Neal Culbreth, Student Financial Services

This is the second time he has helped me on coordinating student insurance and finances for my daughter. Besides working on initial questions or requests, he also follows up to make sure things worked out.

Sterlin Sanders, IT

On the evening of January 10th, after normal working hours, I found myself unable to log in to my VSU account. As a University Police Department Communications Officer the computer software we use is mission critical. We provide emergency services to the University 24 hours a day- 365 days a year. Shortly after I contacted the IT Help Desk and started working with their staff to resolve the issue Sterlin responded to our office, and within a few minutes he was able to bring us back to full functionality. Sterlin's expertise and positivity make him a greatly valued member of the university team and I am deeply thankful for his help.

Wade Bugby, IT

I had a series of computer issues on my desktop, tablet, and laptop computers recently. Wade was super nice and patient in helping me solving these issues. It took him hours of research, and he had to contact staff from other departments from time to time. He was very pleasant and helpful the whole time. From my experience in the past years, Wade always goes above and beyond his normal duty every time I seek his help. VSU is truly blessed to have a dedicated person like Wade working on their IT team. Thank you, Wade!

Cathy Sowa, IT

I had network access issue with my computers today. Cathy was very helpful when we called her. She came right away and spent quite some time to resolve the issue. In addition, she was nice and pleasant the entire. She is a great asset for our IT department. Thank you, Cathy!

Ken Gutierrez, Career IT

We were having trouble with the MyVSU portal which had the potential to negatively impact a large group of our clients. Fortunately, Ken spent hours woking remotely to make sure that MyVSU's down-time was minimized. Thanks to his work, MyVSU was up and fully functional in no time at all! Thanks so much, Ken!

Maxwell Smith, IT

Maxwell was so kind to take a few minutes to help me troubleshoot a problem with my network cable on our first day in our new office. Even though it only took a few minutes, it was tremendously helpful. We were able to continue assisting students with minimal interruption to our services.

Casey Colson, Accounting

Casey Colson is extremely helpful to both our students and faculty. Recently, many of us have adopted Proctor U as a means of monitoring online testing. Casey was one of the early adopters and became an expert in Proctor U. While it is not a part of her job description, Casey nevertheless goes out of her way to help both students and faculty understand and successfully implement this technology. We are all very grateful for her service. Casey Colson, thank you!

Evan Creamer, IT Helpdesk

A new hire had trouble logging into the system. We contacted the IT Helpdesk, and Evan was very thorough in asking questions in order to understand the problem. He was on the phone with us for at least 20 minutes. He walked the student through step by step what needed to be done. Evan even gave suggestions on how to help future issues from arising. Evan is quite knowledgeable and informative. He has a positive and helpful demeanor for those in need of technical support.

Jody Hudnall, IT

A new hire came to my office having an issue logging into the system. With guidance from Jody he was able to log in and get set up in a timely manner. Even though Jody was "behind the scenes" his knowledge was very much appreciated in helping this student. Way to go Jody...You are Awesome!

Pepper Croft, IT

Our office was investigating the best route to increase student graduate participation in our Destination Survey. It would have been easier for her to just engage via email to accomplish this task, but she went out of her way to meet with my team and suggest strategies to ensure the best results. She also took her time even after the project was completed to follow up. She demonstrated the level of customer service that VSU is trying to encourage our entire campus to aspire to.

Carla Jordan, Career Opportunities

A student came to our office for a routine appointment. After a few moments it was clear that the student was in distress and actually considering withdrawing from the institution. After consoling the student, Carla then inquired as to the source of her distress. She then went out of her way to walk her through some steps to deal with the challenges by utilizing various campus departments.  She emailed ahead to those departments to look out for this student. She also kept in touch with this student throughout the day, and that student came back to the office feeling more empowered and most importantly having established a positive relationship on campus. To my knowledge that correspondence still continues.

Courtney Stone, Procurement

I would like to thank Courtney for taking time out of her already busy schedule and helping the Bursary. She helped us with our bank run every day of Fee Payment Deadline even though she was swamped with her own duties. Thanks Courtney! I really appreciate you!

Herb Reinhard, Athletic Operations

Thank you for all the behind the scenes work you and your staff do to help make VSU shine. I went to see The Harlem Globetrotters for the first time and had a wonderful evening. There was a good crowd and I saw you working to make sure everything was running smoothly. A lot of work went into making this event such a success, and an entertaining evening was enjoyed by many from the community because of your efforts. Thank you!

Honey Coppage, VP - Academic Affairs

HR was in need of a form in order for a faculty member to be paid before the lockout period. It took almost a week for this paperwork to be signed with appropriate signatures. It came down to the wire, and Honey Coppage  was notified about HR needing this form. She was instrumental in tracking this down and getting the paperwork to HR quickly so the faculty member could be paid on time.

Sherry Turner, eLearning

My first day on the job as one of VSU's new Instructional Designers also happened to be the first day of school for students (Spring 2019 semester). As one can imagine, I was hustling and bustling without a clue about the logistics of the hustling and bustling. Sherry, our administrative secretary, was proactive in our onboarding process - ensuring tickets to get me access to required systems had been put in a week before, etc. She took a few minutes to walk me to the appropriate parking near our offices. She printed out a map to show me where I needed to go to handle HR business, get my ID, get my parking sticker, and get a key for my office. She pulled much of the load those first few days by answering tickets and phone calls. Sherry was instrumental in my onboarding process at VSU. She never lost her cool, assisted in any way that she could, and set me off on a strong foot. I'm happy to be working with her and proud to have her smiling face and voice representing eLearning.

Alanna Lewis, Academic Support Center

Alanna went above and beyond by going with Brittany Smith, her boss, and myself to pick up surplus chairs that were being repurposed for the NMC. I appreciate her and the rest of the ASC group for assisting us with obtaining chair upgrades for our MAC Lab.

Dr. Uyeno, Biology

Dr. Uyeno, When you told me that you would do a directed study with me and take me under your wing in the Uyeno Biomechanics lab I had no idea what I was getting myself into. This semester has been full of so many great experiences and opportunities all because of your research lab. The knowledge that I have gained about histological technique makes me confident that I could walk into any lab, hospital, or clinic and apply for a job as a histologist. I am so thankful for the time you spent training me and observing my work. I learned how to manage my time, work independently, and problem solve throughout this semester. These skills will be useful as I continue my journey at VSU and in my career. Many students have no idea what it’s like to be in a lab with amazing technology, so I feel very blessed. The robots really made me think sometimes, but they made my life so much easier in the end. Directed study is special to me because you gave me the option to pick what I wanted to research and then gave me one on one learning from the beginning to the end. Having Adrienne to help me out and build a relationship with was awesome. Thank you for allowing me to be apart of the Uyeno biomechanics lab family, and I hope many other students get to have the same experience I had!

Tayler Lawhorn, Physics, Astronomy, and Geosciences

Tayler was extremely helpful with several issues I was having at the beginning of the semester. She is always friendly and ready to help.

I was in need of help when it came to payroll and OneUSG, and Ms. Landers went above and beyond. She helped me through a step by step process via phone. She took time out of her day to help me with entering my hours and assisting me with direct deposit. I greatly appreciate it.

Kristen Jowers, College of the Arts Advising Center

Since being appointed as the advisor for students in the Mass Media program, Kristen has been working to bring student records and advising recommendations up to date. In the two weeks around the start of school, Kristen personally saw 111 drops in visits and appointments or 52% of all students visiting the College advising center. With this workload, Kristen was a voice of reason when dealing with panicked students and parents while effectively putting out fires. Her actions are a demonstration of the University's commitment to students and improving retention.

Taylor Fulp, Auxiliary Services

Campus Mail Services found itself short by two staff members starting the new year, and we were not able to immediately rehire for those positions. Taylor was asked to assist us in the Student Mail Center until we were able to rectify the situation. He jumped in and has been so help and accommodating to whatever has been asked of him. He has a great personality and disposition when dealing with the students and the Campus Mail Staff. It will be hard to see his time with us end. But for now we say THANK YOU very much! Truly a blessing!

Adrian Taylor, IT

On several occassions I have contacted IT without a clue of the technology items I am trying to order. Adrian always responds pleasantly and assists me with getting exactly what I need. Without a doubt he is very knowledgable in what he does and goes above and beyond.

Yvonne Landers, VPFA & Budgeting Services

She was very helpful and nice while assisting me with my needs.

Sherry Turner, eLearning

I went to Sherry to get help with my business cards. She helped find the site, however the instructions weren't complete. She called additional staff from the website in order to get me my business cards. The best part is that she reasearched my information to be placed on the card. She took care of everything, and I’m very thankful.

Tina Wright, OSPRA

On numerous occasions Tina was immediately available to speak with me about IRB paperwork. She provided statement templates and kept me laughing while she did it. She is a pleasure to work with.

Marny Hollis, Bookstore- Follett

From the end of last semester to now, Marny's diligence to her job and her willingness to go out of her way to help the CAMP office has been exceptional. We appreciate having Marny as part of Valdosta State University and look forward to any future interactions with her and the VSU Bookstore.

Lori Oppel, Bookstore- Follett

Lori has always been extremely helpful and informative with the CAMP staff. She has helped CAMP by providing us with excellent customer service, being informative about the process of textbook purchases, and communicating action plans that benefit both the bookstore and the CAMP office. The CAMP staff are proud to have Lori as part of Valdosta State University, and we look forward to working with her in the future.

