VALDOSTA — Thomas Lyrskov Jespersen of Herning, Denmark, is the recipient of the Spring 2020 President’s Award for Academic Excellence for the Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration at Valdosta State University.

The President’s Award for Academic Excellence is presented to the graduating student with the highest grade point average in each of VSU’s six colleges — Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, College of the Arts, James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education and Human Services, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and College of Science and Mathematics.

Jespersen will be recognized during VSU’s virtual 229th Commencement at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, at valdosta.edu/commencement. He will graduate summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business, a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management, and a Minor in Entrepreneurship.

“I am truly honored to receive this award and to represent the Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration,” he said. “My time at VSU has taught me that hard work and a stimulating environment are important for success, so I would like to thank my teammates, classmates, and professors.”

As a student-athlete at VSU, Jespersen was a member of the Men’s Golf Team, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Business Student Advisory Council, the Society for International Students, and Beta Gamma Sigma: The International Business Honor Society.

Jespersen’s commitment to academic and athletic excellence resulted in him earning repeated spots on the Dean’s List, the 2019 Outstanding Senior Management Award, the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 Student-Athlete Academic Award, the Steele Scholarship, and the Belk Hudson Management Scholarship.

“Right after graduation I want to expand my knowledge of international cultures and gain more work experience,” he said. Jespersen eventually plans to continue his education and pursue a Master of Business Administration. He aspires to be a leader in an international corporation. He is the son of Lone Lyrskov Jespersen and Michael Jespersen.
