount of involvement she had in my student teaching experience.

Brook Bryant, Academic Support Center

Brook is a great tutor and does everything she can to make sure you get an A on your homework! She is wonderful at her job!

Weston Rogers, IT

Weston provided excellent service installing a new replacement computer in my office. He persisted to set up printing devices on a complicated system, and his attitude was pleasant and professional. Thank you!

Sydni Dozier, University Advising & Student Transitions

When I forgot my laptop power cord for orientation Sydni left her office to get a cord and brought it to me at the Union. She then had to return to work. It was so generous of Sydni to not only loan me the cord but to inconvenience herself to do it. I great appreciate her gesture.

Craig Williams, Plant- Key Shop

Our area needed to be secure but also accessible by staff and student techs, so we ordered a card swipe to be installed. Craig Williams and Ben McCraine were instrumental in our area getting this accomplished.  By "instrumental" I mean it wouldn't have happened so soon without their direct involvement. Craig showed a personal touch by staying on top of this project, and he kept me updated at every step. Thank you so much Craig and Ben for your hands-on approach and professionalism!

Kyle Culpepper, New Media Center

Kyle is always ready to lend a helping hand anytime we need him. On two occasions, Kyle helped us make a graphic for our organization. He always has a smile while answering any questions we have.

Office of Admissions

Officially titled the V-State Experience, unofficially "Rock Star City Tour", there are truly some phenomenal rock stars in Admissions who make these events happen! The admissions staff arrive at the venues before anyone else, and are always the last to leave. Not only are they responsible for the logistics before the events occur, but also setting up and breaking down the equipment on the day of the events. It is all done with a smile and positive attitude.  I just wanted to say to the Admissions Team and Staff....YOU ROCK!

John Evan Fondren, Student Life

Evan is always lending a helping hand. Whether it is for CAB or Campus life, he's always making sure he's getting the job done. Even if it's last minute, an emergency, or something out of his way he will help. Evan is the very definition of what you call going above and beyond. Evan went out of his way to purchase a movie for CAB's movie night when we had technical difficulties.

Marie Bradley, Palms

Every time I go to Palms I am greeted by a smile and pleasant conversation. Marie is always busy serving others and making sure even the littlest things are taken care of. There is no task too big or too small. She does everything with a great attitude and with great skill.

Garrett Castleman, New Media Center

Garrett was so very helpful to me these past few days! He was willing to try and accommodate every issue that I came across. His customer service, attitude, and helpfulness is exceptional! Thanks again for everything, Garrett.

Thank you Grayson for your excellent customer service in helping organize a last minute event with all the details needed. Your professionalism is exemplary, and I am grateful for all of your help.

Jeremy is awesome. He always has a pleasant attitude. He is very helpful and accountable. I would like to show my gratitude for his welcoming spirit.

Shonda Bryant, Human Resources

On 11/13/2018 I was having one of the worst days ever with the loss of my mother and issues with OneUSG. Ms. Bryant was very understanding and showed compassion with the situation. Thank you so much for going above and beyond.

Gerald Williams, Career Opportunities

During a particularly hectic day I was not going to be able to make it back to my office in order to get my wallet and get something to eat before my next appointment. I knew that I would be working all afternoon without another break. As I passed by the Career Opportunities lunchtime event I mentioned my situation to Gerald. He generously gave me a hot dog and bottle of water from the event he was sponsoring. I really would not have been able to make it through the rest of my afternoon without it. I can't thank him enough.

Jennifer Griffin, Bursary

Jennifer is so very helpful and pleasant. I needed to show that video to frame my program. Although I have not had the chance to meet her face to face, she has helped me on several different occasions to satisfy an outstanding debt and make payment arrangements via email. Her responses are both quick and efficient, and I feel she does her best to solve students issues. THANK YOU Jennifer!

Jennifer Griffin, Bursary

It's hard having your oldest child away at college especially hours away and in a different state. However, the sincere care for my daughter's finances is important to both the University and myself. Jennifer has made this experience comfortable for me as she replied back to phone calls and emails in a timely manner. She is always polite and willing to go the extra mile in answering any questions I may have concerning my daughter's financial responsibility. VSU is truly blessed to have a dedicated person working on their team. Kudos, Jennifer, for helping parents make sure their children receive the care and attention they need. Thank you.