Dr. Deborah Marciano, College of Education and Human Services

Dr. Marciano always makes sure to make all of her students feel like we are a top priority. She goes above and beyond by encouraging us in the classroom, in our practicum fields, and through life in general. She always has a good attitude and truly shows her love and passion for her job.

Hunter Baxter, IT

Hunter is a life-saver! He solved a problem with ePro since it was not allowing me to approve a procurement for a license renewal. As budget manager, I was on a tight deadline to complete this transaction. I felt frustrated by this roadblock with the technology. Hunter answered my urgent call, patiently listened to me explain the situation, and then he followed up within the hour to report he rectified the problem in ePro. I am very grateful to Hunter for his kind affect and astute skill set.

Kyle Culpepper, New Media Center

Kyle goes above and beyond to help provide the fastest and most reliable service to the faculty and students when it comes to technology. For my student teaching portfolio, I am required to provide very specific video files and specs. Not only did Kyle go out of his way to provide the updated video files with a quick turn around, but he actually caught some of the mistakes I made when requesting certain edits. Thank you, Kyle, for your outstanding service and kindness!

Dr. Theresa Grove, Science & Math

A special thanks to Theresa Grove for going above and beyond to help out the College of the Art at the recent V-State events in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina. The COA was short-staffed, so Theresa (along with the admission staff) took the initiative to setup the COA table with our recruitment materials, banners, etc. Ryan Hogan sent a text to acknowledge her initiative and assistance! Many of the VSU personnel that travel for these events go above and beyond. This is just one example of the collegiality that is indicative of so many people at VSU. Thank you, Theresa!!

Sarah-Jane McNalley, Art & Design Dean's Office

Over the past several months, Sarah-Jane has worked closely with a number of offices across campus including Event Services, IT, Web Services, and Student Affairs in transitioning from R-25 to the new EMS Event Management System. She has been instrumental in the transition to the new VSU Master Calendar/MyVSU Calendar integration, and she is critical to the planning/logistics of a very complex College of the Arts Annual Master Calendar. Our sincere thanks to Sarah-Jane for her diligence in organizing a wide range of complex information, data, and systems. She is one of the few power experts of these new systems on campus, and she has been training others in the COA to use these systems efficiently and effectively as well. Her continued commitment to this work and improving these processes is very much appreciated, especially by the COA Dean's office.

Karen Rubin, COEHS Advising Center

Last semester I went into advising feeling more or less hopeless. I was returning to school after a year off and had been trying to medically expunge my record from 2016. I turned in written records to the Dean of Students over the summer but, unfortunately it was too late for approval. In advising, Karen gave me the tools I needed to late drop my classes so I could advance through obstacles. She talked me through multiple ideas for possible majors and turned my hopelessness into motivation and excitement. This was something I had yet to feel towards school. Last semester was a learning curve for me. I had been out of school for a while, and I had to reteach myself how to learn. Today, I needed words of encouragement. I've been stressed out with scholarships for the summer semester. I walked into her office without an appointment and she gave me a rock that said "It's already OK." She told me to carry it around until she could see me later this afternoon. Everything she has done for me has made such a difference in my motivation and confidence. She goes above and beyond for her students. She is truly a gem, and I am so thankful she is my adviser.

Ryan Hogan, Admissions

When it comes to campus tours for visiting students and families, the Admissions staff routinely go above and beyond. This is especially true when communicating with the departments and programs in our college. Ryan and Hilary have provided several special guests of the Department of Art & Design with personal tours of the campus and local community. Thanks to Ryan and Hilary for all they do each and every day in the Office of Admissions!

Hilary Willis, Admissions

This is especially true when communicating with the departments and programs in our college. Ryan and Hilary have provided several special guests of the Department of Art & Design with personal tours of the campus and local community. One of these visitors raved about their time (specifically with Hilary), saying "she was fantastic - sold me on this place." Thanks to Ryan and Hilary for all they do each and every day in the Office of Admissions!

Natalie Kuhlmann, College of Education and Human Services

Natalie took the time to share important updates and help support us during our EPP meeting. She spent additional time making sure everyone understood the requirements for our programs. Further, she created individualized handouts for each program and provided specific feedback for each coordinator. Her hard work is appreciated.

Abby Pruitt, New Media Center

Abby stepped up to the plate to help interpret for a hard of hearing student. She was exceptional with both the student as well as her fellow coworkers. I wanted to express how proud she made the New Media Center.

Sheila Hall, IT

I am so thankful that VSU has Sheila Hall in Information Technology. I had an issue with Cascade where I completely disabled all of my documents on the department’s web page. All of my document links stopped working, and I was distraught! Our department has hundreds of documents linked to the web site and to lose them would have been catastrophic for me. I was at a loss on what to do or who to reach out to for assistance. I remembered Sheila Hall does trainings so I immediately called her. Even though she wasn’t quite sure on how to help me initially, she reassured me that she would help me to resolve my issue. She was a life saver in helping me with this issue and went above and beyond her call of duty to help me. I appreciate her and wanted her to know it. Thank you, Sheila. You ROCK!

A'Shondee Kinlaw, Graduate School Admissions

I recently applied for the Doctor of Education in Leadership Program (Ed.D.) Fall 2019 term at VSU. A'Shondee has been attentive, knowledgeable, and patient through my application process. A'Shondee is quick to respond to inquiries, with clear communication and professionalism. I have worked for the Admissions Office at the University of Georgia for eight years. I understand the importance of a team that is mindful of student support and customer service during high-stress times. A'Shondee is an excellent representative for your team, your office, and the University.

JoAnn Allen, Custodial Services

Ever since JoAnn has joined the staff here at Centennial Hall, she has been nothing but smiles and hard work. Every day I've seen her she is working hard on the floors and the building to make sure it is spotless. I have not seen this building this clean since I began working here! She is always in a great mood and always greeting students and staff members with a smile. She works so hard for this building, and I have absolutely nothing bad to say about her. We need more JoAnns in this world.

Barrie Fitzgerald, Institutional Research

Barrie is just one of the many outstanding people in the Division of IT / Student Success / Institutional Research. Barrie assists the College of the Arts routinely, working diligently to assemble surveys, data/statistics, trends, etc., to assist and inform programs, departments and college offices. Recently, he assisted a COA search committee in creating and refining survey instruments; he attended numerous meetings over the course of several weeks, and was able to submit a comprehensive packet of invaluable assessment information in literally 24 hrs. Barrie embodies the spirit of collaboration, openness, action, and integrity. Thank you Barrie for all that you do with and for us in the COA, and for the many divisions on campus.

Maggie Vallotton, Art & Design Dean's Office

Maggie’s attitude in the office is a model for all. She always maintains a professional disposition; her personal demeanor is warm, inviting, welcoming, friendly and responsive to all faculty, staff, students, and COA patrons. During a recent Valdosta Symphony Orchestra event, Maggie worked long weekend hours responding patiently and professionally to patrons, managing a high volume of calls, inquiries, and questions prior to and leading up to the event. She was seen picking up the parking lot on a Saturday afternoon, making sure the building and the surrounding areas looked their best for the guests attending the event that evening. This is not an isolated occurrence; she works diligently on the weekends during many events for the COA and always delivers with a smile and can-do attitude. We certainly appreciate her commitment to the COA, and all that she does for the campus and local community each and every day.

Garrett Castleman, New Media Center

He also helped us tremendously in showing us all of the editing skills we needed to complete the project.

Mr. Jeff is an exceptional worker. I regularly run into him in the hallway. He always has a smile on his face and makes sure to greet me. The third floor is always in great shape thanks to Jeff and his co-workers.

Sydney Land, Event Services

I went to pick up my event contracts, and two out of the four were ready right before closing. Despite the time of day, Sydney took the time to approve the last two event contracts. She even helped double check one of the contracts that I had made a mistake on. Her willingness to help and friendly attitude was much appreciated.

Donna Jones, Library

I use electronic course reserves in my history classes. These are scanned and posted through the library. When there were some technical problems, Donna Jones fixed the problem cheerfully and diligently. She even said that students could come to her personally for access to the articles while the problem was being fixed. That was beyond the call of duty! Because of her help, what could have been a big problem for students was quickly resolved. Donna Jones is always friendly and is a great example of the services that the library provides to students. Using course reserves for assigned readings is a good way to cut student textbook costs, so her work is really valuable.

Jennifer Griffin, Bursary

She has been invaluable to me in walking me through every loan application process. Every time she is very conscientious about instructions and any necessary follow-up contacts. I appreciated his sense of humor and his willingness to jump into this and help. On behalf of the Council on Undergraduate Research, I can't thank Chris enough for his help in making the Symposium a success.

Dr. Dunn is a wonderful, kind, and considerate professor. He truly believes in students being able to access affordable texts and documents for his classes. He also makes you feel like an old friend, no matter what kind of day he's had. He always speaks to us in a kind tone and helps us with any questions we have. Dr. Dunn uses research articles and primary sources through JSTOR to help students in his class save on text costs, which means a lot to me! He also brought us Polish candy, which we loved. Dr. Dunn shared a souvenir pen from Japan with me which I found so considerate. He is the type of professor who would give you the last piece of paper he had if it meant that you would succeed. He is truly one of a kind and an irreplaceable asset to VSU.

