VSU College Bowl Team takes Carper Cup

Valdosta State University's College Bowl Team topped its second place finish at last year's Association of College Unions International Region 6 College Bowl Tournament by bringing home the first place prize, the Carper Cup, from the competition that was held at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, on February 25, 2006. The VSU team beat out the University of Florida (second), University of Georgia (third), and Florida State University (fourth).

The win is VSU's first regional college bowl championship. The four-member team included Mikey Alday, a senior in nursing; Mitch Alday, a senior in English; David Dickey, a senior in history; and Josh Higginbotham, a junior in communications arts. The trivia champions will compete against 15 other teams at the College Bowl National Championship Tournament, April 21-23, at the University of Hartford in Hartford, Conn.

"Just going to the national championship is an honor and privilege," said Mitch Alday. "If we win, I haven't developed the language to describe what that would feel like.
