Jason Gaskins, IT

About a week before the campus closed, my desktop computer was reimaged, so ultimately was like a new system. At that time, I did not think to check if my remote access from my home computer would still work. So on day 2 of our Christmas break, I discovered I could not remote into my work computer, and there were certain processes I needed to complete at specific times during the holiday. I truly hated to bother Jason during the campus holiday, but I did it anyway. And he immediately responded, taking time from his own personal enjoyment of our time off. Within a short time, he identified and resolved the issue, and I could remote into my desktop. He was very willing to help me, and I am very thankful for his exceptional commitment to VSU.

Benjamin Li, IT

I was transferred to Ben after speaking with another help desk employee who was unable to resolve my issue.  Once speaking with Benjamin, he proceeded to give a detailed explanation of the problem that was completely understandable as well as call directly to the technicians who needed to resolve the issue.  Up to this point, he had provided good customer service and resolved the issue to the best of his ability.  Where he took it a step further was to then continue to follow up with me once the issue had been resolved and to call back and make sure I experienced no further issues.  Benjamin Li has always been very helpful and attentive to the needs of those that rely on him at the help desk.  Thank you for talking to this panicked staff member and continuing to work until the issue was resolved satisfactorily!

He is an exceptional teacher and mentor everyday!

Shauna Branch, VSU Bookstore

Students had been asking employees at the bookstore how to transfer financial aid funds to flex (not something that they would be trained to know) so I called Shauna to ask if she would like me to send her information. Shauna went a step further and asked where to find the information on our website and said she would create flyers with instructions to give to.

Debbie Paine, Middle-Second-Reading and Deaf

I was having a mental breakdown after finding out that I had been ill advised for my classes, resulting in me being a semester behind what I thought I was. My husband recommended that I talk to Dr. Paine for advice. I broke down crying in her office and she consoled me. She helped me figure out where my advisor went wrong, find the classes I need, and helped me.

Mrs. Carter has gone above and beyond to be helpful in every way. She was extremely helpful in the open lab last semester. Nikki was able to get me registered into classes this semester despite some pretty big obstacles. She really put effort into helping me.

Marie Hart, Financial Aid

I was referred to Ms. Marie by one of her colleagues to assist me with a matter I was having difficulty with. I am grateful that Valdosta State has such caring staff to assist the student body. Experiences like this make me proud to be a Blazer. Thank to Ms. Marie and her coworkers.

Debra McCrary, Bursary

I contacted the Bursary office to assist me with a matter I was having difficulty with and was greeted by Ms. Debra. She advised me on steps that I should take to ensure that my matter would be handle in a timely fashion and also advised me on some other steps that I had not even thought about to take care myself. I appreciate Ms. Debra being an amazing and understanding person to me on yesterday, for I know without her assistance I would not have gotten as much done on such short notice that did. Glad to be a Blazer.

Chad Vantine, Information Technology Security

On 1/14/16, I made a request for the installation of surveillance cameras throughout several lab locations on campus.  These cameras will play an important role towards student safety and providing 24-security of VSU equipment.  Chad made the process of obtaining these cameras EXTREMELY smooth and easy.  What was expected to be weeks before the cameras could be quoted for installation, Chad managed to get the company on-site and quotes created within a matter of days.  Thank you Chad for your outstanding contributions!

Barbara Graham, Campus Services-Summary

he morning of January 22 brought torrential rains, and I got caught in it walking in.  As luck would have it, I was on my way to a meeting where I would serve as chair for the first time.  I was nervous, and then I was soaked to the bone - even my papers!  As busy as she was, Barbara stopped her work, found towels, helped me get things dried off, and even laughed with me.  Her upbeat spirit and shared laughter fixed everything - the sun came out that day because of Barbara Graham!

Marci Marshall, Nursing

Mrs. Marshall always went out of her way to ensure all of my questions were answered.  She always replied to my emails in a timely fashion.  Even when she did not know the answer she would refer me to someone that could help.  She also would send a reply to let me know she was working on an answer so I was not left in the dark wondering the status of  something.  I do not think I would have gotten into the Nursing program without her help.  She was always willing to go the extra step to help ensure everything was taken care of.  She even offered to help others at GMC with their nursing paperwork and ensuring they had completed the proper prerequisites for the program.

Lenora Willis, Housing

Lenora led an initiative on behalf of Housing and partnering with Chartwells where the Hopper dining hall was opened up for students and staff to prepare meals to be fed at a local food shelter.  Lenora, through this and other initiatives, has been actively seeking to engage with/care for the local Valdosta community.

Rex Devane, Media Services

Thanks very much for all of your help on a range of technical topics, from the cluster to working with students on media problems. One of our projects (a new line of antibiotics for TB) is hitting its stride now in part because of the great help from the media center and IT. A good milestone for this is the recent publication of a patent application (with 2 student co-authors), which was developed over several years of research.
The computer technology helped us minimize and better understand the molecular structures we were working with – and to help predict some of their medicinal activity. The compounds we selected to make in the lab were selected for pre-clinical trials at the National Institutes of Health for trials against the bacterium associated with tuberculosis. In addition to the research, this has allowed me to incorporate lots of new material and technology into classes like Antibiotics, Cancer Drugs, Medicinal Chemistry and Physical Chemistry. Again, thanks for your time, positive attitudes and great level of expertise! Both the students and myself are thankful!

Jen Fackler, VPFA and Budget Services

Jenny is always so helpful whenever I have questions about the budget. She is very quick to respond to my emails and she explains exactly what I need to do when I ask her a question.

Lorena was very helpful with speaking to a student assistant about majoring in Business. The student assistant has been trying to figure out their career path, and the information Lorena provided answered many of her questions.

Tim Yorkey, Employee and Organizational Development

I contacted Tim because I have a student assistant (SA) considering changing their major to Human Resources, and they wanted to speak to someone within the profession. Tim arranged a time to meet with the SA, and he asked a GA from his department to attend too. They were both very helpful to the student.

Madison Beaumarchais, Student Union Operations

I  called Madison to "confirm" an event that should have already been scheduled and a contract already signed.  Unfortunately, someone had not scheduled the event as necessary.  Within the span of a few hours, Madison was able to rectify the situation and get the ballrooms that were needed and the equipment taken care of so that our event could happen the way.

I called Langdale Hall front desk this morning at 0758 hours trying to locate a student that possibly lived there. Sampson took the call and was very professional and helpful. It’s not very often you contact someone that early and they are that friendly on the phone. I give a thumbs up to Sampson.

Teresa Williams, Graduate Surcharge

She went above and beyond to show me examples of previous thesis submissions when I had questions about my thesis, the format, and appointees to my advising committee. She sent me a template for the format of a thesis, and she was grateful and willing to help which is hard to find these days. Thank you so much, the university needs more willingness to help like this and more niceness to go around.

Throughout my Freshman year, Kirk has always been flexible for telephone advising since I am stationed at Moody AFB and work full time. I arrived early for a tutoring session and noticed that Jessica wasn't working with anyone.  I asked if she would be willing to look over my STATS project at some point in the week.  She offered to do so immediately and quickly put away what she was working on.  Her feedback was constructive and boosted my confidence in the work I'd completed.  Her attitude is always cheerful and focused on being as helpful as possible.

I have not had Professor Dowd in over 2 semesters, yet I have still been able to visit his office for guidance as I search for internships and careers when I graduate this upcoming May. Collin Tulloch, Building Services

In addition to Collin taking great care of the offices in the Bailey Science Center's extension he went above and beyond to unclog the sink in my lab.  The sink had standing water in it and after assessing the situation he went to find the right tools to unclog it, came right back and unclogged it.  That sink would still be clogged if he hadn't been there.

