Double Reed Day

Double Reed activities at Valdosta State University have expanded greatly in recent years and become an integral part of the Department of Music. Headed by Dr. Susan Eischeid, oboe; and Dr. Nina Scheibe, bassoon; the Double Reed Program has hosted Double Reed Days, an annual Double Reed Studio Recital, performances by double reed chamber ensembles on Departmental recitals, a double reed Facebook page, and double reed faculty recitals. Oboe and bassoon students are afforded the opportunity to perform on english horn, oboe d'amore and contra-bassoon and have weekly studio classes in reed-making, orchestral excerpts, instrument maintenance and repair, ornamentation, how to handle nerves and performance anxiety, mock orchestral auditions, and performance and educational activities post-graduation.

All woodwind students are encouraged to audition for the professional Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and varied chamber music groups.
