Media Advisory: Commissioned Sculpture To Be Installed At JennettLecture Hall

VALDOSTA -- Dr. Ronald M. Zaccari, a multi-media artist known primarily for his three-dimensional steel images, was recently asked to create an original piece of artwork for Valdosta State University’s Jerry and Kay Jennett Lecture Hall.

At 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 16, Zaccari will begin the process of installing the 13-foot by 8-foot stainless steel and aluminum sculpture, which was commissioned by the Jennetts, long-time friends and supporters of the university. He said the process will continue for several hours and is scheduled for completion Tuesday morning.

This will be Zaccari’s second sculpture to be installed at the university. The first is part of a growing outdoor art exhibit. Titled “Black Bird,” it is located between the Student Union and Odum Library.

Zaccari served as the university’s seventh president, from 2002 to 2008. He said this sculpture is the largest undertaking of his career and weighs roughly one-half ton.

The Jerry and Kay Jennett Lecture Hall is located on the corner of Baytree Road and Oak Street.

Members of area media organizations interested in covering the installation process should contact Jessica R. Pope, communications specialist, at (229) 333-2163 or at jrpope@valdosta.edu.