Brittany Blaschke, Office of Admissions

Let me once again thank you for the wonderful tours your staff provided our 6th graders this past week. Brittany, Mya, and Jamilla did an exceptional job explaining to our kids what it means to be a Blazer. Keeping a group of 20 6th graders engaged for any period of time can be a challenge. These ladies kept a group of 40+ fully engaged for the entire tour. We were very impressed. For many of our students, this was their first exposure to a college campus. They hear the word "college" all the time, but it remains an abstract concept. Now, it's real to them. I can't tell you how many kids I heard say, "I can't wait to go to college!" Again, this was only possible because of the exceptional staff you have assembled. This field trip was such a success, I would like to continue it each year. Thank you again for your help. I would like to personally recognize Brittany, Mya, and Jamilla for making us feel so welcome.

Brett Williams, Library

Mr. Williams offered my students exceptional information about Odum's library services during a Library Information Session. The students (mostly seniors) commented afterward that they wished they had been required to attend this session as freshmen, because the information about access to librarians for help with research and citations was so helpful. Mr. Williams made the students feel comfortable asking questions, and he went out of his way to ensure that they understood that the librarians WANT them to call, visit, or use the online chat to ask questions. He was great!

I had requested that Landon Lamb assist me with updating the Center for Business and Economic Research web site. Besides making two trips to reinforce his training, he noticed that my monitor was a bit fuzzy and a very old model. He offered to have it replaced and came back the next day with a new monitor. That is service above and beyond: Volunteering to come back for reinforcement training; as well as noticing a problem with my monitor that was adversely affecting my vision, and promptly providing a solution.

Ireland Stubbs, event Services

Last week, I put in a request to reserve a room. However, today when I called to see the status of the event, Mrs. Stubbs looked through the system and saw that the event had not shown up on their end. She told me how to fix the problem, so I again asked my department secretary to put in another request. I called back and Mrs. Stubbs informed me that the request was now showing up, but would take time to be approved (about 2-3 days). I pleaded for help because I needed the room confirmation today (you have to notify the graduate school two weeks in advance when scheduling your defense). Mrs. Stubbs went over and beyond to reach out to her supervisor and within an hour I received my room confirmation.

She was able to immediately rectify the situation by overriding me.

Rozelle Slaymon, College of Business Administration

On the morning of registration there was glitch in the system which was not allowing me to register for the classes I needed. I had checked how many seats were left in each class and there was not many. I was stressing that I would not be able to get into the class, so I emailed Mrs. Slaymon at 7:00am that morning and she responded with a quick resolution to my problem. She helped me out and got me into the classes I needed!

Keith Washington, Central Warehouse

Mr. Keith is always with a smile. Outstanding, "yes I can" attitude. He came in today to help me bring some boxes from upstairs in acct. He took the initiative to ask me about the filing cabinets and we moved them.

Corey Wasley, Information Technology

Somehow I locked my keyboard and I could not unlock it - I could not type anything - Corey quickly came up with a fix; he was a life saver and I appreciate so much that he got us moving forward again!

Nicole Lee, Admissions

Nicole had a very large tour yesterday and was super helpful answering all of their questions with a positive attitude. Nicole always goes above and beyond in our office for the families. Parents and prospective students raved about how awesome she is and how well she showed our campus. We appreciate her so much!

Ted Davis, Campus Mail

Ted is easily one of the friendliest and genuine people I have met during my time at VSU. He always has a positive attitude, a smile on his face, and always takes the time to make sure everyone is doing well. He treats everyone with kindness and respect and goes above and beyond to make a difference.

Sergio Brown, Central Warehouse

Lorrie Proal, Information Technology

Ms. Proal is unfailing patient and professional.  I entered a new item and she walked me through the process.  She provided the Category codes and also reminded us about a warranty for the product.  She is supportive and understanding and genuinely offers the best customer service.  Without her she could have not processed the # of requisitions we did. We appreciate your help!!!

Angela Uyeno, Internal Audit

Angela has recently gone above and beyond to ensure that our office is in compliance with USG policy and has been tremendously helpful. She has been extremely patient with all our questions and spends times actively seeking out solutions and answers for our office. Gerald Williams, Career Opportunities

Dr. Williams walked around to make sure everyone was taken care of, checked to see if system employees needed anything and dealt with an issue that involved someone on campus.

Steven Haineaut, Building Services

Our IT shop employees were working in uncomfortable climate conditions due to a non-functioning air conditioning unit.  Plant Operations HVAC techs Billy and Steven were determined to resolve the issue as soon as possible.  After literally rebuilding the HVAC unit by replacing the motor, belt, fan, ball bearings, and other parts, the AC was back running like brand new!  Really thankful VSU has an outstanding HVAC crew that truly care about the faculty, staff, and students!

Billy Barker, Building Services

Our IT shop employees were working in uncomfortable climate conditions due to a non-functioning air conditioning unit.  Plant Operations HVAC techs Billy and Steven were determined to resolve the issue as soon as possible.  After literally rebuilding the HVAC unit by replacing the motor, belt, fan, ball bearings, and other parts, the AC was back running like brand new!  Really thankful VSU has an outstanding HVAC crew that truly care about the faculty, staff, and students!

Carlotta Braswell, History

It was my first time to use the computer reimbursement program PeopleSoft and I really struggled.  While my college has a graduate assistant to provide help, the student is only available during certain hours; regrettably, that day, those hours were much later in the afternoon.  In the meantime, the red flags I was getting prevented me from saving my report and really I didn't want to lose all the data I had already entered.  I called Carlotta -- repeatedly -- and she helped me every time, never showing any signs of irritation or frustration.  I really appreciate how she went above and beyond to help a confused faculty member!

Alexandru Malos, Information Technology

Alex went out of his way to walk over to a classroom after class had finished to assist me with a printing issue. He was extremely helpful, as usual. Thank you very much!

James Bragg, Building Services

James Bragg's main job is to monitor and change air conditioning filters in all buildings on campus. But, James went beyond this recently when he also checked duct work and found problems and repaired onsite. This saved man hours and costs. I found this by reviewing completed work orders. This goes beyond the job duties and definitely is caring about the job.  Way to go James!

Sterlin Sanders, Information Technology

Sterlin is such a big help and always willing to assist with a smile.  He is definitely a major asset to IT and VSU. We appreciate his hard work and dedication! Thank you for all you do, Sterlin!

K-CI Walker, Catering

Excellent customer service. Very attentive during the event, making sure that everyone was comfortable and had everything they needed.

Susan Jones, Modern & Classical Languages

Ms. Jones works hard to accommodate many requests of students and faculty, which are not even within her duties. Last month, she helped me by getting information, filling out People Soft forms and doing arrangements for my travel expenses reimbursement. Thank you for saving my time and getting things done, Ms. Jones!

Mark Blackmore, Biology

Dr. Blackmore is by far one of the best biology professors VSU has to offer. He will go above and beyond his duty to make sure you understand a subject.

Amber Reece, STEM Center

Amber Reece is a FABULOUS ambassador to VSU.  She was kind enough to plan, schedule, and orchestrate a day-long field trip to VSU.  The students Skyped with a leading bee researcher, toured the college campus, visited an actual research lab, observed a live bee hive, participated in a math/art related activity in the STEAM lab, and much more! It was a GREAT day, thanks to Dr. Reece!

Deborah Paine, Middle-Second-Reading and Deaf Education

Dr. Paine is always willing to help our middle school and especially my Beekeeping Club.  She attends meetings MILES and MILES away, she engages the students and is ALWAYS willing to help me with "best practices".  PGM's Beekeeping Club could not survive without her guidance and input!  SHE IS FABULOUS! Thank you for sharing her with Lowndes County!

Steven Obst, Information Technology

Steven noticed some personal information that was going to get sent to students and questioned if it was more than needed.  In doing so, he helped to reduce the risk of personal information potentially falling into unauthorized hands.  Thanks for helping to protect VSU, Steven!