As a result, he improved our ability to work and continues to check in to be sure the matter is better. While the entire problem has not yet disappeared, Alfred and the engineers continue to be on top of what we need. Thank you for your hard work.

John Evan Fondren, Student Life

I asked Evan if he could place a flyer on the digital screens in the Student Union for an event that would take place at the end of the week. I was not aware of the rule that states flyers should be submitted a week prior to the week of the event. Evan responded to our needs and almost immediately had the flyer placed in rotation on the Student Union's digital screens. Blazin Love 5k is an important fundraiser for the VSU Cross Country teams. We are thankful that Evan took immediate action to get the word out to VSU students and possibly increased the number of participants in this VSU event.

Michelle Blankenship, School of Nursing

A group of 30 Echols County High students with an interest in health professions were scheduled to tour SGRMC this afternoon as part of an all day field trip. Due to a high incidence of flu patients, the hospital had to cancel the tour. When the guidance counselor who was heading up the field trip reached out to my office this morning to see if there was anything we could offer today at noon, Michelle Blankenship did not hesitate to agree to facilitate a tour of our sim labs. We accommodated the group and we’re pleased to hear the students all thought this was the "best part of their day."

Shakeanah always provides service with a bright smile. She’s always willing to go the extra mile to help students, faculty, and staff with their library questions. In addition, she encourages others to go the extra mile as well. Shakeanah’s willingness to help with our Department’s social media has been greatly appreciated! Her constructive feedback allows our posts to be better and we’ve seen great improvements in our outreach. Thank you, Shakeanah!

Christopher Brown, Bursary

I want to thank Chris for his willingness to always prioritize working with me to prepare and review our budget. Thank you Chris for always being supportive and having an enthusiastic attitutde. You are an example of VSU's motto!

Clinton Cauley, IT

Clinton was one of the first friendly faces I had the pleasure of meeting when hired at VSU, and he has continued to be an important contact for myself and all of us at eLearning. He is quick to respond to every message, email, and phone call. If he isn't sure of the answer, which is rare, he works diligently to ensure an answer is found. He is flexible, brilliant, proactive, and always on his game. eLearning is grateful!

Honey Coppage, VP - Academic Affairs

Honey is a life-saver. I emailed her at the end of a long work day with a plea for help with a budget management issue that required immediate attention and creative problem-solving since it impacted personnel. Due to work obligations that I could not reschedule, I knew I wouldn't be able to even attempt to address this issue until the following afternoon, but that delay would've be problematic.  Honey took action swiftly, came up with an innovative idea, and by late morning the next day resolved this challenge that had many bureaucratic hurdles. Thank you, Honey!

Wes Duke, IT

Wes is always so helpful to classroom support! Today we were having an issue with imaging our lab machines to replace a computer lab in Nevins Hall. The antivirus software was shutting down a software installation that is integral to the function of lab machines. Wes identified that there was a problem with the antivirus server and was able to connect us to the right people to get the problem solved! We so appreciate Wes' willingness to help us solve these kinds of problems!

Carla Gervin, LCOBA

A student needed help getting ready for our community banking symposium. Carla Gervin, without being asked, went to extraordinary lengths to make sure the student was ready. It was only by chance that I was made aware of this good deed. This is only one example of the extra mile she is willing to go for our students. Thank you, Carla!

Jeremy Hardin, New Media Center

I called Jeremy to ask for his help with printing some invitations for an upcoming event. Once I arrived at the New Media Center, Jeremy went above and beyond by making sure the document lined up and printed correctly. He then emailed me the corrected document.  To say he gave exceptional service is an understatement. There are people who genuinely have a heart for helping others, and Jeremy is one of those individuals.  Thanks, Jeremy!

Lydia Harvey, Athletics

Lydia helped us set up the sound system for Campus Recreation Champ Night. We had over 250 students and the event was a huge success. Lydia greatly improved the student experience for those who came to this event.

Michael Johns, IT

Michael, as always, made time with no notice to assist in alpha testing and troubleshooting of the data extract process which will be used for the new Student Debt Letter. The letter is a key part of the Chancellor's Know More, Borrow Less initiative. Thank you for your help.

Shanta Johnson, Library

Shanta went above and beyond to help a community patron who did not have a lot of experience using the computer. Even though there were other factors that made helping this patron a challenge, Shanta maintained a positive attitude as she provided assistance.

Shanta Johnson, Library

Shanta always provides exceptional service for our students, staff, and faculty who need assistance with printers and library resources or have reference questions. However, Shanta has gone beyond the call of duty in assisting our Department’s social media efforts. Her willingness to always listen to post ideas and evaluate potential posts is greatly appreciated. She contributes great ideas and has done so much to make our social media posts successful. Thank you, Shanta!

Dr. Hanae Kanno, Department of Social Work

Thank you so much Dr. Kanno for always being understanding! You are very attentive and always willing to be helpful. I can't express enough how appreciative I am to have you as one of my professors!

Yvonne Landers, VPFA & Budgeting Services

She helped me quickly get in touch with people I needed to contact for important paperwork. She helped ease a hectic time.

Mallory Lane, School of Nursing

On Wednesday March 6, 2019, I had an event scheduled for a group of students to help them with recognizing cardiac rhythms. I was thinking that I was going to have to cancel the event when my husband became extremely ill. Mallory Lane agreed to help with the event so that it would not have to be cancelled. Her concern for the success of the students and her willingness to help out a fellow faculty member shows her caring nature. I would like to thank Mallory for her help.

Dr. Karen Rubin, COEHS Advising Center

Dr. Rubin put forth great efforts to help me graduate. I don't think she fully knows my history, but the last twelve years have been hurdle after hurdle to earn my bachelors degree. Aside from changing majors several times, I have moved more times than I remember due to my husband being a pilot in the military. I also took off a few years to care for my father before he passed from cancer.  Having my daughter, and currently being pregnant also added to my challenges. All these events, both wonderful and tragic, have made it difficult for me to stay motivated.  Dr. Rubin took me under her wing and just made things happen. I just can't believe she invested so much time into one student.  She continued to contact me until all the necessary information was gathered, and just made things happen! I know that she is the reason I will FINALLY graduate and accomplish my goals, and there are no amount of words to properly thank her. She is a wonderful person, and I am forever grateful.

Dr. Michael Sanger, Department of Social Work

I was alone in a break room when Dr. Sanger spotted me and asked why I was sitting alone. I began to tell him what a horrible week I was having, and instead of lecturing me about class he listened to me. He did not judge me or raise concerns about my performance in the program. He simply listened. Thanks Dr. Sanger.

Barbara Scott, Custodial Services

We are so thankful to have Ms. Barbara Scott in the Athletic Field House. Everyday when we walk into the building the floors, doors, and windows are spotless. The aroma of cleanliness is evident! It is so nice to walk in and be proud to show off the building to recruits and their families or just to visitors.  We haven't had this in a long time. Thank you again Ms. Barbara.

Patrick Smith, Building Maintenance

He went above and beyond to help me get a machine up and running! He was very helpful and full of knowledge!

Dwayne Trouille, IT

My car wouldn't start, and because I live an hour away I had no one in town that could help me. Mr. Trouille overheard me asking for help, and he went above and beyond to help jump off my car. There's no doubt that I would have spent an hour or two trying to find help if Mr. Trouille hadn't walked in at the right time. I really appreciated it.

Julian Vickers, Financial Aid

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your quick response in assisting me today. Without your help, I would not have been able to continue with my driver improvement class. I was reduced to using a laptop screen to teach a class and the speakers were just not enough to fill the room with audio. Your immediate action allowed me to continue with the class and finish it on time. Your response was immediate, and you even disconnected the speakers from your own office computer. I am very grateful for your selfless response to my needs in the service to our VSU community. The action I saw and experienced today simply cannot be taught.

Jenny White, VPFA & Budgeting Services

Jenny is constantly assisting and supporting not only myself, but several individuals and offices all across campus with their budgetary questions and duties. Despite what I am certain is already a huge workload, Jenny is always happy to offer assistance with kindness and efficiency. On my most recent visit to the UC for an unrelated matter, she was able to accommodate a meeting with a few minutes notice just so that I could pick her brain about some best practices. Jenny is truly a wealth of knowledge and experience, and VSU is lucky to have someone as judicious as her.

Catherine Wills, Human Resources

She went above and beyond in helping me access very important paperwork I needed to fill out. She was very patient and very helpful.

Dr. John Wright, Student Life

Dr. Wright provided staff to help make the Campus Recreation Champ night an amazing event for students. Support like this greatly helps with retention and made the event great for the over 250 students that attended. Thank you, John.

Holly Wright, Counseling Center

Holly Wright was able to bring a new and innovative mental wellness program called Fresh Check Day to campus.  She and the Counseling Center staff brought together campus partners to provide this interactive day for students to learn healthy ways to develop and maintain mental wellness.  Due to the joint marketing efforts and promotion, the program had 241 students participate in this new program. I thank Holly and the Counseling Center staff for all their efforts in supporting and investing in the development of our student body.

