VSU Hosts Alcohol Awareness Information Fair Oct. 27

VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University’s Office of Alcohol and Other Drug Education will host the Alcohol Awareness Information Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, on the third floor of the Student Union. All faculty, staff, students, and retirees are welcome to attend.

“The purpose of the event is to provide an opportunity to have alcohol-related questions answered that might otherwise go unaddressed,” explained Mark Williams, program coordinator. “The Office of Alcohol and Other Drug Education believes an informed decision is a better decision. In addition, the Alcohol Awareness Fair provides an opportunity for students to learn there is a resource available on campus to conduct substance abuse assessments, one-on-one counseling, group education, and referrals. All services are offered free of charge.”

Representatives from the Office of Alcohol and Other Drug Education will provide attendees with valuable information regarding the potential dangers associated with the abuse of alcohol. Participants can take part in an interactive display and drive a remote control car, trying to negotiate around obstacles while wearing “beer goggles,” glasses that simulate the effects of alcohol intoxication. Visitors can also enjoy free hot dogs.

The mission of the Office of Alcohol and Other Drug Education is to address the issue of substance abuse among the VSU community and its potential impact on academic, professional, and social development.