Markaysa ALWAYS goes above and beyond to help when I need a piece of hardware, cable or component to support a workstation in Admissions. Usually it is needed quickly and she always makes sure that we have what we need.

Set up 7 new adjustable work stations in a very timely manner, with a great attitude.

Christian Palaypayon, Information Technology

Set up 7 new adjustable work stations in a very timely manner, with a great attitude.

During our busiest time this semester, Regina Lee was so very kind to my team.  She provided lunch for all of us.  We were so surprised, but extremely grateful to her for this act of kindness.  Regina Lee embodies the true spirit of a Blazer and we are so fortunate to have her at VSU!  THANK YOU REGINA!

Dr. Teresa Grove went above and beyond for the Spring 2016 Biology Graduation Reception.  She went out of her way to make sure that the Reception for the Biology Graduates was a success by tirelessly putting up decorations that she purchased with her own money.  She also purchased a large cake with her own personal funds just to help make the event an even better success.  Kudos to Dr. Grove for going the extra mile.  I am sure the graduates and their parents appreciated all the hard work that she put into it.

Kyle Culpepper, Media Services

Kyle patiently assisted me with operating several Adobe programs . He didn't complain or object to answering my questions even when it was close to the department's closing hours! He always thoroughly, readily answers all questions and always has a smile. He provides excellent customer service to everyone in need of assistance within the media services department!

Na Ding, Information Technology

Na is an expert in her field and is always willing to go above and beyond. Whenever there is an issue that needs addressing Na is quick with assistance and is able to give a level of insight into reports, etc. that is hard to match. She never seems to mind when she is hard pressed for time. Even when she is swamped, she always has a smile and is willing to add one more query to her work list for a department in need.

Sharaya Johnson, Financial Aid Office

She was very efficient and polite, encouraging and pleasant. It is nice to have her at the front line of a busy and stressful time.

Sharaya Johnson, Financial Aid Office

She was and is awesome. Please keep her as long as possible.

Dr. Archibald is an amazing person. He works endless hours to support our students. I have seen the impact he makes on students. He has helped the division and VSU retain students and develop students.

Zonnya Lane, Accounting and Procurement

Zonnya has been amazing with all the assistance she has given me throughout my travel over the years. On 6-14-16, in particular, she stayed after 5:30 pm to make sure all my paperwork, expenses, reports, etc. were completed for this fiscal year. The entire time, she smiled and kept telling me "no problem" as I apologized for her staying beyond her normal working hours. Thank you Zonnya!

James LaPlant, Graduate Studies

Dr. LaPlant is always thoughtful, caring, compassionate, and has been amazing to work with over the years. He is quick to respond to emails and is ALWAYS a positive and inspirational person to be around. Thank you for all you do to assist faculty through your department!

Sharaya Johnson, Financial Aid

Helped me in a timely manner, very polite and answered all of my questions.

Sharaya Johnson, Financial Aid

Thank you for breaking down my award information for me and my mom. I'm the first to go to college, so this is new to us. You were patient with all our questions, and you stayed polite. My mom was impressed with your customer service, stay awesome, and good luck in school :)

Travis Nolley, Information Technology

Travis Nolley has consistently provided top level support to the University and to the team within Information Technology. The professionalism and hard work he gives every day deserves to be recognized.

Regina Lee, Human Resources

Regina went out of her way to make sure paperwork was received by Accounts Payable by the deadline after the first submission got lost in the mail. She personally walked the paperwork to Financial Services and followed up to make sure it was received.

James Archibald, Student Affairs

Outstanding service to the University and the Division. When Dr. Archibald took over the division it was leaderless and not in the greatest of shape. His hard work has help every area of the division and in turn made a huge impact for our students. It is because of people like Dr. Archibald that made the VSU experience special for our students.

Thomas Tarwater, Plant Operations

The facility management of the Communication Art's building is a wonderful example of campus pride. Mr. Tom Tarwater works hard to ensure our building is a great place to work. The fine details of how the building is maintained are often overlooked. We take for granted the pleasure of working in a clean building. With this focus in mind, when walking through our buildings one cannot help but notice there Is no dust, dirt, build-up, overflow of trash bins, or even accumulations on kick-plates. The overall condition of the building demonstrates workplace pride and highlights what VSU strives to be. I just wanted to say thank you for all your efforts and care you put into creating a wonderful atmosphere where we can work, teach, and excel.

Steven Obst, Information Technology

Steven got me set up with a new computer and assisted me even after hours to link it to my laptop at home.  He went above and beyond the call of duty.

Jeffery Eltzroth, University Police

I was bringing a number of things to my office to work on a Sunday and in the process of getting them into the offices locked myself out. I went to University Police and they very kindly dispatched Jeffrey Eltzroth to open the door for me saving me several hours before I could have located a co-worker on Sunday to let me in - it let me get back to work and I am very grateful - every minute counts when we are trying to meet the deadlines for the Original Budget submission - Thank you!

Kyle Culpepper, New Media Center

Kyle was willing to spend extra time working with me to get a project done with a really short deadline. His eye for design and expertise were invaluable and the result was a unique eye-catching banner that projects a message of professionalism with a friendly and caring undertone. Just what I was hoping for! Thanks tons, Kyle!

Jackie Morrison, Campus Dining

Exceptional! Mrs. Jackie ALWAYS greets you with a smile and a kind word. She goes above and beyond on a daily basis. In this case, I went in to buy coffee for a co-worker and when asked did I want to add half/half to it, I didn't know what the co-worker would want. She asked who the person was and to my surprise, she not only knew who the person was but knew how he most often takes his coffee. Impressive! Thank you for being YOU.

Tanisha Roberts, Campus Dining

Tanisha is simply a remarkable employee and person who is always kind, joyful and helpful. Recently, I went in to buy coffee for a co-worker and when asked did I want to add half/half to it, I didn't know what the co-worker would want. She, along with Mrs. Jackie, asked who the person was and to my surprise, they not only knew who the person was but knew how he most often takes his coffee. Impressive! Thank you for being YOU.

Nancy Deida-Carballo, Employment Administration

Over the last few weeks, I have worked closely with Nancy in order to hire the employees necessary to open our new VSU Solutions Center. This is a key IT initiative for this fiscal year, and the hiring process went smoothly, thanks in no small part to Nancy’s efforts and adaptability. Moreover, she displays a level of service excellence, enthusiasm, humility, and professionalism in every interaction that is an inspiration to us all. Thank you for all you do for Valdosta State University, Nancy!

Brenda Lispcomb, Registrar

Super helpful, very professional, great/warm attitude. Thank you!

Benjamin Li, Information Technology

Benjamin was professional and patient in helping me resolve an ongoing password issue. At first he tried to assist me as I worked through the reset process. When that didn't work, he completed the task for me and then stayed on the phone to ensure that my password was properly reset. Thank you Benjamin for helping me through a frustrating situation.

Clinton Cauley, Information Technology

Dwayne Trouille, Information Technology

Going above and beyond to help me convert our software program. Dewayne always responds quickly and is so patient when I do not know what I am doing. I really appreciate a lot of his help and his willingness to do whatever I need, when I need it. Thanks!!

Haylee Friel, Information Technology

Haylee shows excellent customer service each and every day. On July 26th 2016 she proposed an idea for a more direct path for applicants to VSU to be able to get specific questions related to test scores and transcripts without having to go through multiple people. By connecting applicants directly with their application processor Haylee is helping to provide excellent customer service to our future students. Great job Haylee.

Heather Kelley, Psychology

Dr. Kelley has gone out of her way to provide an exceptional learning experience throughout this semester. She has always been available and has provided excellent teaching and guidance. She has been one of the best professors I have had during my graduate school experience at VSU.

