Department of Music

The Valdosta State University Department of Music is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music, with a faculty of 30 artist teachers and over 160 music majors. The Department of Music presents over 200 musical performances for the public each year. In addition, several of the major performing ensembles of the department travel throughout Georgia, the Southeast, and abroad; performing for schools, civic groups, and as part of community concert series.

The faculty of the Department of Music are active performers, scholars, conductors, clinicians, and adjudicators throughout the region. The department offers a full range of instrumental and vocal performing ensembles, including the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra. Membership in ensembles is open to all VSU students.

South GA String Project

The SGSP final concert will be on Monday, May 5th, at 6 PM in Whitehead Auditorium. It will feature the talents of a multitude of students ranging from young children to adults. In addition to the Youth Orchestra, several smaller ensembles, i.e. viola pods and cello pods, will be performing, as well. The Youth Orchestra will play highlights from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and the fourth movements of Dvorak's famous Ninth Symphony with Mr. Mainella at the podium. The SGSP concert provides an evening of fun and musical inspiration for all members of the audience.
