USG Requirement

Effective July 15, 2020, University System of Georgia (USG) institutions will require all faculty, staff, students, and visitors to wear an appropriate face covering while inside campus facilities/buildings where six feet social distancing may not always be possible. Face covering use will be in addition to and is not a substitute for social distancing.
Face coverings are not required in one’s own dorm room or suite, when alone in an enclosed office or study room, or in campus outdoor settings where social distancing requirements are met.
Anyone not using a face covering when required will be asked to wear one or must leave the area. Repeated refusal to comply with the requirement may result in discipline through the applicable conduct code for faculty, staff or students.
Reasonable accommodations may be made for those who are unable to wear a face covering for documented health reasons.  https://www.usg.edu/coronavirus/

VSU Process for Classroom/Office Situations in Academic Affairs

If a student is not wearing a face covering in a classroom or office, faculty or staff will politely ask the student to put on a face covering that covers the nose and mouth. If the student refuses to put on a face covering, the student will be asked to leave the classroom or office. If the student complies, class/activities may continue. If the student refuses to put on a face covering and refuses to leave the classroom, faculty will dismiss the class and report the student to Student Affairs at: https://cm.maxient.com/reportingform.php?ValdostaStateUniv&layout_id=10 and to their department head. Faculty or staff are asked to not call UPD for mask or social distancing enforcement unless the student engages in disruptive behavior (e.g. threatening behavior, refuses to leave for non-compliance etc.). Faculty and staff should follow the same protocol for dealing with students who are not social distancing.

Faculty and staff should report each incident at https://cm.maxient.com/reportingform.php?ValdostaStateUniv&layout_id=10. For a second offense, Student Affairs will have a personal conversation with the student about the importance of compliance with this policy. Upon a 3rd offense, the student will also be required to watch a COVID-19 public health video. Upon a 4th offense, the student will be referred to the BIT Team and will face disciplinary action by Student Conduct. Students who repeatedly refuse to wear a face covering or maintain social distancing can be required to attend class remotely.