Joe Newton, Information Technology

Joe made sure that I had access to the Pharos printing system so that I could print information at Graduate Assistant orientations that could then be charged back to my department. While I realize that this does not seem like a big deal, for someone who doesn't know the procedure and wasn't sure where to turn - it was extremely helpful to have someone treat me like I wasn't asking a dumb question and help me kindly. Also, Joe made a point to follow up with me to make sure my request went through and that all was well - while giving me great tips on making the best use of my personal cellular device! Thanks for your caring and willingness to help the technologically inept among us.

Preyah James, Information Technology

Preyah was very helpful while dealing with a computer, printer, and a VOIP phone that needed to be moved. A problem occurred with the phone and she was very diligent in finding a solution. Preyah went above and beyond all while having a smile on her face and a very positive attitude.

Sarah Bring, Information Technology

For the last few years, I have done GA orientations each fall in Odum 2633 lab. Each of those years, I have had to load a file that contained forms onto each and every computer via flash drive each day of the orientation. As I often do, I kept thinking to myself that there must be an easier process for getting this done. I asked Sarah for her advice on this. Her immediate response was, "I don't know, but I am sure there has to be a way. Let me look into it." She did, and she found a way to make these paperwork sessions much more efficient and easy on me as the presenter. Thank you for taking extra time to help a singular soul - it made my day!

Susan Jones, Modern and Classical Language

As a student and doing work study some supervisors can be pretty hard on the students they decide to hire. And sometimes use their position to exploit their workers and make them do things that they aren't supposed to do. I happy to say that Mrs. Susan Jones is not one of them. And through her example in the way that she treats others and students is inspiring. Even though she feels she has to make everyone around her life easier. I know that she needs to recognize and shown some love for the way that she takes care of everyone and sometimes neglecting her own lunch to make things happen for students when it comes to advising and other time sensitive paperwork. She has also helped me in a time of need when I need some food and she opened up her own pantry to me because I had not been working long and my checks were barely covering things. She's also a very good listener and at times a good confident. She definitely needs to be recognized for all that she does even if she hasn't received and accolades so far.

Zaykeria Miranda, Employee and Organizational Development

I am enrolled in Partners for Campus Excellence hybrid class. I was having trouble taking one of the course test. I emailed Zaykeria. She called me, explained that she was not in the office, and wanted to make sure that I was able to complete the test correctly. Together we walked through the test, and I was able to take the test.

Adrian Taylor, Information Technology

Adrian and his team were able to help a student suffering from Heat symptoms. They were at there Ribbon cutting in an IT capacity, but as soon a student started having some issues they stepped in right away. This type of caring by the staff for our students shows them that we support them.

Alfred Reed, Information Technology

Mr. Reed worked closely with our NMC technician, Matthew Schaefer, to ensure that we have a hostname setup for each of our poster printers since the recent change to a dynamic IP from within DDI. Mr. Rothwell provided me great customer service through his expertise in networking services and access controls explained through DDI. Both of these experts used their craft to ensure that we could fully function for the upcoming fall semester. I am thankful for the great support that IT's networking services has provided the New Media Center. This department represents a workforce that is quick to assist and flexible with meeting the needs of departments across campus. Thank you both, Rocky and Alfred, for ensuring our network operates to its fullest. You both are wonderful ambassadors who reflect how great your whole area is.

Mark Mears, Dean's Office College of Arts and Science

Mr. Mears helped me make the transition from prof to department chair in many ways.  First, he always had sound advice for questions on procedures, obscure forms, or better ways to produce the same result.  Second, he was exceptionally patient and good-natured, even though the hectic nature of early August was clearly visible across campus.  Finally, he made his help seem more like a hobby than a job!

Jamae K. Flint, VPA and Budget Services

Today I had exceptional instruction from Ms. Flint.  I'm a newly minted department chair, and have never before used ADP.  To me, it seemed pretty complicated, but I must approve a staff members time card by tomorrow!  Thank goodness Ms. Flint knows this system in and out, was patient, and encouraged me to do well.  Please thank her!  I don’t have a clue about how to operate a payroll department, but having been at it since the 1980s, I can tell when I'm benefiting from the efforts of an excellent teacher.

McKenzie Hart, Accounting & Procurement

Ms. Hart went out of her way to help me navigate travel charges between two fiscal years and in a foreign currency.  I was only able to complete all the forms correctly because of her instruction, good nature, and patience.  I used to wonder how such a small department could efficiently and accurately handle so much money - when I meet people like McKenzie Hart, it is very clear we have super motivated financial wizards with superb people skills!  The fact that she can even teach professors to correctly fill out forms is just short of miraculous!

Rocky Rothwell, Information Technology

Luke Ellison, Housing

I would like to express both my personal and Key Shop staff appreciation for Luke and his efforts in assisting Key Control with key inventories in anticipation of the Fall move In. Luke was very focused on his task and willing to provide whatever assistance needed to  provide the best possible service to our students. He is a Bright Star in the Housing Office and should be commended for his efforts.

Davelyn Hart, Financial Aid

Mrs. Marie was very kind in helping me with my financial aid. She calculated all my awards for me and gave me suggested advice on what I should do.

Brian Anderson, Information Technology

I ran into a technology issue in the classroom and the IT unit to summon.  Brian anticipated the problem and had me 'up and running' in no time.  Thank you Brian.

Nicole Cox, Communication Arts

Professor Cox worked throughout the summer in an effort to better organize course scheduling. This effort involved researching past course offerings, coordinating with faculty to accommodate preferences, and working with students to facilitate graduation.

Jason Brown, Mass Media

Professor Brown volunteered to go through each student’s advising file to make sure that students will graduate in a timely manner. This activity entailed reviewing files, contacting students as needed to change schedules, and processing waivers to facilitate graduation.

Deborah Robson, Communication Arts

Professor Robson volunteered to go through each student advising file to make sure that students will graduate in a timely manner. This activity entailed reviewing files, contacting students as needed to change schedules, and processing waivers to facilitate graduation.

Stanley Jones, Registrar

Fall 2016 is the first semester that VSU has implemented a single fee payment deadline date. Stanley was conscientious of this and assisted the Bursary by spelling out for the students what actions they needed to take to ensure that their classes were not dropped.  Stanley's action embodied "Citizenship" from the Blazer Creed.

Samantha Paul, Odum Library

Samantha helped our department with the MLIS new student orientation in peer advising session and the Amazing Race. She re-shelved the heavy National Union Catalogs we used during the Amazing Race on her own when she really did not have to do that. She did that because of her thoughtful and caring personality. We thank you, Samantha!

Shana Yorkey, Budget Services

Shana took time to meet with me in great detail regarding some budget reconciliation issues I was having. I greatly appreciate her assistance!

Jan Fackler, Budget Services

Jan took time to meet with me in great detail regarding some budget reconciliation issues I was having. I appreciate her always going the extra mile to assist with questions.

Dahnea Finkley (on behalf of the Residence Hall Association), Housing and Residence Life

While I'm writing this to Dahnea, it goes to the larger Residence Hall Association (RHA) student organization. This group went out of their way to plan for the arrival of first-year students in order to plan fun events for them to do once they arrived to VSU.  I'm incredibly proud of this group for how they helped with move-in (including physically moving items into students rooms) but also for their selflessness when it comes to welcoming Young Blazers to campus.

Tom Parnell, Key Shop-Non Auxiliary

Tom came on site to Centennial Hall to help one of our graduate hall directors figure out a key situation where several keys were needing to be verified to be correct, plus also cutting some keys for when some had been lost.  Tom's understanding and willingness to help made a potentially bad situation into a much better one.

