Blazer Pantry Continues to Grow

VALDOSTA -- Use of Valdosta State University’s Blazer Pantry continues to increase as more students learn about its services.

Blazer Pantry Co-Coordinator Monique Byrd said that more than 60 students have used the pantry since its opening in late October 2010, with several students returning bi-weekly. The pantry provides food to VSU students who are in need of support.

Some of the students have expressed a need for can openers for the canned goods they receive from the pantry. Otherwise they are very appreciative, Byrd said.

“The goals and objectives of the pantry are to provide minimal foods for students in need and to advocate on behalf of those in need,” said Byrd. “The pantry is here to provide information for other resources that address food concerns for students in need.”

The pantry is located in the Division of Student Affairs offices on the third floor of the Student Union. Hours of operation are Tuesday and Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. The pantry is closed on all VSU calendar holidays and student breaks.
