VSU Library to celebrate milestone

With Valdosta State University jumping off its centennial celebration in August of this year, the Odum library at VSU has also reached a milestone. On November 28, from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. the library will celebrate the 50th anniversary of government documents at VSU.

The celebration will include a series of recognitions and remarks by representatives from the Government Printing Office (GPO), which is a government agency and operates the Federal Depository Program. Congressman Jack Kingston is scheduled to attend and make a presentation to the library. The keynote speaker for this event will be Director of VSU’s Master of Library Science Program Dr. Wallace Koehler. A reception will follow the ceremony.

Fifty years ago the Odum Library was designated a Federal Depository Library by Iris Blitch, a congresswoman at the time. As a depository library, Odum receives government publications from the federal government free of charge. In exchange the library makes all the documents available to members of the public who wish to use them.

The public is invited to attend and help the library celebrate this occasion. For more information contact Kenneth Smith at 229-245-3748.