Destiny Craig, Student Recreation Center

Destiny was one of the many people who volunteered to help first-year students move into their residence hall and while I am grateful to all of our helpers, Destiny went above and beyond in that when several other people took breaks, she stayed and continued helping.  Several cars were unloaded by her and her alone and during times when things could have easily fallen apart, Destiny kept things going. I am very appreciative of her selflessness and how she worked to welcome Young Blazers to campus.

Temekia McNair, Financial Aid

Thanks again for the help yesterday. I was in, freak out mode and I appreciate your calm assistance. She didn't just provide information, she cared about what was happening. That's a rare commodity in the workforce. Thanks again, friend.

Katie Rowland, Odum Library

I'm a student athlete here at VSU so my free time is limited. Katie helped me locate a few books and took the time to help show me exactly what I needed to do to order books from the library. She was patient, super nice and very resourceful.

Brittany Parks, Admissions

Brittany stayed late to help work on testing a new process of printing postcards for prospective students. She patiently tested and retested our new process to make sure all data was printed correctly. Great work Brittany.

Darrel Jones, Admissions

Darrel stayed late to help work on testing a new process of printing postcards for prospective students. He patiently tested and retested our new process to make sure all data was printed correctly. Great work Darrel!

Adrian Taylor, Information Technology

Steve came in early on Saturday morning to open the library building and turn on all the lights for the MLIS new student orientation. The library doesn't open until 12:00 on Saturdays so the MLIS faculty is most appreciative of Steve's willingness to come in early to help us get ready for our orientation activities.

Anissa Bowers, Public Administration

She assisted me in guidance to which classes to take. She lined the classes up for me for the spring, summer, and fall. She monitored and evaluated my progress each semester. She was motivator.

Brittany Ingram, Financial Aid

Aid upset because my daughter was having a hard time getting information.  Brittany answered the phone and it was obvious that I was upset, but she remain calm. Ms. Ingram was very professional, yet caring.  She answered my questions and even gave me additional information to assist me.  And she did it all with a good attitude!  It is people like Brittany Ingram who uphold the great reputation of caring at VSU.  Thank you Brittany Ingram!  I am praying for you!

Chelsea Wells Holcombe, Campus Recreation

Chelsea was able to use her knowledge and experiences with these event to help the department put together a very well done ribbon cutting. She work very hard on this event on top of all her other duties going the extra mile to get things done. Thank you.

David Pulliam, Information Technology

Redesigned our hold placing system.  Was very instrumental in helping us automate processes in Admissions this will help us save time and serve students more efficiently.

Holly Lustfeldt, Financial Aid

We are so thankful for your help as we clear up financial aid for our son. Please accept this token of our appreciation.

Jean Smith, Financial Aid

Ms. Jean was a blessing! She was very patient, informative, kind, and courteous while assisting me and my daughter with our information. She was also explained everything that I needed to do, so that I understood. SHE ROCKS!

Jeff Hodge, Plant Operations

Our ice/water machine at the Student Health Center stopped working and was leaking as well! Jeff was pleasant and patient and didn’t stop until it worked again and the leak was solved. The students and staff both benefit from this machine and Fall Semester was just starting.  We are appreciative of his persistence and his attitude was great!

Joel Chisholm, Campus Recreation

Joel respond to a student suffering from some heat symptoms. By providing superior care Joel was able to help this student get out of the heat quickly.

Keisha Roberts, Information Technology

Over the course of Summer 2016, Keisha developed a dashboard application for our VSU Solutions Center that helped us provide more efficient service to students looking to join the VSU family. This was facilitated by consolidating data from over 15 different locations of our student information system into a single page. What especially stood out about this process was the level of collaboration throughout the project. We conducted several meetings with Admissions and IT that resulted in the application being both intuitive and tailored directly to serving the needs of our prospective students. Likewise, even now, over a month after the application was deployed, Keisha still provides rapid response and great customer service when we need a change made to the application.

Mark McNalley, Housing

Mark has been instrumental in helping me transition into my new position here at VSU.  Moving from the Resident Life side to the Operations side along with moving institutions has been challenging in many ways and Mark has really been there to help me.  By helping me think things through, offering me advice and support, and just asking me how I am doing on days when he sees my smile fade just a little.  He is the best co-worker I could have hoped for :)

Michael Holt, Odum Library

I was really frustrated because for some reason the printer was not allowing me to print certain documents off. I had tried everything and had given up. I decided to use the Odum Chat with a Librarian and told Mr. Holt about the problems I was having. Instead of ridiculing me he was really nice and offered to print off the document for me! It was awesome and I am so thankful that he helped me!!! Thank you so much Mr. Holt!!!

Michael is always happy to help with the MLIS new student orientation and his help is greatly appreciated. This semester he presented the library orientation after lunch and moderated the peer advising panel at the end of the day on Friday.  Students commented positively on both activities.  Our thanks to Michael for his ongoing support of the MLIS program and its students.

An afternoon session on the resources available to MLIS students on the VSU website followed by a panel of peer advisors Q & A session for new students that Michael moderated!

Quentin Reed, Greek Life

I am citing Quentin, because I know him, but really this goes to the larger Phi Beta Sigma fraternity who came out to help first-year students move into the Residence Halls.  Over the course of two days, these young men helped unload cars, give directions to parents, assign parking spaces to families and most importantly - serve as a warm welcome to campus for students and parents.   I am very appreciative of the work they did, and the hours they dedicate themselves to helping new Blazers feel welcome.

Sarah Bolduc, Information Technology

Sarah was a creative problem solver.  Last year and in previous years when I have done orientations for Graduate Assistants, I have had to physically load forms onto the desktop of each computer with a flash drive.  When I began to think that there MUST be an easier way to do this, I talked with Sarah about this.  She immediately agreed to take on the challenge.

Sheila Hall, Information Technology

Sheila always takes the time to assist others and if she doesn't know the answer she will keep looking into the issue until it is resolved. I appreciate her help!!

Steve Scheuler, Odum Library

Steve came in early on Saturday morning to open the library building and turn on all the lights for the MLIS new student orientation. The library doesn't open until 12:00 on Saturdays so the MLIS faculty is most appreciative of Steve's willingness to come in early to help us get ready for our orientation activities.

Susan Jones, Modern and Classical Languages

Mrs. Jones has been very very helpful. She has been helping me with a great deal of information and guidance of what classes to register for. I came in late to speak with her and she was willing to stay and advise me with my classes. Thank you very much for your time.

Tim Yorkey, Employee and Organizational Development

Since my first day at VSU, Tim has been outstanding! He has represented VSU in the best way! Tim exemplifies the Spirit at the heart of Blazer nation! Enjoy retirement Tim! You earned it!

Wanda Stracener, Financial Aid

Words cannot express the level of professionalism and integrity that I received today in the financial aid office.  I know that this is a very busy time of the year and students are all over the place.  But Ms. Wanda Stracener went beyond the call of duty today in helping me understand exactly what was needed to help my daughter.  She cares about my daughter, she

Xavier McCormick, Plant Operations

Service was the exceptional work that was done in cleaning and finishing the floors in the art studios.  These floors take a lot from the traffic and accidental spills and whatever that take place on them throughout the fall, spring and summer.  Mr. McCormick's work was noted by other faculty members and students.

Joe Newton, Information Technology

Joe has been a huge help in our Fusion integration but on this day he was at the SRC working very hard to get this project completed. We greatly appreciate his help. Thank Joe for a great job and your service.

Haylee Friel, Information Technology

Haylee Friel stopped me in the hallway one day after she heard I was the interim department head of English. She offered to help me transfer ownership of the English student email list whenever it was convenient. I finally emailed her, and she called me immediately, walking me through how to add and remove members and transferring me to Travis Nolley, who transferred the ownership immediately. I appreciate Haylee's being proactive about reaching out to help.

