VSU Opens New Student Union

VALDOSTA -- Valdosta State University officially opened the doors of its new Student Union, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held at 10 a.m. today. After nearly three years of design planning and construction, the new $43 million Student Union is officially opened.

The 113,000 square-foot Student Union represents the gateway to the campus and stands as a focal point as it welcomes students, parents, alumni and friends to the campus. Throughout the three-story building there is an abundance of public areas where students can relax, study, check their email at a computer kiosk, or just sit and enjoy a snack between classes.

Inside the Student Union, a variety of food options are available including The Loop Pizza Grill, Starbucks Coffee and Nathan’s Famous Hotdogs. The VSU Bookstore occupies 20,000 square-feet of space and features an expanded technology shop and separate textbook and retail areas, as well as a convenience store located near the theater.

The Student Union also host a 300-seat movie theater; game room, meeting rooms, a multi-purpose room that accommodates 500 people for banquets, offices for student organizations, and administrative offices for Student Life and Dean of Students.

The office of Student Life is hosting a variety of events to kick-off the new Student Union:
• Jan. 19: CAB Chaos, 6-10p.m., Union Ballroom
• Jan. 20: Where’s Blaze Fun Run, 5-10 p.m., Student Union Lobby
• Jan. 21: Free Game Room Day, 10 a.m. to 12 a.m., Union Game Room
• Jan. 22: Ocean Street Concert, 7 p.m., Union Ballroom
• Jan. 23: Moonlight Madness, 10 p.m. to 12 a.m., VSU Bookstore
• Jan. 24: Sunday Cinema Free Movie, 11 p.m., Union Theatre
