During the summer of 2015, I was accepted to the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at Columbia University in New York City. I worked with the astrophysics group XENON to clean contaminated gaseous xenon through cryogenic pumping, as shown in the picture. I entered the program with absolutely no coding or research experience. Through the 10-week program, I learned Python, ROOT, and how to keep a lab manual. The REU strengthened my love for physics and research, and I highly recommend applying for these opportunities!