Theresa Collins, Admissions

Theresa assisted in the Office of Financial Aid during our peak processing period and assisted many students in their quest to receive financial aid.  She was able to help us assist hundreds of students each day.  Without her assistance, the lines for service in our office would have been much longer.  Thank you, Theresa!

Arthur Rinberger, Information Technology

I had a tragedy strike my loved one that required my attention. I just transferred to one of my dream jobs in IT and this was my second week there. When I approached Art regarding what happened without hesitation he asked me what I was still doing here and to go be with my family, he told me to take the day off and let him know if I need more. Art without any hesitation understood I needed to be home and made sure everything was arranged again for me to be with them. I was faced with a very difficult decision because while I really wanted to be with them, I knew I had a responsibility to my work. Art made that decision much easier on me and allowed me to focus on what was very dear to my heart at that time. This action while it may seem small meant the world since this has been a sudden and difficult time. I am glad to have him as a supervisor and to be part of the wonderful IT Programming team here. I could not leave this unnoticed, you are a stellar example of the tight knit community here at VSU and what makes our university one the best!

Alexander Persons, Housing

Alex and the other RAs did a fantastic job making me feel safe during Hurricane Hermine. Plans were made to evacuate in case the wind picked up too much. When the power went out, Alex knocked on my door to ask if I was okay, and he patrolled the hallways- making sure everything/one was okay. Thanks Alex!

Susan Jones, Modern and Classical Languages

Susan went above and beyond to assist the online criminal justice majors in obtaining needed signatures to complete a late add request. For online students this can be a difficult task to complete as they are not able to go to individual professors and department heads to obtain signatures. Thus, the process is often done via email and can take longer than it would had they been on-campus. Susan coordinated contacting the professors in the Modern and Classical languages department and working with the department head to obtain the needed signatures relatively quickly. The students and I are grateful for the care she provided.

Leslie Williams, Plant Operations

During the summer break, the Aquatic Laboratory (BSC 1053) was running short on paper towels. I happened to pass Ms. Leslie as she was attending to facilities maintenance. I asked Ms. Leslie if she knew where I could find a pack of paper towels for the lab. She provided helpful info in requesting supplies for the lab.
Since then, I have noticed rolls of paper towels being placed into the aquatic lab. Instead of discarding the partially-spent rolls from bathroom dispensers, Ms. Leslie has regularly been providing these for lab use. Not since her contributions began has my laboratory had to deal with paper towel shortages.
Ms. Leslie's thoughtfulness has been a great help to my duties, as well as a great example of resource use efficiency. Resources that might have otherwise been disposed of are now reused to the very last towel.
Ms. Leslie is an exemplary of kindness, interdepartmental cooperation, and the effective use of products sourced from natural resources.
On behalf of the BSC 1053 Aquatic Lab, thank you, Ms. Leslie.

Laura Carter, Nursing

Ms. Carter has taken upon herself to reach out to both students and faculty to ensure a seamless transition to using Exam Soft in the School of Nursing.  This has not been an easy task.  Few appreciate change, some of us are simply technology challenged, and many fearful of what will go wrong.  Ms. Carter has remained upbeat while giving up her own free time to assist one and all.

Latonia Powell, Plant Operations

"I like my building to be super clean!"  That's what Ms. Latonia Powell just told me as she started to provide VSU History with some TLC late Friday afternoon.  I've noticed Powell working very hard over the last month, always with a smile and friendly hello.  She is VERY respected by the History Department, and her fan-base extends too many other folks in this building.  As icing on the cake, our exterminator told me "You have very few bug issues, mainly because Latonia keeps your building so clean."  Please thank Latonia for doing her job so well and with such a friendly attitude.

Vincent Spezzo, eLearning

Vince figured out a solution for a problem in BlazeVIEW that no one else could, not even the online help from D2L. Even though I had already created a ticket (so there was no reason he had to return my email), he checked it, found the problem, and walked me through the solution so that I would know what to do next time. A faculty member needed access to materials in BlazeVIEW, and we couldn't find out why she didn't't have that access. In addition, his calm persona is priceless in such a situation.

Jeffery Hodge, Plant Operations

Jeff has helped us out with numerous issues we recently experienced and continues to help us answer questions at a moment's notice. He is very helpful with his follow-up conversations after repairs are made to see if it works well for those of us working in the building. Thank you for your help, Jeff.

Kanan Simpson, Information Technology

Kanan improvised a work around for a service that currently is not supported for our Apple presenter. This was accomplished under a time crunch and works exceptionally well.

Lorrie Proal, Financial Services

I was having problems entering a requisition in the system and Lorrie explained the changes with the vendor and vendor number.  She quickly researched the information and replied.  She always provides exceptional customer service.  Thank you Lorrie!

Jeffery Hodge, Plant Operations

Our ice machine was out of order for some time, but Mr. Hodge kept us informed about the delays as he was fixing it.  When I came in to work on a Friday morning, Mr. Hodge left a note on my desk and it stated our ice machine was fixed, and he left his number just in case we had any issues.  He didn't’t have to leave the note, but it showed just how dedicated he was to providing great, quality service, and I appreciate his time and diligence.

Ernest Smith, Human Resources

Ernest is always available to assist with hiring questions. His friendly demeanor and patience are much appreciated! Thank you so much for all you do!

Matthew Flannigan, Information Technology

Matt saved ticket sales for the VSU Box Office. In just a few short minutes, Matt completed a job that had been on going for 3 days. Thank you Matt!

JB Desselle, Admissions

Just wanted to send you a note, that JB is awesome.  He is enthusiastic, personable and speaks very well.  Kudos!

Tim Brunt, Plant Operations

Tim has been monitoring the air flow in my office in the University Center for a very long time now, trying out many different attempts at a solution and regularly stopping by to check on the temperature.  While I think that he may have finally found a solution, I am nominating him for this award because he never forgot about me or stopping thinking about the next fix he might employ on my behalf.  Tim truly embodies the idea of caring that this award represents!

Davelyn Marie Hart, Financial Aid

I had a lot of questions for Ms. Marie, she answered and explained each to her knowledge, was very helpful in getting my situation handled, and very nice.

Lai Kent Orenduff, Art and Science Department

Dr. Lai is an amazing advisor, she is very helpful and nice, I had a lot of changes this week dealing with my tracklist for graduation and she was very patient and understanding with me.

VSU Counseling Center Staff

Dr. Tricia Hale and the entire staff at the VSU Student Counseling Center did a fantastic job in organizing and putting on the Mental Health Wellness Day at Palms Quad on Wednesday September 28, 2016.  The event was well attended by students.  I heard a lot of positive comments from students who attended the event.  Dr. Hale and her staff are constantly looking for new ways to connect with our students and provide them with positive experiences on campus! Great job VSU Student Counseling Center Staff!

Caleb Leon, Admissions

Caleb was one of the University Ambassadors working the Mocktails and Mingling event last night at HSBA.  Around 6:20 PM there was an incident with a student that had to be transported to the emergency room.  Caleb demonstrated exactly why he was chosen to represent VSU as an ambassador!  He remained calm and comforting.  He assisted the student to the hospital, while he stayed with the student so he wasn't’t alone in the waiting room.  Caleb is a fine young man and very deserving of recognition for his Blazer pride and compassion for another fellow student. We are so proud of him and so thankful we have him as a Student Assistant in the Admissions office!

Regina Lee, Human Resources

Regina always goes above and beyond to assist anyone with questions; even when they do not involve the Human Resources Office. She is very helpful and has great patience when dealing with everyone. Her customer service is amazing! Thank you so much Regina for everything you do!

Catherine Wills, Human Resources

Catherine was and continues to be a wonderful resource as we navigate the many facets of the retirement process.  She is personable, highly knowledgeable, and always professional! Catherine is an asset to Human Resources at VSU.

