Ruffin Reading Bowl coming back to VSU

The James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education at Valdosta State University will host the Southern Regional Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl on Saturday, March 11, 2006, from 9:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m., in the Education Center.

Attending this year's event will be over 240 students from eight elementary schools, 10 middle schools, and six high schools from across South Georgia. These students will compete for an opportunity to take part in the state competition which will be held on April 22, 2006 at the University of Georgia.

The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl, designed for students in grades four through 12, was created by Helen Ruffin, a library media specialist at Sky Haven Elementary School in DeKalb County, Georgia. Her vision was to have student teams from different schools compete to test their knowledge of selected books.
