VSU Hosts Read Fest on Front Lawn

VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University’s Odum Library and Student Council of the International Reading Association will host Read Fest 2013 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, April 19, on the West Hall front lawn.

Michael Holt, reference librarian and an assistant professor in the Master of Library and Information Science Program, said that 255 students from area prekindergarten schools are scheduled to attend the seventh annual event. The children will spend the morning participating in a variety of activities, including puppet shows, games, crafts, read-along stories, coloring, and music.

“The purpose of the event is to promote literacy in our community through getting children excited about reading at an early age,” Holt said.

VSU has hosted Read Fest since 2006. The event is part of the campus’ celebration of National Library Week, April 14-20.
