“Lake Georgia” Wins Regional and National Award From Housing Organization

VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University’s Georgia Hall resident assistants and resident assistant candidates, also known as the "Lake Georgia" Crew, were awarded both an Of the Month (OTM) regional award from the South Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (SAACURH) and a national award from the National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH) for the Residential Community Of the Month category for February 2013.

There are 15 different categories of OTMs. In order to win, the Lake Georgia nomination was considered against 10 other nominations from the region and seven other nominations from the national level.

The OTM awards are given monthly to residents and staff members. OTM’s are written about people, organizations or programs that have made a positive impact on the housing community during a given month.

This is only the fourth national OTM that VSU has received in its history of OTM submissions,” said Bonnie Brackett, complex director for Converse, Georgia, Langdale and Reade Halls. “We have also received 21 regional OTMs since late 2003.”

Opened in 1969, Georgia Hall was named for the state of Georgia and for the avenue on which the building is located. It is a 489 bed suite-style hall and replaces the former Georgia Hall, which housed 200 students in a traditional, double-loaded corridor facility
