Governor Appoints Anita Hufft to the Georgia Board of Nursing

VALDOSTA -- Governor Sonny Perdue announced the appointment of Dr. Anita Hufft, R.N, dean of the Valdosta State University College of Nursing, to the Georgia Board of Nursing.

The Georgia Board of Nursing consists of eight members appointed by the Governor and is responsible for the regulation of registered professional nurses and advanced practice registered nurses. Board members develop rules and regulations that set the standards for nursing practice and education, provide the minimum qualifications for licensure, and ensure that disciplinary process is implemented in a fashion that guarantees due process and public protection.

Hufft, who joined VSU in 2004, said that recent reports from the Institute of Medicine and the Carnegie Study highlight the importance of transforming nursing education and nursing practice to face the challenges of the current health care delivery system.

“This is an exciting and potentially rewarding time to be in a position to significantly impact the profession and the health and welfare of the citizens of Georgia,” Hufft said. “I’ll be counting on the wisdom and ideas of my colleagues to do the job that needs to be done. I see this as an opportunity to give back to Georgia -- a great place to be a nurse.”
