VSU Leaders Selected for Moody AFB Honorary Commander Program
|
VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University leaders Joseph A. Brownlee and A. Blake Pearce have been selected to serve as honorary deputy commanders through Moody Air Force Base’s 23d Wing Honorary Commander Program, strengthening the partnership between the university and the local military community.
Through the program, community leaders are paired with units across the base to build relationships and gain a deeper understanding of Air Force operations. Brownlee and Pearce will serve as ambassadors between Moody Air Force Base and the surrounding community while engaging directly with base leadership and personnel.
Brownlee, president of the VSU Foundation Board of Trustees and southwest regional director for Georgia Power, is assigned to the 23d Mission Support Group. The group provides essential services that enable base operations, including logistics, infrastructure, and personnel support.
“As chair of the Valdosta State University Foundation Board of Trustees, I see a strong connection between these two institutions,” Brownlee said. “When Moody is strong and when Valdosta State University is strong, South Georgia is strong. I’m proud to support both in ways that build resilience and opportunity for our region.”
Pearce, chief development officer for University Advancement, is assigned to the 336th Recruiting Squadron, which is responsible for recruiting and inspiring the next generation of airmen to serve in the United States Air Force.
“It is an honor to serve in this role as we work alongside leadership at Moody Air Force Base to strengthen community relationships and increase awareness of Air Force operations,” Pearce said.
“I’m excited to share more about Valdosta State University and our community while gaining a deeper understanding of the work at Moody. I look forward to building connections and the impact we can make together, and I hope those we engage with come to see Valdosta and Lowndes County as a place they can always call home.”
The Honorary Commander Program includes 18 community leaders paired with units and senior leaders across Moody Air Force Base. Appointments are for one year and may be extended up to three years.