Brittney Bartholomew, Admissions

Brittney has done an EXCEPTIONAL job presenting to my students!  She was very prompt, professional, and versatile.  If possible, I would like for her to visit my classes yearly.  Thank you so much for allowing her to present to my classes!

Trish Taylor, Student Life Office

I swear, you are one of the most reliable parts of Valdosta State University. Literally speaking, I have gotten emails from you during hurricanes, campus-wide mass protests, floods---and there are likely a few calamities I’ve missed. “Pillar of the community” is a label that by no means overstates your contributions. Not only to the VSU campus, but for the USG system as a whole. You are a defining example of how electronic communication can improve and maintain the ties that create Blazers for life. Looking forward to your next colorful communication!

Cliff Giddens, Information Technology

Thank you, Mr. Giddens, for your stalwart efforts to help us retrieve a great deal of lost data.  Giddens patiently listened to our imperfect description of power points lost in what to us seemed an impossible maze of the Cloud.  He recovered everything, did this rapidly, and made the entire project seem like his hobby.  We're lucky to have such bright, cheerful, and good natured folks working at Valdosta State University.

Tim Brunt, Building Services

Tim is always a professional and eager to ensure a satisfactory outcome to any work order he has.  We have had some issues with our new office location having extreme temperature changes, however only in certain locations.  He stuck with it and monitored our offices, as well as researched possible solutions to a satisfactory end.  It is a pleasure to work with someone that is so dedicated to exceptional customer service.

Beverly Porter, Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice

Ms. Porter has been a huge help as I've been learning about the VSU budget process.  She has helped me with paperwork, online requests, and general assistance so that I can ensure people get paid and paperwork is submitted online.  She is a true team member; always ready to lend a hand.  We are lucky to have her!

Chioma Madueke, Human Resources

Chioma was wonderful! There was a problem on the People Admin side that Student Employment had been working with me for almost a week to resolve. I had great assistance from Nancy through this time to attempt to isolate the issue. On the third attempt to resolve the problem Nancy was out and Chioma was there to step up to the plate. She was very sweet and personable while on the phone. Chioma looked more into the problem with the assistance of Michael and quickly came up with a final solution that worked. I appreciate all the hard work that the Student Employment office has put in. I also greatly appreciate the level of customer service Chioma provided. Nancy, you have a great GA who was able to provide outstanding customer service. Also, thanks to Nancy for getting us to the point where we could resolve the People Admin issue.

Billy & his HVAC crew,  Building Services

Billy and his HVAC crew repeatedly address our needs with air conditioning service in our building. When the air goes off, the humidity goes up, and the working conditions become unpleasant. Billy's response is always timely, his attitude is superb, and he keeps us informed about the problem and the solution. He is gracious, kind, and highly professional even when those who are uncomfortable get frustrated. Thanks!!!

Ernest Smith, Human Resources

With the impending rollout of the FLSA changes, I, like many others, have been very unsure how the new payroll process will work. I have bombarded Ernest with many questions and scenarios on multiple occasions. He invariably takes the time to fully discuss the issues with me and when he doesn't have a firm answer, he researches and always follows up. In this period of upheaval and uncertainty, I cannot express how helpful it is to have someone as knowledgeable and helpful as Ernest (and all the other good folks in HR) to guide us through the transition.  Thanks Ernest!

Helping make open house and the student counsel a huge success. Thank you!

Nicholaus  Clinite, Data Warehouse

I was asked to generate a report that required information from Data Warehouse. Nicholaus was sent my lengthy request after 5:00 p.m. He was informed I had to submit a report the next morning. He stayed late in the office to generate the report for me. I greatly appreciate Nicholaus staying until 6:30 p.m. to complete the requested report! This is not the first time Nicholaus has provided excellent service. Thank you so much, Nicholaus.

Emily Cantonwine, Biology

Professor Cantonwine agreed to be a part of the Leadership Lowndes Education day.   Leadership Lowndes is a select group of 30-40 business leaders from around Lowndes County.  Professor Cantonwine decided to take us on the Whitehead Camellia Trail and highlight how several departments worked together to get this trail in shape to start promoting to the community, schools, students, etc. She explained the history and the importance of the plants to the environment. We really appreciate Professor Cantonwine taking time out of her schedule to educate the group on the collaboration going on at VSU.

Theodore Uyeno, Biology

Professor Ted Uyeno was a part of Leadership Lowndes Education day. Leadership Lowndes is a select group of 30 - 40 business leaders from around Lowndes County. Professor Uyeno was asked to be a part of the day and without hesitation agreed to demonstrate what he did in his lab and how his research brought value to VSU, the community and his students.  He was an excellent speaker and we appreciate him giving us 30 minutes out of his day to help educate the community leaders on the Biology Department.

Adrian Taylor, Information Technology

A huge thank you to Adrian Taylor for always being a team player. I can't count how many times Adrian has helped me as well as anyone else around him in other departments with a lending hand and a smile on his face; just as he sat with me and helped swipe people on the bus for Wild Adventures night this week after work hours. I'm so grateful that I am able to call him a colleague and friend at VSU. Thank you!!

Mykhael Walker, Information Technology

I was having issues with a report request and Mykhael was very kind as to help me with this report to make sure I received the information I needed and that it was correct. Thanks Mykhael for all you do to support your fellow workers.

Vanessa Johnson, Building Services

Vanessa took the time to get two extra homing coming t-shirts for myself and my co-worker in Work Management at Plant Operations. This was very thoughtful of them, since we do not work on main campus and rarely get to the campus to enjoy the ongoing activities of the University.  Thanks again to Vanessa for her thoughtfulness.

Ramona Wing, Building Services

Ramona took the time to get two extra homing coming t-shirts for myself and my co-worker in Work Management at Plant Operations. This was very thoughtful of them, since we do not work on main campus and rarely get to the campus to enjoy the ongoing activities of the University.  Thanks again to Ramona for her thoughtfulness.

Entire Department, Student Health Services

The outstanding personalized custom care and professionalism. They are the best team/department of the entire campus. Thank you deeply!

Fernanda Contreras, Centennial Hall

As a University Police Dispatcher, my coworkers and I often work closely with Housing and Residence Life's, Resident Housing Directors and Assistants to help keep things running smoothly and to take care of our students.  Fernanda's concern for her community and her radiant positivity often shines through in our interactions. On the night of November 3rd and 4th, Fernanda assisted UPD in locating a student who was in need.  Her dedication and compassion for her community was instrumental in getting this student the care they needed in a timely manner.

Lenora Willis, Housing Coordinator

I would like to commend Lenora Willis, Housing and Residence Life Staff member for her role in an incident that occurred on the evening of November 3rd/4th.  Lenora and other members of the Housing Team were instrumental in assisting University Police in locating a student in need, and in helping them get the timely and compassionate care that they needed.

Her prompt response to my situation and her genuine concern for me made me feel valued and respected as a student. I would also like to note that this is not the first time Dr. Sewell has helped me; from the beginning of my graduate program she has always offered her assistance whenever I needed it. I am very grateful for everything she has done for me! Thank you!

Debbie Wisenbaker, Athletics

After realizing that an employee's time card did not have any hours recorded and the approval deadline was already over, Debbie went out of her way to get the hours from the employee, get them entered in eTime and keep in contact with the payroll department so we would be aware of the situation. And this is not the first time Debbie has had to do this - thanks Debbie for looking out for fellow employees!

Deborah Paine, Middle-Second-Reading and Deaf Education

Dr. Paine volunteered to help in the Pine Grove Middle School Beekeeping Club's Honeybee Parade float.  Not only did she dedicate HOURS and HOURS with 30+ middle school kids AND parents, but she managed the kids and walked the entire route.  She ALSO stayed until every LAST child was picked up!  She is a SUPERIOR Community Partner in Education for our school!  Thank you, VSU, for sharing her with the education community!

