BS Applied Mathematics
Our Bachelors of Science (BS) in Applied Mathematics can prepare you for a BIG career (Business, Industry, Government, and related areas)! Consider adding a Basic Certificate in Data Science to your major as well to become highly marketable in the fast paced world of big data and data analytics.
This degree provides students with a sound curriculum designed to be consistent with expanding uses of mathematics in business and industry. It is intended to be preparation for industrial or governmental employment or for the study of applied mathematics at the graduate level. It is our most popular mathematics program.

BA Mathematics
This program provides students with a major in mathematics within the framework of a broad-based general education. The "traditional" mathematics degree, it is intended primarily as preparation for the study of mathematics at the graduate level.

BA Mathematics - Secondary Education Track
Valdosta State Mathematics boasts one of very few Mathematics degree programs that also leads to secondary education certification! The BA in Mathematics with Sec. Ed. Certification is a complete mathematics degree with additional course work and student teaching opportunities to help you earn your certification. With this program, you can earn your degree and at the same time, become eligible to teach high school mathematics directly upon graduation! Also, if you decide that teaching is not for you, your coursework has not gone to waste – after all, you will have earned a Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics!
This program provides students with a major in mathematics within the framework of a broad-based general education as well as prepares students for certification in secondary mathematics. Students must be admitted to the Teacher Education Program in the College of Education and Human Services prior to enrolling in the professional education courses. Students must also meet the Student Teaching requirements of the College of Education and Human Services.

Minor in Mathematics
The Mathematics Department offers a minor in Mathematics requiring 16-17 hours of course work:
Required: Math 2262 & 3040 and three of the following courses: Math 2263, 3340, 3600, 4150, 4081, 4082, 4260, 4300, 4621, 4622, 4651, 4652, 4901, 4902, 4910.
A Computer Science major can obtain a Minor in Mathematics with the addition of just two courses: 3040 and one of these courses: Math 2263, 4150, 4081, 4260, 4901 (if not taken for CS), 4902, 4651 (if not taken for CS), 4652. The other requirements are met through the fulfillment of the CS degree requirements.

BS in Astronomy
Graduates of the astronomy program at Valdosta State University have gone on to pursue graduate degrees in astronomy, physics, and atmospheric physics. Others have embarked on rewarding careers in aerospace and related industry or have become planetarium directors or research assistants at national observatories. Others have specialized in science teaching for high school and middle school. stronomy students at Valdosta State take courses in physics and mathematics, along with classes in general astronomy and astrophysics, the solar system and observational techniques. Students gain practical teaching experience as laboratory assistants and tutors and are able to participate in research experiments with faculty members. Many astronomy majors choose to double major in physics. Students in the program are prepared for graduate studies and to enter the workforce in areas such as aerospace and related industries.

BS in Physics
The physics program at Valdosta State provides students with knowledge in the fundamental branches of physics, including mechanics, electromagnetism and quantum mechanics, along with other areas in the discipline such as thermodynamics,electronics, optics and computational physics. Students learn to apply mathematical techniques to physical problems and become proficient in the use of computers and calculators for scientific calculation and programming. The physics curriculum prepares students for careers in research, government, industry or education or to enter graduate programs in physics or astronomy.
