VSU Presents Opera After Dark in Downtown Valdosta April 20

VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University Opera will present Opera After Dark: Wine, Women, and Song at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, at The Patterson in Downtown Valdosta.

VSU Opera students will perform excerpts from some of their favorite productions, including Gaetano Donizetti’s “The Elixer of Love,” Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera,” Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Don Giovanni,” David Conte’s “The Dreamers,” “Douglas Moore’s “Gallantry,” and more, while guests enjoy a delicious, hot meal prepared by Covington’s Dining and Catering.

The VSU Department of Music’s Dr. Tamara Hardesty, VSU Opera director, will serve as music and stage director. Sue Ellen Rumstay will serve as accompanist.

Opera After Dark: Wine, Women, and Song benefits VSU Opera’s production of Aaron Copland’s “The Tender Land,” which will make its way to the Whitehead Auditorium stage in January 2018. Set in the American heartland during the Great Depression, this opera tells the story of a teenage girl graduating from high school, questioning her place in the world, and dreaming of a life beyond her family farm.
