Student Affairs sponsors VSU Relay for Life team

Valdosta State University's Office of Student Affairs is sponsoring a team for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event scheduled for May 5-6, 2006, with a goal of raising $5,000 or more for the cause. The annual walkathon fundraiser has been successful for years in Valdosta as teams decorate themed-tents to eat and rest in between walking shifts, while enjoying the overnight entertainment provided by the Relay for Life staff.

The VSU team is currently made up of Student Affairs staff members and a few students; however, anyone can join the team by raising a minimum of $100 in donations. All participants receive a T-shirt and are eligible to participate in the overnight event in early May.

Others can also participate in the cause by attending the First Annual Campus-wide Kickball Tournament on April 8. This double elimination tournament will begin at 10 a.m., with check-in at 9 a.m. Entry fees apply, and all proceeds go to the VSU Relay for Life team. Campus organizations can choose to hold their own fundraisers, similar to the kickball tournament. Greek Life at VSU donated the entire amount from a recent fundraiser$2,700to the VSU team. For more information about the upcoming kickball tournament or other fundraising efforts for the team, please call Kassie Kissinger or Brian Roberts at 333-5674.
