Two-Day Workshop to Help Parents, Professionals Learn More About Autism

VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University Continuing Education will host a workshop on autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, and on Saturday, Nov. 3. Registration for the two-day event is $189 per person and includes lunch each day. Discounts are available.

Dr. Lynn Adams, a national certified speech-language pathologist with more than 25 years of experience working with children with autism, will help attendees explore the impact of autism spectrum disorders in children of all ages and learn the various characteristics of ASDs, how they manifest in the home and school, behavior and academic challenges, and meaningful treatment planning.

“The two-day workshop is geared towards professionals and parents,” said the VSU Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders associate professor who has published three books on autism and contributed to The Autism Encyclopedia, “with an emphasis on early intervention and school-based services. My goals are to share information regarding the nature of autism and its impact on families, the community, and professionals. Also, I want to share tried and true treatment strategies for toddlers through high school.”

The workshop will meet in the Regional Center for Continuing Education, located at 903 N. Patterson St.
