Career Opportunities Hosts Career Boot Camp Dec. 5

VALDOSTA – The Office of Career Opportunities at Valdosta State University will host a Career Boot Camp from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, in the University Center Magnolia Room.

Fall 2015 graduates and alumni are encouraged to bring a copy of their resume, cover letter, and a description of the job they are interested in applying for.

Participants considering enrollment in graduate or professional programs are encouraged to bring a description of the program and admission requirements.

“The purpose of the Career Boot Camp is to offer a one-day prep session for fall 2015 graduates and other alumni who may need career assistance and tools in navigating their post-graduate career journey,” said Ieshia Walker, alumni and events coordinator for VSU’s Alumni Career Engagement Center in the Office of Career Opportunities. “…it is a condensed version of career development tips and services that students and alumni should be utilizing throughout their career process.”

Participants will have the opportunity to speak with employees from the Office of Career Opportunities, VSU alumni, employer partners, and career strategists in a series of short sessions. Each discussion will focus on resume competitiveness, interview tips, job searching, and professional and social media branding.

“We are focusing on getting fall 2015 graduates and alumni the career information they need so they are empowered to enhance/transform their present career strategy,” said Walker.

VSU’s Office of Career Opportunities strives to provide career development and awareness, experiential learning and/or cooperative education, and professional employment opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students and alumni. Its staff collaborates with VSU faculty, as well as the university’s employer and community partners to develop the employment potential of students and graduates and to utilize their innovative, intellectual talents.
