Trombone Alumni Return to VSU for April 19 Performance

VALDOSTA — The Department of Music at Valdosta State University will present a trombone reunion concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, in Whitehead Auditorium. Admission is free of charge and open to the public.

Performers include 35 trombonists who studied with Dr. Doug G. Farwell, professor of trombone and head of the Department of Music, during the past two-plus decades.

The reunion concert will feature trombone ensemble music, including the world premiere of a composition by VSU alumnus Brian Dodd for four trombones and the Faculty Jazz Combo titled “One Must Imagine Sissyphus Happy,” as well as a double choir transcription by Hans Leo Hassler. The current VSU Trombone Ensemble will perform, and five of the newest incoming freshman from around the state will join in the final two compositions, with all groups performing together.

Dr. Doug G. Farwell may be contacted at (229) 333-5804 or dfarwell@valdosta.edu for more information.
