VALDOSTA — Madison MacGregor Mascheri of Lake Mary, Florida, is the recipient of the 2021 Outstanding Student in Nursing and Health Sciences Award at Valdosta State University.

“Winning this award is an amazing honor,” she said. “VSU and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences has provided me with everything and more to help me achieve my goals. The support I have received from the faculty has been incredible. I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of such an outstanding program. This award is meaningful to me because I am proud to be a VSU graduate.”

The Outstanding Student in Nursing and Health Sciences Award is presented to a College of Nursing and Health Sciences student with a record of academic excellence and distinguished service inside and outside the classroom.

Mascheri will graduate magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Health Science during VSU’s 231st Commencement at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium. A week later she will continue her education at the University of Central Florida and begin pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy.

“I am excited for this next chapter of my life and can’t wait to begin accomplishing my dream of becoming a physical therapist,” she said.

As a student at VSU, Mascheri enjoyed playing intramural soccer and devoting time to improving her physical health. She earned a Lifeguard Certificate and a First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate, which she put to good use as a facility supervisor and lifeguard with Campus Recreation. She volunteered with Second Harvest, the leading hunger-relief organization in the region, and with Clean the World, a global health organization committed to improving the quality of life for vulnerable communities. She earned repeated Dean’s List honors and was named an Employee of Distinction by Campus Recreation.

Mascheri said she is grateful for the support she has received from her family, including mom Lyn Mascheri and grandparents Jean and Frank Falconetti.
