Peach State Summer Theater Offers Pay-What-You-Can Performances

VALDOSTA -- Peach State Summer Theater will offer three pay-what-you-can performances -- one for each show -- during its rotating repertoire of "Carousel," "Hairspray," and "The Jungle Book," June 4 to July 18, in Sawyer Theatre, located on the corner of Oak Street and Brookwood Drive.

Patrons are invited to make a donation to see “Carousel” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 26. The timeless musical portrays the tragic, yet ultimately hopeful love story of carnival barker Billy Bigelow and Julie Jordan, featuring popular songs, ”If I Loved You,” “June is Bustin’ Out All Over,” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

Curtains will open for the pay-what-you-can performance of "The Jungle Book" at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 25. A musical for all ages, the story follows beloved storybook characters Mowgli, Baloo, and King Louie as they swing their way through madcap adventures and thwart ferocious tiger, Shere Khan. This musical includes favorite Disney tunes "The Bare Necessities" and "I Wan'na Be Like You."

Make a contribution to enjoy “Hairspray" at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 25. The popular musical introduces audiences to loveable plus-size heroine, Tracy Turnblad, whose passion for dancing wins her a spot on local television dance program, "The Corny Collins Show." The overnight sensation searches for love and acceptance in this show, based on the cult-classic film of the same name, which features songs “Good Morning Baltimore,” “I Know Where I’ve Been,” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat.”

People interested in taking advantage of this opportunity may make a contribution to pick up tickets in advance at the Theatre Box Office, located on the first floor of the VSU Fine Arts Building, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday - Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. No phone reservations will be accepted for these special performances, and a maximum of four tickets may be purchased per person.

Peach State will accept cash or check contributions only, no credit card payments for the designated performances. Patrons may arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of the show to get tickets, but seating is limited. No refunds, exchanges or rain checks will be granted with this offer.
