Social Work Career Day Feb. 8

VALDOSTA - More than 20 social service agencies in South Georgia will participate in the Division of Social Work’s Career Day and Information Fair Friday, Feb. 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the University Center.

The Division of Social Work sponsors the event, which enables current and prospective Master of Social Work students to learn more about the diverse field and to meet faculty, students and practitioners.

Faculty will meet with prospective students from 9 a.m. to noon in the UC Theater, to talk one-on-one with them about the educational preparation required for the vocation. Those interested in talking with professors during the career session should call the Division of Social Work at (229) 219-1392 to schedule a time.

The fair will break for lunch at noon. People interested in dining at the event-sponsored lunch in the UC Cypress Room should call the division to make a $10 lunch reservation.

The informational fair will continue at 1 p.m. in the UC Magnolia Room. Social service agencies, including the Hospice, Division of Family and Children Services and the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, will host information booths. Anyone interested in the vocation of social work may talk with agency representatives about the profession.

“Social Work has also been recently named a top career for job satisfaction and autonomy by the Wall Street Journal,” said Felicia Hilson, the division’s Director of Admissions and Recruiting. “One of the most distinctive elements of the Master of Social Work program is that it allows students a wide variety of experiences and prepares them for working in multiple, diverse settings.”

For more information about the fair, call Hilson at 219-1392 or e-mail her at socialwork@valdosta.edu. Learn more about VSU’s social work course and degree offerings online at www.valdosta.edu/sowk .
