VSU Relay for Life Raises Over $48,000 to Support Cancer Research

 

VALDOSTA -- Valdosta State University held its 5th annual Relay for Life at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 13, on the front lawn of the VSU campus. A total of $48,562 was raised to support cancer research. Fifty-eight teams participated in this year’s event, and 55 of those teams were VSU student organizations.

The top raising team consisted of Chi Omega, Delta Chi and Sigma Chi who raised $8,169. The top raising individual was Becky Murphy who raised $2,176.

“The Relay for Life student committee did all of the work,” said John Wright, associate director of Student Life. “I want to make sure they get credit because they did a wonderful job.”

Also, the College Panhellenic Council sororities held their annual Step Show on Thursday, April 12, and raised a total of $6,200 for the local “Partnership Cancer Fund.”