Joynae Whitehurst, Event Services

Ms. Joy as well as the other young men and women who work for event services always go above and beyond to be of help. I called ES Wednesday morning after I received an email about additional needs by my director for setup at events that were happening that day. Ms. Joy was able to, with the help of the other ES staff, get me taken care of. Later in the day when I encountered a brief problem at the UC, Joy and the ES staff were again there to save the day. It is really a pleasure working with such helpful and accommodating staff.

Dr. Sonja Wright-Smith, Access Center

While working with Dr. Wright-Smith on a separate project she invited me to attend the GA - Ahead Conference. At first, I thought this might not really be for me, but I am so happy I attended. I work for an organization that provides information and services that assist students with disabilities to successfully transition from high school and into post-secondary education and the workforce. This conference gave me an opportunity to learn information that I will take back to my team with the expectation of our students learning more about programs that support and assist them in successfully completing post-secondary education. Bravo Zulu for having the vision to invite and encourage me to attend such a wonderful learning and networking experience.

Barrie Fitzgerald, Institutional Research

Every time I ask for data Mr. Fitzgerald is eager to help. Today, I asked for some data that I needed as soon as possible. Mr. Fitzgerald provided the data within 20 minutes.  I just want to say thank you for all you do.

Patrick McElwain, Registrar

I received notification from a student during the last few minutes of the business day that she could not register for her courses during early registration.  I sent an email to Patrick and within minutes the glitch was fixed.  I can't imagine how busy the Registrar's Office must get during registration, but it shows the caliber of customer service and care in their office. Thank you, Patrick, for taking the time to make things right for even just one student.

Dr. Karen Rubin, COEHS Advising Center

Dr. Rubin has been so helpful to me throughout my time at VSU with giving me advice on classes to take that best meet my schedule and that will help satisfy all areas of my degree. I appreciate all that she has done for me and all of the good direction she has given.

Dr. Christy Yates, Human Resources

Dr. Yates and her team have gone above and beyond to resolve a tricky part-time instructor hiring situation. Dr. Yates dug deep into USG policies to see if she could figure out how to help a part-time instructor. Thanks also to Catherine Wills, Michael Stalvey, and Carmen James for helping make this transition go as smoothly as possible for the department and for the instructor. VSU is lucky to have these people working in HR.

Denise Sauls, School of Nursing

Ms. Denise Sauls works with first-semester nursing students. Knowing how overwhelmed they are, she always goes above and beyond to be compassionate, available, patient, and kind to them. There have been some students with extenuating circumstances this semester and she has not hesitated to ensure their well-being both academically and personally. I appreciate her selfless acts and enjoy working alongside her! Thank you, Denise!

Sergio Brown, Central Warehouse

Throughout the summer and fall, we had a number of our offices re-locate. Sergio met with us on numerous occasions to give us a chance to check out the furniture, provided steps for requesting the delivery and setup, and even followed up to ensure our needs were met. Normally, moving can be stressful, but Sergio's amazing customer service and ownership of our needs throughout the process made it a very smooth transition.

Lisa Long, Admissions

Mrs. Long really went above and beyond to make sure my transient credits were accepted and went to the correct place. It was such an easy experience, and she responded back very quickly. She ensured the problem was resolved as soon as possible so I could sign up for my fall classes.

Dr. Sonja Wright-Smith, Access Center

She was very helpful! I’ve been trying to get someone to point me in the right direction for quite some time! It is so appreciated, Ms. Sonja! Thanks so much!

Dr. Sonja Wright-Smith, Access Center

I needed assistance for a parent/student at another college. Dr. Wright-Smith was extremely helpful and directed us to the right department and person from the other college.

Jeffrey Thomas, Campus Services

Jeffrey goes above and beyond every day. Not only does he always have a smile and warm greeting for everyone, but the 3rd floor of HSBA has never been cleaner. The entire floor smells AMAZING. Jeffrey is the first person I encounter at work, and he always brightens my day. The business school really appreciates his commitment to excellence!

Carmen James, Human Resources

Ms. Carmen James was willing to continue working on an issue until it was resolved. She was exceptional.

Dr. Kathy Warner, Psychology

This department, led by Dr. Kate Warner, always goes above and beyond each and every semester in supporting our off-campus dual enrollment courses. While these requests are often times challenging, they seem to always make it happen with such ease!  So, to Dr. Kate Warner, many thanks for this latest endeavor!  We really appreciate your continued support of our DE students!

We really appreciate your continued support of our DE students!

Obediah Hall, CELT

Obi goes well above and beyond in his helpfulness to those who work with him. When I needed to plan an upcoming lunch event he helped figure out the numbers, offered to contact the vendor himself, and offered to pick up the items needed. This is just the most recent example of how quickly he steps up to help those who cross his path at CELT.

Jesse Schultheis, IT

Thank you for the exceptional product knowledge and prompt customer service. With your expert solutions, we are able to schedule things without a delay. Much appreciated!

Tracy Burch, Colege of Education Dean's Office

Thank you, Tracy Burch, for your aid and guidance during National Farmworkers Awareness Week in late March. The materials needed for the multiple events we had back-to-back were a success because of your willingness to help. The CAMP department is consistently reminded of the wonderful people on campus. We are thankful to be surrounded by the kindness of you and others. Your small gesture allowed for the success of so many others. We are truly thankful and appreciative of you.

Yvonne Landers, VPFA & Budgeting Services

Yvonne was extremely helpful in assisting the organization I advise with a major financial issue. She was able to contact the appropriate individual and worked to help me resolve the problem. Thank you for your hard work and genuine concern! You are very much appreciated.

Tanja Rouse, Financial Aid

Ms. Rouse went above and beyond when a financial aid issue occurred with the students in our program. When 10 plus students had financial aid difficulties, instead of just directing us to solve the problem with the FAFSA 1-800 number, Ms. Rouse dug a little deeper and found the underlying cause of all of the FAFSA errors and a solution as well! This made it so much easier for me to help the students complete their FAFSA for the upcoming school year. Thank you so much for going above and beyond what was required of you to help us out!

Kristen Jowers, College of the Arts Advising Center

Mrs. Jowers is my son’s advisor and she has gone above and beyond to help us. She has made this road of navigating college easy for the parents. She has consistently been there to answer questions and even call me back after hours. Kristen is very friendly, and I've never felt rushed while asking questions. If she doesn’t know the answer to a question she always makes sure to find out and get back with me. You can tell that she puts the well-being of her students first. I hope that in two years we are lucky enough to have her as an advisor for my younger son. Thank you!

Libba Willcox, Department of Art & Design

I called Libba today to see if she could meet with a panicked student who is considering a major change to Art Education. Libba agreed to meet with the student within the hour. Thank you for being so accessible to me and our students amid the chaos of final exams. Libba, you exemplify all of the reasons why I love working with the College of the Arts. Thank you.

Levi Johnson, IT

Thank you for the exceptional product knowledge and prompt customer service. With your expert solutions, we are able to schedule things without a delay. Much appreciated!

Daniel Smith, Center for eLearning

Putting new items into Blazeview can be a real challenge for some of us. A recent episode brought me in touch with Daniel. He was helpful, patient, and he kept after the task until all was complete and working. His friendly demeanor and expertise were above and beyond!

Dr. Regina Suriel, Middle, Second, Reading, & Deaf Education

We had been looking for two weeks for a Spanish Interpreter for a parent meeting we were hosting at VSU. So far, we had no luck. When asked, Dr. Suriel graciously gave her time and talent to help us out. She was awesome!

Dr. Sonya Sanderson, Kinesiology & PE

My car had broken down in front of the Student Union. Dr. Sanderson along with other faculty members pushed my car into the nearest parking lot. Not only did she assist me with my car, but she also encouraged me and pushed me to graduate. Dr. Sanderson is Superwoman for the Kinesiology Department.

Dr. Sonya Sanderson, Kinesiology & PE

She is one of the most inspiring, caring, hard-working, and dedicated individuals I know. Dr. Sanderson went out of her way to guide me to success. Even before I entered VSU, she was the person to answer any questions and was more than happy to help.

Yvonne Landers, VPFA & Budgeting Services

I needed assistance in understanding how to approve time for a graduate assistant. I had followed the instructions but was still unable to complete the task. Yvonne walked me through the process, waited for me to send screenshots, and remained on the line until all my questions were resolved. Before she ended the call she let me know she would be following up to make sure the issues we discussed on the call were resolved. I greatly appreciate the time Yvonne took to assist me.

Yvonne Landers, VPFA & Budgeting Services

Yvonne was patient, kind, informative, and efficient in assisting me with problems that I had in approving time for my co-workers. I could hear the smile in her voice as she helped me to navigate through the process. I can not say enough good things. Thank you.

Elaina Walker, Advising

Elaina went above and beyond to make sure that I was able to graduate on time, and she succeeded! She is an amazing advisor and deserves all the recognition!

Rocky Rothwell, IT

Rocky stayed late on Friday, May 3rd to assist with an urgent request which prevented an interruption of services. This is just the most recent example of his selfless commitment to the university. We're very fortunate to have people like Rocky on our team. Thank you, Rocky!

Crystal Miller, Library

Every time I am in the library and Crystal is working I always see her going above and beyond. She is very resourceful and drops anything she’s doing to help someone. It doesn’t matter how small the task is, Crystal always seems genuinely invested in each person she interacts with. She makes the library a more comfortable place with her friendliness.

