Valdosta State University shares the joy of the season

Valdosta State University's Office of Student Life is currently accepting donations for the Adopt a Child for the Holidays program, giving VSU and other community members a chance to help those in our community who might otherwise fall through the cracks during the holiday season.

The Office of Student Life is asking local businesses, agencies, churches, and organizations to assist local children and adolescents who cannot afford to have holiday gifts this year. The process of adopting a family has become even easier. All that has to be done is make a phone call to Assistant Director of Student Life John Wright at 229-333-5674 or email him at jowright@valdosta.edu and tell him how many children, adolescents, or families you would like to adopt. A “wish list” will then be provided. For adequate time to deliver the gifts, a deadline of December 14 has been set.

This program which is strictly voluntary has existed in Lowndes County for several years. Last year the VSU related effort aided in the adoption of over 130 individuals for the holidays, this year Student Life is hoping to assist 100 children and adolescents and hopefully outdo last year’s performance.

The holidays are about giving and what better way to help than by adopting a family. Contact John Wright at 229-333-5674 or at jowright@valdosta.edu to volunteer or for more information.
