Why Earn a Chemistry Minor?

A Chemistry minor is an excellent way to strengthen your degree and expand your career options. Chemistry provides a deeper understanding of the molecular basis of biology, medicine, the environment, and many other areas of science. The additional coursework can help prepare you for careers in healthcare, biotechnology, environmental science, forensic science, pharmaceuticals, and other STEM fields, as well as graduate or professional school.

For Biology majors, earning a Chemistry minor requires only a few courses beyond those already required for their major. A chemistry minor also demonstrates to employers and graduate programs that you have developed strong laboratory, quantitative, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

A Chemistry minor requires Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 (CHEM 3401 and 3402) and at least 7 credits from Quantitative Analysis (CHEM 2310) or upper-level courses (course numbers 3000 and above).