Zonnya Lane, Financial Services

The travel reimbursement process can be pretty stressful, especially for graduate students. Zonnya Lane exuded the utmost patience and service excellence! She took extra time out of her schedule to sit with me and walk me through the process of completing the travel expense form. She did everything in her power (and more) to make this process as expedited and effortless as possible. I appreciate the great attitude and helping hand. Without you, I would not have received my reimbursement as easily or as quickly. Thank you for being such an asset to the Blazer Family!

Cassidy Phillips, Event Services

Cassidy is a Student Assistant in Event Services who has continually gone above and beyond all year to assist me in learning my new job here at VSU. On Sunday, April 29, 2019, she came in to help get Blaze to a community event. Cassidy is a senior and will be greatly missed in our department!

VSU Grounds, Plant Operations

Upon arrival to administer the SAT on Main Campus, I noticed that the Front Lawn still had a large amount of debris from an event the night before. Grounds came in, on an early Saturday morning, to clean up and return the Front Lawn to its beautiful state. Excellent work!

Morgan Clawson, Center for eLearning

Morgan has provided wonderful service assisting faculty and students with their eLearning needs. I sincerely appreciate all of her assistance (and of course, everyone at the center for eLearning). Thanks for all you do for VSU!

Joseph Ritter, Plant- Building Maintenance

Mr. Joseph Ritter helped our research group by bringing a mounted large power saw to the fourth floor of Bailey and making hundreds of cuts. If Physical Plant didn’t help, we would have completed the work with a small hand saw! Thank you for the high quality work that really helped us!

Bucky Carter, Plant- Building Maintenance

Mr. Bucky Carter helped our research group by bringing a mounted large power saw to the fourth floor of Bailey and making hundreds of cuts. If Physical Plant didn’t help, we would have completed the work with a small hand saw! Thank you for the high quality work that really helped us!

Dr. Mark McQuade, Music

The version of the National Anthem that we normally use has an unusually long introduction. Mark edited it to remove the long intro. This was done 15 minutes before we had Vocal Practice in the Complex. Thank you.

Cliff Giddens, IT

Cliff went above and beyond to help me recover a file that I desperately needed. He stopped what he was doing, calmed down my ugly crying panic attack, and helped right away. You're the best. Thank you, Cliff, I appreciate it more than you know!

Brian Anderson, LCOBA Technical Unit

Brian often finds solutions to problems encountered by faculty and staff. He completes these tasks with a smile, and an overall positive, customer-service approach.  Thanks, Brian for the things you do in the background to make us all shine.

Lynn Darsey, Auxiliary Services

Lynn stayed after hours and personally drove a student without a car to Walmart to buy food. This is not unusual for Lynn as she has gone above and beyond many times to help students.

Joseph Newton, IT

I just wanted to thank Joe for his assistance on a project we've been working on. He helped so much even though it was during one of his busiest times. His efforts and vision for the project are greatly appreciated.

Robin Smith, Dean's Office of Humanities and Social Sciences

Robin worked very hard to help with a substantial order for an upcoming project. It had to be done at an extremely busy time, and she assisted with a smile. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Zonnya Lane, Financial Services

Since my first day in April 2017, Zonnya has always been helpful & patient with me when it came to travel! She always responds & assists me with a smile when we are face to face. Helping with travel is her specialty and she makes it easy to navigate! I appreciate her dearly! Thanks for all you do, Zonnya!

Yvonne Landers, VPFA & Budgeting Services

In the midst of an issue with travel, Shauna Branch assisted me with my airfare. I was continually receiving an error message. I called Financial Services for assistance, however, they were in the midst of moving. Yvonne answered the phone and assisted me. She reassured me that this would be taken care of as soon as possible. I am thankful for her caring attitude. She made sure that my upcoming trip for our National Organization for Students with Disabilities was secured.  Yvonne, I truly appreciate your assistance.

Shauna Branch, Student Success

Shauna has proven that teamwork definitely makes the dream work. She has shown me what it truly means to be a caring, kind, and an exemplary employee. She is full of compassion and certainly serves as a light on campus. Thanks so much for working with our department and assisting me with the travel for an upcoming trip.  Your thoughtfulness does not go unnoticed and it is appreciated!

Maxwell Smith, IT

We had a three-hour radio show with Scott James scheduled from 6 a.m. to 9 .m. in the West Hall Conference Room. Maxwell was there before 5:30 a.m. and ready to work. He helped Scott James get his equipment set up and then he stayed with us the entire time. He went above and beyond to ensure the radio show was a success. We are truly grateful for his hard work and commitment. We look forward to working with him in the future.

Darli Devane, Housing and Residence Life

Housing Assignments are always a stressful time. With changes being made by the system timelines were moved up. Darli really did an excellent job of getting ready. When systems didn't speak correctly, she made a lot of manual changes and worked really hard to solve things quickly.

Emily Seckinger, Housing and Residence Life

Emily was super helpful these past two weeks helping us to get housing assignments made and published.  There was a lot of work that needed to be done quickly. She really stepped up and her help was essential!

Katelyn Rowell, Housing and Residence Life

As a student worker, Katelyn has always performed well. These past 2 weeks with housing assignments and the timeline being moved up 2 months, she was extra helpful. Going through almost 3,000 records one at a time to check for accuracy takes a lot out of a person. She was really helpful and maintained her sunny personality.

Jeremy Hardin, New Media Center

Jeremy Hardin was a tremendous help in putting together an amazing Book Drop for the Johnston Lakes Library in Lake Park. Every summer, I have worked to help celebrate the public libraries Summer Reading program. Last fall, we made a Shark to be affixed around the book drop - so kids could put their books through the shark's teeth. This summer, young readers will be learning about space and the solar system. Because we have a Mass Media alum at NASA, instead of just scrap paper and cardboard, I wanted to help them create a "famous" robot for their book drop. After Kyle Culpepper helped me identify a Creative Commons applicable image, Jeremy Hardin printed, cut and laminated the robot. Thank you, Jeremy. You've made hundreds of children's dreams become reality.

Dr. Sonya Sanderson, Kinesiology & PE

I have known Dr. Sanderson since 2006, and I knew right away that she was dedicated to her work. It is such a joy to watch her students excel through both undergrad and graduate school. She is very professional in everything she does, and she has a contagious positive attitude. I have looked forward to working with her and our team every day. I had Ovarian Cancer, stage 3, and it was very aggressive. As soon as I found out, I had surgery to remove the tumors and Dr. Sanderson came to the hospital in Tallahassee to see me several times. She supported me every step of the way. She started a meal train and helped set up two-yard sales to benefit my expenses. She even asked the oncologist one night if I could go home and he actually said yes. She then helped me get my things together and she took me home. Even when Chemo days were rough she encouraged me. She was instrumental in encouraging me to start exercising again and we now exercise as a team. She has made my time at VSU so rewarding. She is the greatest multitasker and communicator that I have ever known. I will especially miss competing with her on a walking team.

Janice Robinson, Catering

Communications organized a three-hour, VSU-themed radio show with Scott James. The first guest was scheduled to go on at 6 a.m., with a new guest every 20 minutes. Janice and Monica were there by 5 a.m. with coffee, muffins, fruit, and more to help keep everyone energized for the show and they were smiling (before sunrise). I cannot thank them enough for their support, sense of humor, and positive spirit.

Monica Davenport, Catering

Communications organized a three-hour, VSU-themed radio show with Scott James. The first guest was scheduled to go on at 6 a.m., with a new guest every 20 minutes. Janice and Monica were there by 5 a.m. with coffee, muffins, fruit, and more to help keep everyone energized for the show and they were smiling (before sunrise). I cannot thank them enough for their support, sense of humor, and positive spirit.

Bailey Raffield, IT

We had a last minute technical issue that was discovered the day before 200 students (and 300 guests) showed up for an Orientation session. Bailey spent the majority of the day on Tuesday trying to find a remedy for the situation. He worked on discovering a solution well-after at 9:00 p.m. On Wednesday, the day of Orientation, Bailey showed up at the session at 7:30 a.m. to make sure our check-in process went smoothly. Bailey is a tremendous support to Admissions and the rest of the campus.

Laura Byers, Access Office

Laura volunteered to assist in the HR office move and truly made an enormous difference through the hours she gave. I was struggling with bronchitis and Laura jumped right in and packed my things with great care. She was so gracious and generous with her time. It made a stressful experience much easier and certainly made me feel like the university was functioning as a team. Many, many thanks!

Morgan Clawson, Center for eLearning

Ms. Clawson is very knowledgeable and extremely helpful! She helped me set up my online course via BlazeView.

Neal Culbreth, Student Financial Services

Mr. Culbreth answered all of my questions in a thorough and quick manner.

Ron Butler, Campus Mail

We at the Military Families Learning Network Team here at VSU want to personally thank Mr. Ron Butler in Campus Mail for all of his hard work. He made sure that our team was taken care of after moving to our new offices on North campus. Ron has made sure our mail and packages have been getting to us and that we've been updated in their system. We want to thank him for all the time and help he has provided!

Dr. Sonja Wright-Smith, Access Center

Ms. Wright-Smith welcomed my freshman sons into her office and made them feel like they were at home. She took the time to explain not only what is required of them, but also how she could help them. She was very kind, compassionate, and professional.

