VSU News Site Online Now

VALDOSTA - Valdosta State University launched a brand new site, www.valdosta.edu/news , that focuses on campus news and events.

The former news site was transformed into an interactive information portal, which provides visitors university news in a simple format with a multitude of options for providing feedback and submitting events, news items and achievements, through online forms. Addressing both internal and external communication needs, VSU News will be an essential tool for networking with all university constituencies. A new section, “Visionary,” will profile VSU students, faculty and staff that boast vision and success, and the new format will increase opportunities for human interest features as well as breaking news and updates.

Jennifer Tanner, communication specialist within the Office of the President, is the content manager and Bobby Lacey, Web designer in Publication and Design Services, created and will maintain the site. Contact Tanner at (229) 333-2163 or e-mail news@valdosta.edu for more information.

The following descriptions of VSU News site items can also be found online in the VSU News Web Site Policy, available online at www.valdosta.edu/news/about . Please use these descriptions for guidance when determining potential content, ideas and feedback.

What it offers:

“Visionary”
This section will feature a photo and feature about exceptional students, faculty, staff, alumni and supporters. Visionaries will be people that show vision for improving themselves and the university.

News
The news release section will hold the most recent or important news releases; yet link to the archive of press releases. Topics considered for news releases should be unique, timely and of university-wide importance.

Campus Notices
The section for campus notices will include any internal message that affects internal audiences, yet is not important enough to merit a news release. Potential items may include departmental name changes, office relocations, new faculty additions, new or updated policies, information about paperwork or submission deadlines, construction updates and more.

Achievement Notes
The Achievement Notes section will display briefs about faculty and staff accomplishments that do not merit a news release. These may include grant awards, best paper awards, minor accomplishments and more.

Event Calendar
The event calendar will display a list of events from which a number of people in the VSU and local communities may benefit. The list may include important holidays and dates on the academic calendar, lectures and or events that are open to the public and other important university dates.
