Life as a CSET student

Learning happens when you make things.

Courses give you the foundations. Projects, faculty interaction, and experiences beyond the classroom help you put them to work.

At Valdosta State University's Department of Computer Science and Engineering Technology (CSET), students can explore practical learning in computing and engineering technology. Opportunities may involve programming, research, internships, technical projects, and academic advising; availability and eligibility depend on the activity.

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

Learn by doing, asking, and building.

Hands-on computing

Use department computing labs for coursework and projects. We have open, classroom, and research lab spaces in Nevins Hall.

SHOW WHAT YOU KNOW

Build a portfolio, not just a transcript.

As you progress, look for chances to demonstrate what you know through code, reports, presentations, research, and project work. In Computer Science and Information Systems, this might mean documenting software or data projects. In Engineering Technology, it might mean explaining a technical design, measurement, process, or capstone project. These are examples of possible portfolio materials, not guarantees of specific assignments.

Ask faculty about opportunities suited to your interests and preparation.