Tobias Edwards, University Police

Officer Edwards went above and beyond by cleaning up a sick student’s mess by mopping the floor and wiping down surfaces when it was clearly not his job to do so! He always does exceptional work.

Sage Archer, Event Services

Every semester, Sage Archer manages to pull off miracles to make graduate and undergraduate Commencement ceremonies for all graduates and visitors one to remember. The intricacies of planning vendors, coordinating departments, predicting possible outcomes, and smoothing out hiccups are hidden by the pomp and circumstance of both successful ceremonies. Not many people see behind the scenes of Commencement. I also know that there is so much more Sage and her team do. Thank you, Sage (and team) for everything!

Michael Anderson, IT

I had an issue with the conversion to OneDrive and submitted a ticket. Michael responded quickly via phone and e-mail, giving me updates along the way. Not only did he solve my issue but he also offered additional suggestions on how to make my everyday work processes easier by using some software VSU has available.

Miranda Huff, Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs

I was trying to find an important piece of paperwork and Miranda helped me after talking to three other people. She was patient, kind, and helpful. Through her, I was able to find who had the form. She is awesome!

Carla Gervin, LCOBA

Ms. Gervin has provided excellent customer service and motivation to me as a former student. I am an alumni. During my job search, she has encouraged me to stay strong and positive. She instilled in me to never give up on myself and to always keep pushing forward. Because of her diligence in her job, she has put me on the path to success. I have been offered a full time position. Without her, it wouldn't have been possible. Thank you Ms. Gervin. I wish her a great career and much success.

Benjamin Elliot, IT Helpdesk

Ben patiently listened to me as I described the difficulties I was having with the newly-installed computer in my office. I was very concerned because I could not locate my files, and I did not know if I would be able to use the computer during the break to prepare materials for class. He kindly completed a work request for me, and also gave me an idea of when he thought someone would be able to check on the computer. He did a great job!!

Marco Colasito, IT

Marco Colasito contacted me about the need to replace the computer in my office, and he worked very efficiently to accomplish this task. What impressed me the most, however, was his quick response when he learned that I was having difficulties with the newly-installed computer. Toward the end of his work day, he took the time to call me and ask if it was a good time for him to take a look at the computer. He then came to my office and quickly corrected both problems. He did a great job throughout the process, and I appreciate his dedication!

Luis Gonzalez, LCOBA

He is an awesome professor. He made sure his students understood the material. I sent him multiple emails, and he answered quickly and precisely.

Megan Roach, Bursary

I needed help deciding how much my classes would cost so that I could take enough out in loans to cover. Megan was very nice, polite, and helped me right away by adding up all the fees. Thanks so much!

Dianne Wright, Adult Education

Dr. Wright welcomed me into the Master's program, and was very encouraging. She asked about my intentions after graduation and my experience in the field. She suggested the appropriate classes, and sent me my advising form in a timely manner. Sometimes starting school can be overwhelming, but I know I have made the right decision after speaking with her. I am very excited to begin my new program now.

Yvonne Landers, Finance and Administration

Yvonne has proven that teamwork definitely makes the dream work. She has shown me what it truly means to be a great employee. She is full of compassion and is a light on campus.

Regina Lee, Human Resources

She is absolutely one of the best employees ever at VSU. She is always willing to help others regardless of the situation. She treats everyone with compassion and respect.

Laura Pitts, Human Resources

Laura is amazing. She has been an encouragement to me at work. She is always willing to listen and understand the needs of everyone she comes in contact with. She is full of compassion and support.

Catherine Wills, Human Resources

Catherine is a pure joy to work with. She takes the time to listen to everyone and works hard to make the university a great place to work. She is always polite and shows compassion to everyone.

Michelle Jordan, Human Resources

Michelle is the glue that holds everything together. She truly embodies the spirit of compassion and teamwork. Michelle has been an amazing person while working at VSU. She truly is a light on campus.

Catherine Bowers, Library

Catherine provided web links that I would never have found by myself. Twice, she provided me with primary sources to use for a history course. Research and her actions helped me write an outstanding paper.