Clinton Cauley, IT

Clint Cauley from eLearning combined my two BlazeView online courses while at the Los Angeles airport en route back from Japan. Dedication to excellence at its best!

Jamie Landau, CELT

Jamie stepped in while the eLearning staff was trying to solve a course merger issue. She was so patient, helpful and effective. Things worked out better than I could have imagined.

Morgan Clawson, Center for eLearning

Morgan Clawson from eLearning was so creative and helpful. In the middle of a last-minute crisis, she helped us to come up with a creative temporary solution, while we had to wait for the person in charge could resolve the issue. Kudos to Morgan for her work attitude!

Michael Anderson, IT

Thank you, Michael, for helping me with my new computer. I purchased a new system when my old one was destroyed by lightning, just two days into the Summer semester as I was teaching online. A bug in Outlook prevented me from full access to this app and I even had a Microsoft tech helping me.  Michael must have written to me several times over several days trying everything in his power to help, and in the end, what worked was his very first suggestion! I must have driven him crazy, but he stuck with me until everything was back to normal. Talk about above and beyond, thank you, Michael!

Loanne Liu, Admissions

I contacted Loanne for assistance during our registration session during orientation. She was on a call and we missed each other. Loanne followed up very promptly via text apologizing for missing my call and ensuring that my problem was resolved. I was very impressed with her customer service and determination to see the process through.

Steve Fesler, Plant Operations

Steve hung about 10 framed pictures on our walls and in our offices-they look beautiful and he did such a careful and professional job. He's got an eye for what looks good, and I thank him in my head every time I come into work and see the wall art. Steve's done a lot of little things for our office, and we appreciate his patience with us.

Dr. Sonja Wright-Smith, Access Center

I enjoyed the Moving AHEAD Conference and being on the beautiful campus of Valdosta State University. What an honor to have the president of VSU welcome everyone. It was an honor for the President of VSU to share with us his relationship with Disability Services. The conference was great networking experience, and the speakers were carefully selected. It was awesome meeting Miss Deaf USA. The session topics were much needed, and the speakers were very knowledgeable in their field of expertise. The staff was both courteous and knowledgeable. The food was awesome and I loved the snacks. Job well done and thanks again for such a great conference. Dr. Wright-Smith assisted with a hearing impaired issue. She is very knowledgeable and informative in her expertise in disabilities. Thanks, Dr. Wright-Smith for all you do in assisting and caring for others!

On 6/20/2019, an employee was working in the University Center and became unconscious after being injured. Gary Thomas acted swiftly and notified someone to contact Emergency Medical Services. He answered questions and assisted where needed. Because of his efforts, the employee is home recovering. I feel that Gary should receive recognition for his efforts in helping a fellow employee.

Annjannette Atkins, Creative Services

Anjie helped our team update the directory profile on our web page. Anjie was able to make the connection between changes made in Cascade and publish them to the live website. Anjie also gave us more insight about creating a default directory profile for staff members with multiple directory listings. Anjie was quick to identify the problem and swiftly bridged the gap in our knowledge. Anjie, thanks for taking the time to troubleshoot!

Rocky Rothwell, IT

I am grateful for all the support IT has done. This is a shout out to Rocky Rothwell and IT Networking for the amazing support that they have provided us to best enhance our workflow for laptop imaging. We have gone from an 8-hour wait to image 4 to 5 laptops at a time to a maximum of an hour to image up to 26 laptops at a time. We are very grateful to IT for sending us Rocky to find the best solution to positively impact our ability to turn around our laptop deployment and maintenance phase.

Wes Duke, IT

We expected Wes would help us with creating an image. However, he has gone above and beyond by supplying us with excellent technical assistance. For example, the BIOS on our older HP Probooks would not handle the new UEFI Secure boot settings due to legacy keys that needed to be reset. This is not something that we can look up online for a quick fix. This is something that required someone like Wes to help identify since each BIOS is unique. He was prompt to respond and assist with this issue and many others we experienced this summer. Wes is an invaluable member of IT, who has helped us to improve our user experience in our lab spaces by correcting a configuration on the image being created even on the day of the desired deployment. We appreciate all that he has done to support our image deployment needs for the over 200 lab and laptop machines that we maintain in the NMC.

Annjannette Atkins, Creative Services

Ms. Anjie Atkins has gone above and beyond to make the transition phase we have been in painless. No matter what little annoying issue I may or may not have caused while trying to edit our page through Cascade, Ms. Anjie is always a calm and understanding voice. She never fails to be of assistance. It's fellow staff like Ms. Anjie that make the jobs of Administrative staff a little easier. She is a real asset to the Blazer family.

Anna Taylor, Physical Plant - Facilities Panning

I emailed Plant with a tall order of asking for every single CAD file of the entire university so that we could input them into our diagram system. After receiving the files and working with them on a difficult system, I asked to have them sent in the PDF version. Without hesitation, Anna was emailing me with the PDF versions of these layouts and immediately responding to any questions that I had. I was sure that with the crazy request Anna would be hesitant, but she went above and beyond to help me out. Her help has and will be extremely beneficial to our department. I cannot thank her enough!

Diane Bellflowers, Physical Plant Admin

I have been working with Diane for a long time and no matter the crazy requests I send her way, she always does what she can to help me out. I sent her a request with a tall order, and without hesitation, Diane sent me all of the information I needed. She has always been super helpful even with my random questions and requests. Our office appreciates her help more than she knows!

Samuel Sandwell, IT

Samuel has made several trips to the Honors House to get the computer, printers, and copier in the Admin area all networked together. He then stayed to set up the printer settings in each of the offices for the Dean and the advisors. Several offices were locked as advisors were not on sight, but Samuel was patient.  He moved on to another office and then back-tracked to make sure each computer being used was taken care of. Samuel came out to Honors House again to connect an additional monitor in the Admin area.  Samuel was patient, very polite, answered all my questions, and always asked before using the phone or logging off/making changes to computer settings. Samuel is an asset to the IT area.

Tina Wright, OSPRA

Tina has provided exceptional service from the Institutional Review Board office over the past month. After speaking with her on the phone it sounds like this summer has been busy in her office. I am grateful for her service and assistance with the IRB process.

Ken Gutierrez, IT

While on vacation, there were multiple instances where he had to stop what he was doing and put his vacation on hold in order to fix MyVSU and Apex systems that went down. Whether it was coming in to work on the day he was supposed to be leaving, sitting in the airport, or even in the middle of an event that was the focus of his trip, he made work a priority and was committed to making sure systems were running properly. His attitude, dedication, and work ethic are among the best. He is truly an asset to this institution.

Dr. Marci Marshall, Curriculum, Leadership, and Technology

Dr. Marshall is the best academic advisor that I have ever had. Dr. Marshall continuously exhibits professionalism with every interaction that we have. She is patient, helpful, very thorough, and makes sure that I am informed about everything that is applicable to me. Any question that I may have she promptly responds to and keeps me informed of the status. At times it can be challenging as an online student not being able to easily access resources. Dr. Marshall has definitely done a great job bridging that gap and making me feel valued.  She has really made a big impact on my time at VSU in a positive way and I will always remember her.

Sage Harris, Graduate School

Thanks for all the work Nicholas (Sage) does coordinating the Graduate Assistantship Program.

Barry Futch, Environmental and Occupational Services

Communications and Media Relations hosted a Bees on Bailey media event and Barry was very kind to set aside some time to come out and share his knowledge with the news media. He recently helped to relocate nearly 100,000 bees from undesirable high-traffic locations on campus. Those bees now have new homes on the roof of the Hugh C. Bailey Science Center, where they play a vital role on our campus, including educating our students about animal behavior and more. Seeing Barry in action, it is obvious why he is called the Bee Whisperer.

Brian Roberts, Student Union Operating

During the Capital Campaign Celebration set-up, we discovered that Event Services did not have enough Pipe & Drape inventory to complete the desired look in the Complex. I contacted Brian to see if we could borrow items from the Student Union to complete our set-up. He made multiple trips to the Complex to drop off items for us as design changes occurred while we were adapting to the changing needs for set-up. This event would not have looked as great as it did, nor would it have been complete without his assistance. He was quick to help, and he did it all with a smile. Thank you, Brian!

Dean Blake Pearce, College of the Arts

When we were hosting an event in Whitehead Auditorium, it began to rain which presented a problem as we were then taking our students to various locations for small group discussions of the event in Whitehead.  Since it was close to the end of the workday, we were worried that we wouldn't be able to find another location and the staff to help us. This was not true for Dean Pearce, Associate Dean Michael Schmidt, and Facility Coordinators Joe and Brant.  They were able to open up Sawyer Theater for us and get our students situated. Wes has always provided the necessary information and service when I have requested assistance. This week, I was struggling to work out the technical details for a project with an upcoming deadline, and he was able to set up an operating system image for testing within a few minutes of my request after discussing possible options for configuration. I truly appreciate his work.

Wade Bugby, IT

I have had the pleasure of working with Wade multiple times in the last month on two projects. He is consistent, cheerful, and has managed a quick turnaround for every request. His responsiveness has played a major role in helping my team meet our project goals.

