In the last decade, Palacky University in Olomouc has developed a wide range of international contacts with partner universities and institutions worldwide. It is involved in European Union projects, in regional programs, and programs of the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Physical Education.

Palacký University, Olomouc was re-established by the Act of the Interim National Assembly, passed on February 21, 1946. The old Olomouc university was established in 1573 and closed in 1860. Therefore the Olomouc University can justly be considered the second oldest university in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia.

Location

Located in the center of Moravia (the eastern half of the Chech Republic), Olomouc is a city of 110,000 inhabitants. Recently voted the most livable city in the Czech Republic by the Czech magazine Reflex, it is one of the most important historical and cultural centers and has the second largest historical district (after Prague) in the Czech Republic. First a fortress, and later a military and church center, it has been a university city since the 16th century. Olomouc is host to a thousand years of architecture, beautiful parks, concerts, art exhibits, theaters, libraries, professional soccer, and Palacky University.

Room and Board

University students and foreign students can stay in one of the 7 Halls of Residence. No university housing is available for students with families. Although Residence Halls vary in size, all rooms are equipped at least with a desk, a bed and closet space for each student. Each suite is equipped with a refrigerator and an internal telephone connection; to make external calls, you need to use public telephones, located in the reception area. All resident buildings contain recreation areas, TV and study rooms and cooking facilities (no cooking utensils and dishes, though).
