Student volunteers hold festival for S.L. Mason

VALDOSTA - Students from Valdosta State University and the City of Valdosta’s S.L. Mason Elementary School will join together for an exciting event as the VSU Student Action Council (SAC) hosts the first ever Fun in the Sun Festival from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, April 21 on the university’s front lawn.

More than 600 elementary school students have been invited to attend the festival that will offer field day style games, free food, live music, a bounce house and much more. VSU volunteers from more than 20 campus organizations will facilitate the day’s events.

The idea originated as part of SAC’s effort to initiate collaboration between the many campus groups, while providing local elementary school children and parents a special day of fun and festivities. Fun in the Sun provides an outlet for community involvement for student groups of all sizes that are interested in interacting with the community.

SAC president, Kerry Laster, hopes the festival will not only build communication and support between organizations, but also strengthen the VSU student bond with the local community.
