VSU Prepares for Homecoming 2005

Valdosta State University will celebrate its annual Homecoming beginning Thursday, October 6 and will continue through the night on Saturday, October 8. This year's Homecoming is packed with events for students, alumni and the entire Valdosta community.

Celebrations will kick off Thursday, October 6 with a pep rally to support the VSU Blazers and fire them up for the big football game against the Henderson State Reddies. The pep rally will be held in the old gym from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Alumni Golf Tournament will be held Friday, October 7 at the Valdosta Country Club. Registration and lunch will begin at 11 a.m. and tee off at 11:45 a.m. sharp. Registration fee is $50/person and includes green fees, cart prizes and lunch. Competitors may sign up individually or as teams of four. Sign up and pay in advance to be a part of this great tournament.

Patterson Street will be filled for the annual Homecoming parade at 6 p.m. The parade can be seen from anywhere along Patterson Street, beginning at Woodrow Wilson Drive, passing the beautiful VSU front lawn, and ending at Brookwood Place.

The Alumni Association's Annual Dinner will be held at the Valdosta Country Club Ballroom at 7:30 p.m. The annual meeting of the VSU Alumni Association will kickoff the evening with the election of new officers and directors. The highlight of the evening's festivities will be the presentation of the 2005 Distinguished Alumnus Award with dinner to follow. Cost is $20/person and reservations are required.

Saturday, October 8 offers a full day of fun beginning early with the 5-K road race/walk at the Student Recreation Center. Registration starts at 7:15 a.m., and the cost is $8/person by October 4 and $10/person thereafter.

The Alumni Association Board Members will meet for brunch at 9:30 a.m., at the American Legion Post 13. All board members are urged to attend for the opportunity to catch up with one another and with Alumni Association news and plans. The brunch is free to all elected board members and one accompanied guest. Post 13 is located on Williams Street across from the stadium and reservations are required.

The VSU Blazers will face the Henderson State Reddies at the Bazemore-Hyder Stadium at 1 p.m. VSU Theatre will present Nevermore later that evening at the Sawyer Theatre, Fine Arts Building. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $8/adult $7/senior $6/child or non-VSU student and $5 for groups of 10 or more.

VSU Minority Alumni will continue the celebration through the night with their annual Homecoming "Soul Mixer" at the Woman's Building beginning at 9 p.m. The attire is Cosmopolitan and all fellow alumni are invited. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
