VALDOSTA, Ga. – Public history students at Valdosta State University (VSU) take their learning outside the classroom in places like museums, historic structures, monuments, archives, and even podcasts and video game documentaries. The latest project from students in the Principles of Public History class is now on display in Odum Library.
“Women’s History at VSU and Beyond” is now open to the VSU community and the public in the Odum Library First Floor Atrium. It is hosted by the Department of History and Interdisciplinary Studies and VSU’s Archives and Special Collections.
Dr. Sarah FitzGerald is an associate professor of history at VSU, and she teaches the Principles of Public History class as part of the Public History Graduate Certificate. Every fall semester, she develops an exhibit with her students that provides experience handling artifacts.
“We are really grateful partners with VSU Archives and Special Collections,” said FitzGerald. “Our students get hands-on experience work with primary sources and primary artifacts.”
The “Women’s History at VSU and Beyond” exhibit is open until Nov. 2027.