David Pulliam, IT

I would like to commend David Pulliam not only for today but for all of the times we have worked with him for assistance on new or on-going projects.  He always listens intently, provides helpful feedback and suggestions, and genuinely cares to get you the best help he and IT can provide.  He has never complained or dismissed any requests, but always tries to gain a better understanding of the desired end result and provide a solution.  If he can't provide one immediately he gives you a temporary alternative and updates on progress, until he can resolve the issue, which he does in a timely manner. It is always a pleasure to work with him, and yes that is his job, but the attitude and respectful manner in which he does it is exemplary and always appreciated.

Catherine Wills, Human Resources

Today Catherine walked to the UC Theatre to explain why the TIAA agent was not there for his appointment (hurricane evacuation). She sat with me as she has done so many times over my last ten years here to patiently answer my questions and explain how everything I’m needing works. She has met with me every year since I started ten years ago to helped me understand my options in the medical and other benefits areas, which made it possible for me to make informed choices.  She has also served as my sounding board when I had situations to address. She is kind, patient, funny, and professional.  I always enjoy my annual visits to her office. She helps reduce my stress with her gentle encouragement and was a blessing when I was going through my medical situations. We are very lucky to have Catherine in our Human Resources Department.

Jeremy is great! We ran into some technical difficulties with a wireless microphone that we borrowed from the New Media Center. Jeremy was quick to help and was committed to troubleshooting the problem so that we were able to successfully host our Trivia Night at Odum Library.

Danielle Costello, Odum Library

Danielle went above and beyond to make our Trivia Night a success! Without Danielle, we wouldn't have been able to do this event. Hosting a two-hour trivia night "after hours" can only happen when exceptional, dedicated employees volunteer. Danielle took amazing photos for our event and helped in so many ways. We appreciate it, Danielle! Thank you!

Robert Taylor, Odum Library

Without Robert, our Trivia Night would not have been possible. This is an event that can only happen when we have fabulous volunteers like Robert. This is a great opportunity for students to learn, have fun, and connect with library staff. Any help is invaluable. Robert did an amazing job managing the energy generated by enthusiastic students who were ready to win.  Hosting a two-hour trivia night "after hours" can only happen when exceptional, dedicated employees volunteer.  Robert's help with keeping score was appreciated by everyone

Donny Tusler, eLearning

Melissa Adams, Plant Services

Coming to work after a nice weekend to the 3rd floor of Converse Hall without air fully circulating our space has been rough. It is a true statement that heat rises! After communicating with Melissa Adams a couple of times that day, she took the initiative to contact Bobby Elston about getting the air turned on possibly the day before or earlier to accommodate our needs. It's Monday morning, September 9, and it feels amazing! Thank you, Melissa and Bobby, for caring about how we feel and then stepping in to rescue our team.

Central Warehouse Team, Physical Plant and Facilities Planning

Though my accolades have come late, I could not allow another day to go by without appreciating our team members across campus. Despite the various moves that occurred on campus this summer, the representatives of Central Warehouse, Chris, Gary, Grady, and Sergio, went out of their way for our department to assist us far beyond what they could handle. Though they were shorthanded, I appreciate their service in hearing our needs and working diligently to accommodate us. They provided assistance as we moved to a new space, and they also helped to prepare/setup offices for new employees. Thank you for providing surplus pictures and input as we worked. Also, Chris worked diligently to find the correct keys to lock and unlock the furniture we gained, and a service request was moved up the list after finding out we had 1 ream of paper remaining for supplies. The team delivered the right way. Taking care of our warehouse needs along with other campus requests in such a challenging time deserves an award. You all are an important piece of the puzzle at VSU, and the university would not be able to function without you. Thanks again for being courteous, patient, persistence, and supportive. It has not gone unnoticed!

Laura Wright, Odum Library

Laura Wright went out of her way to assist the Academic Support Center (and more specifically, Supplemental Instruction Leaders) in reserving spaces for the rest of the semester for their study sessions. The task was arduous in that SI Leaders are required to implement 3 study sessions a week; space is limited. Usually, Laura responds quickly to the requests and offers alternatives as solutions for reserving spaces. We are most grateful.

Danielle Costello, Odum Library

Ms. Roberts provided a quick and exceptional service in removing a posted alert for six of my students.  Thank you, Ms. Roberts, and keep up the good service!

Dr. Jamie Landau, CELT

Dr. Landau has taken her responsibility as dual enrollment faculty to the next level! Realizing these are high school students in her Communications 1100 course who are completing college work, she embedded additional assignments in her syllabus that supports their transition into college coursework. By requiring them to attend office hours and tutoring and/or workshop sessions provided by ASC, she is creating an environment that shows them how to take advantage of various support services that will help ensure they are more successful in their classes. Developing strong study and time management skills must be taught as well and we thank Dr. Landau for supporting these students in this additional way. Round of applause for Dr. Landau!

McKenzie Hart, VPFA & Budgeting Services

I am new to the treasury position for a system-wide organization. Making sure the budget is correct and funds are available is not as simple as I thought it would be for this type of account. There are a few steps that I was not aware of, and McKenzie explained the process to me. She also reached out to another individual on my behalf to assist me further.

Susan Jones, Plant Services

Susan is always helpful, but today she went above and beyond to help us out!  When there was a bit of confusion, Susan was quick to help provide insight and also offer alternative solutions.  As we are constantly reaching out for assistance with work orders, Susan is always patient and understanding - as well as personable when things get a bit goofy.  Thanks for all your help!

Lynette Hepburn-Richardson, Carrer Opportunites

As I am an international student, I really appreciate how Lynnette has been helping me out to find a job. I was very lost about finding a job. Lynnette has been so helpful to me! Even though I am currently in South Korea, she did not hesitate to help me out online. She replied to me very fast about my questions and perfectly assisted me with kind words. She cheered me on during this tough period. We need more people like Lynette! She is very kind to students and very good at correcting errors on resumes and cover letters. Thank you.

Ian Andersen

Professor Anderson went the extra mile in facilitating an interdisciplinary opportunity for our students. Throughout the process, he was eager to listen to ideas and provide support.

Andrew Black, Mass Media

On September 6th, I broke my glasses and could not navigate around campus. Professor Black helped me from the Fine Arts building back to my building to schedule an eye appointment that day. He then personally drove me to the eye appointment and waited two hours until my glasses were fixed to ensure my safety. I appreciate him.

Sarah Lowry, Theatre

Due to my teaching schedule, I couldn't make it to the box office to get my tickets.  She not only offered to take my information she even walked across campus to collect it.

Ingrid Joiner, Admissions

Ingrid Joiner is a hardworking employee with an amazing ambition to go above and beyond. I have never seen anyone handle their job the way that Ingrid does every day. She is a true gem in the Office of Admissions. Ingrid handles each student the same with great importance. Thanks for all that you do and for helping us with our situation.

Veronica Graham, Registrar

I was recently needing to verify that I am indeed a full-time student for the necessary paperwork. I was put in touch with Veronica who was great to talk to. She knew what was going on and how to handle it without any issue. She only needed to verify my mailing address. The forms needed to arrive in NY within 10 days so I asked if she could fill it out, place the school seal, scan, it and email back to me - she did just that all within one morning! Thanks, Veronica!

Dr. Linda Most, MLIS- COE

I was recently needing to verify that I am indeed a full-time student for the necessary paperwork. I reached out to my program head, Dr. Most. She immediately responded, was understanding, and offered to help in any which way she could. She made it so that I was able to get the forms completed and sent on their way to Albany, NY just as soon as possible. Thanks, Dr. Most!

Joseph Newton, IT

I have to send a lot of emails to campus listservs and Joe went above and beyond to help make sure that all my emails got through in a timely manner during a particularly busy week when I had to send out a whole lot more of those emails than usual. Without Joe's frequent help, marketing to the campus would be a whole lot harder!

Pepper Croft, IT

I have to send a lot of emails to campus listservs and Pepper went above and beyond to help make sure that all my emails got through in a timely manner during a particularly busy week when I had to send out a whole lot more of those emails than usual, many of which were time-sensitive. I know it is a lot of work to moderate these listservs, so I wanted to take the time to thank Pepper for her extra work with me that helps me do my job more effectively. Thank you, Pepper!

Shawn's leadership was integral in the creation of making the new Fall Explosion Kick Off a success for our new incoming students. He not only worked to plan and organize the events, but he and his staff were highly involved in facilitating the programs and housing the activities in the Recreation Center due to bad weather.  Shawn and his team were flexible, professional, and available to make sure this program was a success. Shawn Phippen is a dedicated Student Affairs professional.  I am thankful to have his ideas, leadership, and professionalism to help create and execute new initiatives for Valdosta State University.

Madalyn Holt, Odum Library

It was a Sunday night when the elevator malfunctioned at the library. The elevator was stuck on the third floor and the doors wouldn’t close. If that wasn’t bad enough, the elevator was also beeping continuously! The noise was disruptive for the students attempting to study in the library. Several of us investigated the elevator situation but were unable to determine the cause for the malfunction. Maddie asked if she could take a look. Thanks to her attention to detail, determination, and keen eyesight, Maddie was able to find a small piece of plastic debris that was preventing the doors from closing. Her willingness to go the extra mile restored an environment conducive for studying. Thank you, Maddie!

Donny Tusler, eLearning

As a new faculty member, I found I had made several design errors in my Blazeview course. I went over to see Donny and within an hour, he helped me fix my errors and took the time to be sure I understood each step we took to create a better design. He is so patient, kind, and understanding!

