VSU Hosts the Vagina Monologues April 3-5, 2014
VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University’s performance of “The Vagina Monologues” is back by popular demand to raise awareness for Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The show will be held at 7 p.m., April 3-5 in Bailey Science Center Room 1011.
“The Vagina Monologues” features an entirely female cast from the VSU campus that spans across majors, ages, academic class distinctions, and theatre experience. Both humorous and serious, “The Vagina Monologues” celebrates female individuality through the different voices of real women.
“It’s all about how women come to find their sexuality through humor and grace,” said Kaylan Hand, V-Day director. “We encourage everyone to come out and see an amazing and hysterical show that helps end violence against women and girls.”
Tickets can be purchased at the Carswell House, the Women and Gender Studies (WGST) building, located on Oak Street. Student ticket price is $5 and general admission is $10. Tickets will also be sold at the door. Cash and checks are accepted.
All ticket proceeds are donated to the VSU WGST’s sexual assault program, the V-Day movement and The Haven, the local battered women’s shelter.
Written by activist and playwright, Eve Ensler, “The Vagina Monologues” serves to raise awareness about the violence and injustice toward women and girls. As a result of the positive impact and success of the play, Ensler created the global V-Day movement to end violence toward women and girls.
“A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer,” also written by Ensler, was performed earlier in March for the first time on VSU campus.
