Exemptions for the GACE Program Admissions Assessment

 Note: If you do not qualify for an exemption, you must pass the GACE Program Admissions Assessment (PAA) for admission to the program. Information on how to access and complete the exam can be found at the Program Admission Assessment page. Applicants must submit a copy of the score report received when they complete the exam.

  Methods of exemption from the GACE PAA: 

  • Pass the GACE Basic Skills Test.  Please send a copy of the score report you received to gradschool@valdosta.edu.
  • Hold a professional teaching certificate in Georgia.  Please include your certificate ID on your application or send a copy of your certificate to gradschool@valdosta.edu.
  • Hold a professional teaching certificate in another state.  Please email a copy of your certificate to gradschool@valdosta.edu.
  • GRE:
    • Tested before August 2011 – minimum exempting score is 1030 or higher (Verbal + Quantitative).  You or your prior graduate school can send a copy of an official score report to gradschool@valdosta.edu or provide documentation of the scores on a school transcript. Most schools do not automatically print scores on transcripts, so you may need to make a special request to have them included.
    • Tested in August 2011 or later - minimum exempting score is 297 or higher (Verbal + Quantitative).  If you tested over five years ago, you or your prior graduate school can send a copy of an official score report to gradschool@valdosta.edu or provide documentation of the scores on a school transcript. Most schools do not automatically print scores on transcripts, so you may need to make a special request to have them included. If you tested in the last five years, please order an official score report from ETS (Visit the GRE Test website for more information.)
    • ACT: minimum exempting score is 43 (English + Math). You can submit documentation of the scores via a high school transcript, a college transcript, or an official score report from the ACT. Visit the ACT website for more information. Most colleges/universities do not automatically print scores on transcripts so you may need to make a special request to have them included.
    • SAT: minimum exempting scores are listed below.  You can submit documentation of the scores via a high school transcript, including the scores on your college transcript, or an official score report from the CollegeBoard. Most colleges/universities do not automatically print scores on transcripts, so you may need to make a special request to have them included.
      • SAT score report dated prior to July 1, 2019
        • 1000 (Verbal/Critical Reading + Math).  Note that this is the previous SAT title used prior to March 2016.  OR
        • 1000 (Evidence based Reading/Writing + Math). Note that this is current SAT title as of March 2016.

  • SAT Score Report dated on or after July 1, 2019
    • 1080 on Evidence based Reading/Writing + Math
    • Tests from two SAT administrations can be combined to meet the exemption requirement, but if one of the score reports is dated on or after July 1, 2019, the scores must meet the requirement of 1080.
    • Passing scores on other state basic skills assessments.* See https://www.gapsc.com/EducatorPreparation/Assessment/BasicSkillsInfo.aspx for a complete list of available exemptions. *The GaPSC reserves the right not to accept scores from other states. You can submit documentation of the scores via a high school transcript, a college transcript, or an official score report. Upon receipt of these documents, we will consult with the GaPSC to ensure it meets their requirements.