Keep up the good work Quinncy!

Donny Tusler, E-Learning

As a professor who teaches both face to face and online courses, juggling problems that occur with online exams creates a real bind. When glitches occur with an online exam, student anxiety increases because students can't raise their hands and have the professor walk over and respond to the problem. A student contacted me in a panic during their first exam this semester, and I reached out to Donny for technical support. I called him as I was walking into a school to observe a student intern. I explained that it would be hours before I could follow the steps needed to correct the online exam. Donny quickly took over the corrections needed and said that he would take care of everything online. By the time I stepped out of the school, Donny had the problem corrected. My online students were relieved, and I was able to continue my face to face work with a student. In short, Donny's quick response to an online problem addressed the needs of both face to face and online students simultaneously. I appreciate his technical response which definitely showed care for student learning and this faculty member's work!

You don't find many young people like James. He could have told me no, but he didn't. I have been in customer service for 25+ years and on a scale from 1-10, his customer service would be rated a 20. He is an asset to VSYOU!

He's extremely knowledgeable and thorough, and I can count on him to provide the information I need to best serve our students. It's a pleasure to work with him!

Samantha Rountree, Print Services

I forgot that there was an open house on Nov. 1st and I submitted 2 orders for flyers with no due date. Every time I have had a special request or questions regarding PSP Webdesk she is always willing to help our department.

Because of a staff member leaving my department, I was given oversight and time approval for a large number of student workers that I was not fully prepared for. Sandra has been very professional in her emails and has been helpful in following up on timesheet discrepancies. Most of all, very understanding about problems I've had with submitting all of these things the way they should be.  Her helpfulness has really made a difference in regards to getting our students paid and helping me feel like I'm able to be effective with this new task I've been given.

Sometimes when planning an event, you get to work with people from around campus that you wouldn't normally get a chance to meet. Through this opportunity, I learned that there are many wonderful people that make up the Blazer work family. I am beyond grateful for the support provided by Patrick and his team. They worked tirelessly to remove long or dead branches hanging over Crane Plaza, cleared all of the leaves and branches from the courtyard, and made sure that the event lighting provided safety to all the guests in attendance. Douglas Parker, Physical Plant - Landscape and Grounds

I left a very sentimental coffee cup on the front lawn on 11/14/19 and was very upset. I was directed to Plant Operations and then Doug since his crew was working out there that day. He located my cup and hand-delivered it to me not two hours after I called him.

Sage Harris, Graduate School

Sage has helped draft a letter of intent we can send prospective students that states that a student will be guaranteed an assistantship and will receive a contract when the university makes them available. The letter of intent is a helpful tool when it comes to recruiting students as it gives them a written guarantee. One student who received one came into my office expressing she was in tears of joy on 11/14/19. Without his help, that moment would not be happening.

Paul Higgs, School of Health Sciences

I went to Paul for physical therapy. He and his wonderful student assistants were very helpful and supportive, always cheering me on and making me feel positive about the long process of recovery. Their skill and their humor and friendliness are marvelous. I can't thank them enough!

Kristen Jowers, College of the Arts Advising Center

A staff member wanted to attend an event with a unique location on campus. Kristen responded to the staff member and to the entire mailing list with the campus map and a detailed close-up map of the unique location. This is a wonderful form of support she could give to this event. We are thankful she stepped up and helped us without even being asked.

Karen Higgs, CONHS Director of Advising

Karen consistently goes above and beyond to meet the needs of faculty and staff.  During this week, with her own plate running over, she still made time to do whatever she could to help other faculty and staff accomplish their own to-do list. Thereby she puts the well-being of the students and the organization above her own. Thank you!

Margaret Duncan, Access Office

Tuesday 11/18/19, after a harrowing day on the road, then attending an awesome recruitment event in Columbus, GA, and a late evening hotel check-in, I ended up in the ER at 11 pm. My colleagues and travel companions sprang into action and took great care in treating my injury and finding a place to go for treatment. They all insisted on accompanying me to the ER. They provided a positive spirit, comic relief, and a constant stream of texts of encouragement while I waited for treatment. One of the many, many great things about VSU is our people; kind, giving, caring, generous, compassionate, dedicated, people. I am absolutely thankful that I was traveling with Margaret Duncan, Jenni Shinpaugh, Rozelle Slaymon, Theresa Grove, and Ryan Hogan. I very much appreciate their care and friendship that evening. What a great group of people- I can vouch for that.

Neal Culbreth, Student Financial Services

Due to some miscommunications, my daughter's financial aid was late to be released to VSU. Once those communications were cleared up, my daughter was originally told that there was no way to release her money until Dec 10th. I worked with Neal to get this resolved. I appreciate that Neal took the time to really push this through so that my daughter didn't have to wait an additional 2.5 weeks for loan money that is very badly needed. Thanks to Neal, we should have the funds shortly. His ability to understand the unique nature of the situation, and his jump to help correct a mess that he didn't make, was really, really appreciated. He walked into a storm and managed to make everything work out in the end, and we're all very grateful for that.

Sandra Barrios, VPFA & Budgeting Services

I am very grateful to Sandra for her patience and persistence in correcting a timesheet issue. She worked with me to correct the problem and when I was not getting it, she took care of it on her end. She could have ignored the problem and let the employee not get a complete paycheck, but she went above and beyond to make sure that did not happen. Thank you, Sandra!  I appreciate you!

Jeremy Hardin, New Media Center

Mr. Jeremy stayed late to help us figure out iron-on printing. He was very helpful and we appreciate it!

Jeremy Hardin, New Media Center

He stayed after hours to help us and was the nicest person!

Shonda Bryant, Human Resources

Thank you for the awesome customer service you provide for the HR department. Shonda is always so helpful whenever I have to call HR. Good job!

Tiffany Lee, Odum Library

I would like to thank Tiffany Lee for her exceptional customer service skills. She exhibits a "welcoming presence" at the circulation desk. I appreciate her quality service and willingness to go above and beyond her duties to assist patrons.

Matthew Flannigan, Office of Testing

All of my questions were answered and my concerns were addressed in a professional and courteous manner. I appreciate and applaud the customer service skills.

Kayah Brantley, Office of Testing

Sebrina Solomon, CONHS

Sebrina has been consistently able to step in and help complete tasks that are vital for our department to accomplish the goals set for the end of the semester. She does these tasks in a way that makes them seem very minor when we are well aware that often they are very time-consuming.

Rafiah Jenkins, CONHS

Rafiah has stepped into a role that requires much patience. She has done this with such grace and professionalism while making sure that we have everything that we need to get the job done. She is a perfect example of putting student success above all else even when not working directly with the students.

Catherine Storey, Procurement

The Amazon purchase process has been really rough this semester. I am new faculty and the learning curve for purchasing has been very hard. I brought it up to Catherine and others who are in charge of the process. Today I received an email that the system is being revised and will make getting what we need for the Theater Department so much easier. I am so grateful for her patience and her willingness to help at any moment.

Quinncy Thomas, IT

My family was visiting from out of state for Thanksgiving. We attended the VSU playoff game on Saturday 11/30. After a heart-wrenching loss to West Florida, we had a long walk back to the car. My dad is elderly and needs a walker or wheelchair to get around long-distances. As we exited the stadium, Quinncy saw us and offered my dad a lift on his golf cart. Quinncy took him to my truck and kept him company until we arrived. It was very nice of him to do that for him! I say this often and I mean it; one of the many, many great things about VSU is our people. They are kind, giving, caring, generous, compassionate, and dedicated people. Thank you, Quinncy!

Dr. Adam Safer, Biology

This semester I had two new preps with labs. One of them, AP2, was especially underperforming. Adam, with his considerable A&P experience, helped me out with every lab by visiting and troubleshooting issues. He also covered for me when I had to miss a lab exam. Thanks, colleague!

Jennifer Griffin, Bursary

Ms. Griffin has assisted me over the past year with receiving a short term loan to pay for classes. She has always emailed me with important information and responded to my emails in a timely manner.  The kindness and professionalism shown towards me along this journey are much appreciated.

Madalyn Holt, Library Reference Center

I was in the Music Room on the first floor of the library to just sit down and take a breather because I had just gotten out of an exam and I was feeling really bad about it. I didn't really want to talk much to anyone because I was upset with myself. She walked over while inspecting the room and talked to me about how I was feeling. She really made me feel a lot better about my exam and myself with how optimistic she was. Her friendliness, customer service, and caring nature were amazing. After that, I felt better about my abilities. The next day I found out that I actually passed that exam.

Daniel Oppel, Creative Services

Daniel has worked tirelessly for the Admissions Office in the final weeks before the holiday break. This exceptional effort went above and beyond, and therefore Daniel was able to complete several projects on a time crunch. This effort has put us ahead of schedule and will have a direct impact on the quantity and quality of students we will be able to recruit next semester. On an even more impressive note, this is not the first time Daniel has shifted his priorities to help us meet our goals. We couldn't imagine recruiting without him!

Sandra Barrios, VPFA & Budgeting Services

Sandra showed excellent customer service. She was positive and prompt in answering all of the questions I had regarding payroll. Employees supporting people the way Sandra did today makes VSU the great place to learn and work that it is. Thank you!
