VALDOSTA, Ga. – More than 10 years after launching, Valdosta State University’s (VSU) Bachelor of Arts in Spanish online degree continues to be recognized.

“This is a wonderful honor, and it reflects the quality of our program,” said Dr. Ofelia Nikolova, department head of VSU’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages. “We prepare our students for careers in education, linguistics, service, and business, and we know that learning a foreign language and new culture will boost their success.”

VSU’s online Spanish degree has been listed among the most affordable programs in years prior.

To make the list, a school needs to be accredited, offer an online Spanish degree, and meet a threshold for verified student and alumni reviews with a strong average rating. In its 2026 rankings, OnlineU lists the following as what sets VSU’s program apart:

• Department-supported study abroad opportunities in Spain, Costa Rica, and Cuba give students multiple options for immersive language and cultural study. VSU encourages students to begin planning for study abroad by the end of their second year.
• This Spanish degree is designed for double majors, postbaccalaureate students, nontraditional learners, and students interested in studying multiple languages.

The online Bachelor of Arts in Spanish degree at VSU started in 2015. Today, it is still growing as department leaders continue to innovate its pedagogy and curriculum. It is also is a feeder into the Master of Arts in Teaching in World Language (Spanish) which graduates public school teachers with initial P-12 certification.

VSU’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages also offers a minor in Spanish and the Spanish for Professionals Certificate. Both give VSU graduates of any discipline a competitive edge in the job market.
