Mission Statement

The mission of the Communication Sciences and Disorders Program at Valdosta State University is to engage students in learning, research, clinical practice, and service. This mission is based on artistic, humanistic, scientific, and cultural principles related to communication disorders. Graduates are prepared to engage in a lifetime commitment to the use of evidence-based practices in their chosen profession. They are prepared in ways that will enable them to participate in vital professional roles in the region they serve and in state and national arenas.

 

Strategic Plan and Goals

The strategic plan developed by the department is based on self-study and assessment tools used to gather feedback from faculty, students, the community, and other essential constituents. The plan was created to align with the strategic initiatives of the university and the Deward College of Education and Human Services. 

Below are the strategies for the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. 

  • Increase diverse learning experiences
  • Improve program diversity and inclusion
  • Improve the visibility and communication efforts of the program and clinic
  • Increase student learning outcomes across the academic and clinical curricula