I would like to express a HUGE thank you to Adrian for his support - he made a tremendous difference to the College of Business!

When providing help to a large event, Brittany showed great leadership and customer service.  Brittany has been a part of the U Crew for a few years now and always goes above and beyond to cater to the needs of the different Student Organizations who use the spaces in the Student Union.  The Office of Student Life is very thankful for Brittany's hard work!

Marsha Walden, Advising

Dr. Walden was extremely helpful in assisting a few of my students with information to understand the medical withdrawal process and how it will affect their GPA.  When I called, Dr. Walden picked up the phone, stopped what she was doing and assisted these students.  I am very thankful she took the time to provide specific detailed information on how the withdrawal process with effect their GPA, so they were able to make an informed decision about their educational career on top of dealing with difficult like stressors and mental health issues.  These students left my office relieved that they made the best decision for themselves and their future.

Sarah Thomas, Health Sciences

Over the last six months, I have had the opportunity to watch Sarah interact with a wide range of individuals at the Wellness Center.  I am always amazed by her ability to meet the various needs of all her clients, the sincere interest she displays, and the personal attention she provides to each person.   Her positive attitude is infectious.  Making significant changes to my lifestyle (exercise/healthier eating) seemed daunting at first, but Sarah’s constant guidance, support, and encouragement turned road blocks into mere obstacles.  While I have never been one to enjoy exercise, I look forward to my appointments at the Wellness Center.  It is great to know that I have someone who not only challenges me but who is also my champion and genuinely wants to see me succeed.  Thanks.

Stacey Wright, Library

I called Stacey about questions about book rebinding/restoration. She answered all of my questions with such a positive and helpful manner. Then followed up with an email with additional resources that she researched into after our phone call. Stacey was such a pleasure to work with on this issue!

Tim Brunt, Plant Operations

I put in a work order to have our heating adjusted. When Tim arrived, he made sure to ask a variety of questions so as to ensure his adjustments would be best for our office. He then got to work setting the various configurations needed to keep the temperature consistent and comfortable. He made sure to stay in our office to monitor the system to make sure everything was running as it should. On Thursday, he stopped by the office just to see if we were all comfortable with the changes he had made. We appreciate that he took the time to come back as it shows he really cares about all of us here at VSU.

Melissa Nolley, Graduate School

Melissa typically handles our main office front lines, so she remains extremely busy everyday assisting our applicants and students via the phone or in person. We received an unreadable transcript for an applicant at our November deadline; Melissa somehow found and took the time to contact the other university on behalf of the applicant - and did so, for the next two days until the matter was resolved. She could have passed that responsibility off to the specialist for the program or to the applicant himself, but she chose to help all parties as much as she could during a high volume deadline. Melissa is always friendly, warm, and supportive, but she truly went above and beyond for this one person and I truly feel that she is deserving of recognition for that.

Antonio Scantlebury, New Media Center

Antonio helped me scan several old pictures and save them on a jump drive.  He was very nice and helpful.  He made sure I had everything I needed before I left.  I really appreciate him taking time to make sure everything was just right!

Ben McCranie, Building Maintenance

Ben took time out of his lunch break to make an initial check on my key/lock issue.  He was quick to respond, kind, and worked to correct my issue as soon as he possibly could.  What a great asset he is to the VSU team!

Kyle Culpepper, New Media Center

Kyle is the absolute greatest. He helped me in a high-stress situation and I just want to say THANKS!

Corey Wasley, Information Technology

I asked Corey to look at a strange message on a couple of computers and he did immediately and determined the fans needed replacement.  He had 2 IT guys repair them within 30 minutes. Corey always gives superb customer service and never fails to follow up that the work order was completed to my satisfaction.

Ryan Waller, Information Technology

Ryan was so patient with myself and the employees from Plant Services. We needed a lot of help looking up usernames and passwords - some of which proceed challenging to find - for employee compliance and he helped us multiple times with a smile on his face.  He even talked us through what he was doing so that we were engaged in conversation while he was helping us.  It really made the morning go much smoother.

Yvonne Leroy-Landers, Finance & Administration

You helped me with a very critical matter. I so appreciate it. You're always a big help so I wanted to make sure to recognize you for it. You deserve it. Thanks for everything you do.

Karin Rubin, College of Education & Human Services

Superior assistance and guidance was given to me when questioning transferring as well as future goals and guidelines!  Encouragement and positivity level much higher than other offices called.

Cheryl Coleman, College of Education Student Advising Center

She would and still does send inspirational emails all semester. She really lets it be known that she cares about your future and how she wants you to succeed. Her compassion and great sense of humor really shines through in her emails. She gave a lot of motivation in her latest email about finals. Someone just simply telling you how you know the material and will do just fine can make such a big difference in your confidence.

Martha Laughlin, Marriage and Family Therapy

Martha strives to give every student she encounters in the program, the best opportunity at being the best them they can be.

Wes Duke, Information Technology

Wes worked with Clinton Cauley and myself from IT to resolve a major problem for Christy Croft that was preventing Christy from running the VSU Mail Merge letter mail merge and letter printing application to print Admissions letters.  This was a big deal for Christy as she was under a deadline to get letters printed.  Wes quickly confirmed our diagnosis that the problem was connected with Landesk Antivirus, identified settings causing the issue, made some adjustments, and had her up and running in less than 30 minutes.  Thanks for the assist.

William "Doug" Jordan, Information Technology

Doug Jordan is always willing to help in any way he can. While preparing for several reports I had due, Doug immediately assisted me in getting the information I needed on lab usage stats and trends - even within tight deadlines. Whenever there is an issue at hand, he is ready to accommodate the needs of his campus constituents, both externally and internally, and he always ends every conversation with, "I am happy to help." He carries a quiet, humble and pleasant spirit that is to be admired and respected among the students, faculty and staff that he serves.

Alexis McCutchin, Information Technology

I just wanted to recognize one of our student staff members here at VSU. She has always gone above and beyond in terms of doing little things around the office for the IT staff. She implemented a bowl of candy and also decorated her desk in the holiday spirit which brings in a nice atmosphere when I walk in. Plus since I personally had finals this week, the bowl of candy was a nice touch during stressful times. This morning she came around and told us she brought donuts for us all to show her appreciation. She did not have to do that and it was a very nice and kind gesture. She is a prime example of what VSU truly is in spirit and I am glad we have her in our IT department!

Reynaldo Martinez, Adult and Career Education

I want to take this opportunity to commend Dr.  Rey Martinez for his exceptional support in resolving my graduation problem. He was extremely instrumental in contacting the appropriate people on my behalf. Had he not put forth the time and effort that he did, all my hard work would have been in vain. Dr. Martinez's willingness to address my concerns show that he is committed to his job and the success of VSU as a whole. His dedication speaks to the quality of service that VSU provides for its students.

Corey Nawolski, Adult and Career Education

I want to take this opportunity to extend my deepest appreciation for Mr. Nawolski's support in resolving my graduation issue. He was extremely instrumental in contacting the appropriate people on my behalf to resolve a critical problem. His willingness to address my concerns shows that he is committed to his job and the success of VSU as a whole. Mr. Nawolski's dedication speaks to the quality of service that VSU provides for its students.    My dreams are now realized in that I am setting the stage for my daughter as she continues her post-secondary education. To have worked so diligently and to have that effort recognized at the level of Magna Cum Laude is a dream come true. I am very proud to be a part of the Fall 2016 Commencement ceremony at Valdosta State University.

Jamae Flint, Budget Services

I discovered that there was an error with my 2017 benefits. I know Jamae does not work with benefits, but she has always been very helpful and quick to answer email, so I thought she could direct me to the correct person after VSU re-opened following the holidays (VSU was officially closed when I emailed). Within a few minutes, she responded to my email and gave me the info. needed so that the problem could be corrected the next morning!
